Notice how Square Enix have to build the game from the ground up on the 360 to get it to work with the engine.
Actually, we don't know how much of the engine has to be rebuilt. Even if it had to be rebuilt from the ground up, what we do know is that a 99% of game development these days is things unrelated to engine code: art assets, writing, audio, scripting, all that sort of stuff. Things that are portable right away.

They'd need to invest more man-hours into porting it, why on earth would they bother?
It really depends on whether Sega sees any customers on other platforms. Considering it tanked on the PS3, we might be looking at a one-off.

Most underrated game of 2008.
It's not exactly underrated. Underrated implies that people say it's not very good but it is. Whereas everyone who's actually played Valkyria Chronicles says it's really good, but since Sega decided that they didn't want to sell more than six copies they didn't bother advertising it (seriously, the only decent ad copy I saw for it, a mockup of the famous Kitchener poster with Alicia instead, appeared some months after release).

Still, there's an anime series now, which is reasonably good and might attract a few new people to the party (it need moar Marina though).

This is a game that is pretty much a cult classic from the get go outside of japan. They'd need to invest more man-hours into porting it, why on earth would they bother?
You mean apart from the 28 million potential customers?

Your right there is no good buisness reason to port the game to the Xbox.

With your logic why on earth would any one bother creating any games for any console?

It tanked on the Ps3 outside of Japan. Inside, it sold gangbusters - hence why they're making an anime series. Most of Segas truly great work seems to never reach the west anymore, and I think thats a real shame. Besides, lagging sales has never stopped Sega from making sequels before - see Shenmue.

Yeah, 28 million people whose primary defining characteristic is screaming "****** fag" online are gonna love the subtle humanities of the characters, the moving scale and nature of the story and the beautiful look of all of it. The greatest concentration of sexually frustrated housewives are in Utah, I should try selling vibrators there.
Spoken like a true fanboy.

Not everyone one who owns an xbox is a dick, true there is a lot, but there are plenty of people like me and most of the people I know who are looking forward to this game. The fact there are very few games like this on the xbox means that there is a nice little nieche that can be filled, I mean Lost Odyssey sold 670,000 out side of Japan.

It didn't actually do that well. It kind of bumbled around the middle of the weekly charts on release then dropped like a stone. It picked up a few more on budget release. SRPGs are a niche genre in Japan as well as out of it.

But then, commercial success doesn't necessarily affect the decision to plunder the IP for an anime series. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni was a relatively obscure amateur made visual novel, and that still got a well recieved anime series, manga, and live action movie.

The anime is actually quite well done, keeping the same visual style that the game takes. I am enjoying it quite a bit. I played the demo of the game and didn't really feel it grabbing me enough to buy it.

I just started playing it yesterday. The pace is a bit slow, but it doesn't seem like a bad game so far.

Yes, yes, yes, it's one of the few games I'd say you should get if you have a PS3. I have no idea why it was an exclusive.
The graphics engine was designed around the Ps3, it wouldn't work on the 360.
I meant PC.

The japanese really know how to sell you on a game don't they?

Clearly lots of people have heard of it because I've seen an awful lot of topics about it and how "obscure" it is.
I don't like it because it's turn-based. But I like it even less because it's turn-based, but it's a third person shooter. So it's like extra-bad. It's so close to being a real-time game but instead it's a tedious turn-based game. It's like if you had to take turns in Gears of War.
