Ditto for me.

I generally try and watch my writing so I can get my points across properly, but also so others don't think I'm dumb because I accidentally spelt 'Batman' with a six at 2am in the morning. XD

I type this way out of habit, so it's not really a choice. I just find it difficult to type any other way. And I don't think I even have a proper understanding of grammar, but I do try to type with the appropriate punctuation.

I always try to use proper grammer. Even on youtube and MSN. I'm no native English speaker, so I don't know all the rules, but at least I try my very best.

If I'm posting on a forum or e-mailing, I try and use proper grammer and avoid abbreviations like the plague. If I'm IM'ing or texting then I use the standard abbreviations simply for speed.

I very rarely fall back on abbreviations or acronyms, but I'll certainly, on a message-board anyway, type closer to the actual rhythm of my speech, and include its various idiosyncrasies.

As an editor for an amateur high school magazine, I see a TON of letters from readers around my school. It's not just internet users; it's just people in general who don't know how to freaking spell or construct a coherent sentence. For example, a girl in my class once yelled this across the room at my teacher, who I will just refer to as Bob (not his real name):

"BOB! WHAT RELIGIOUS IS YOU???"

I love using proper grammar and spelling. Sometimes I type incorrectly to be ironic and entertain myself, but usually I try and be clear and consistent with my grammar.

The only place I don't use proper grammar is in text messages. I'm pretty slow at texting and it annoys my friends which gives me endless joy.

While sloppy writing does not invariably mean sloppy thinking, we've generally found the correlation to be strong -- and we have no use for sloppy thinkers. If you can't yet write competently, learn to.
That explains my feelings on the subject quite well. If you can't be asked to try to sound intelligent, then I can't be asked to read it.
This is pretty much my thoughts as well. When people 'type lyk dis lol' I can't help but stereotype them as uneducated.
Generally I don't go all out "proper essay grammar", but no matter where I am writing (in game when I'm being swarmed by whatever enemy that we're fighting, or in texting, or on msn) I try to form coherent sentences and avoid acronyms. :)

If internet and proper grammar come in contact, the world will be destroyed, or so it seems as everyone is trying to avoid it...

Yeah this. ill type like this with people i know on msn bc msn is like talking

But this forum is more of an ongoing conversation. Speed is not important when posting in threads, so I try to take my time. I don't go all out, though. I treat forums more as talking, rather than writing.

I try to use proper grammar and spelling in games, too, just to stand out and because before I did, I always seemed to find that the ones that did use proper spelling/grammar seemed more intelligent.

I make an effort to use proper grammar no matter how I'm communicating. That doesn't mean I'm going to diligently edit my posts mind you; instead, it simply means I will attempt to do it properly the first time around. I make plenty of mistakes of course, but I at least I know that, if I am misunderstood, it is probably because I failed to clearly convey my ideas.

In games and in texts, I don't mind when people leverage the various methods for abbreviating language. Often such things are written by someone in a hurry or with a strict character limit. It does irritate me (just a little bit) when someone does the same thing in an e-mail or on a forum where you have all the time in the world to spell out a word. The reason it irritates me is simple enough: it tells me that the writer didn't care enough to take the time to write their message properly. It irritates be because such actions are an insult (however minor) to anyone who participated in the conversation up to that point.

Pretty much anytime I'm typing, I use proper spelling and grammar. The only exceptions are smileys and jargon.

I use proper grammar all the time, unless I write reports for Law Enforcement (writing in all caps), typing when I am really tired, or just if I am feeling really lazy.

Yes, actually, it does.
