This makes me appreciate how smart Valve is. They didn't stubbornly stick with a one-off idea, they changed it to one of my favourite video games ever.
Oh, c'mon! That's never going to happen!Kwatsu said:Fairy mod for Left 4 Dead approaching in three... two...
That actually sounds fairly interesting (or should I say fairyly interesting... LOL! get it? Because there were supposed to be fai... okay, sorry).Tom Goldman said:the title's gameplay as one that included spell casting "based on movement and mouse gestures."
And we have a winner.Kraiiit said:Valve Time and April Fools make for some interesting headlines.
Doesn't every study, opinion piece, and essay come to the conclusion that girls don't want "girly" games, they just want games where women aren't vapid strippers?Johnnyallstar said:And people wonder why there's no "girly games." They start making a game about fairies and and pixies and all the wonderfully glittery things, and then cut that to make a very violent zombie game.
I guess they wanted to make money instead of a game for girly girls.
I think Valve have been systematically trying to retcon the history of Left 4 Dead and make it sound like they came up with it. They did it in the game's audio commentary too. I don't know why they would lie about something like that; maybe they're embarrassed that they haven't really come up with an original IP of their own since Half-Life. Knowing that their one attempt was an RPG about fairies, I guess I can't say I blame them.Ne1butme said:I find this story very strange. L4D was developed by Turtle Rock Software. Valve bought Turtle Rock about 7 months before L4D was released. So Valve (proper) was working on a fairy game then decided to buy Turtle Rock so they could continue to make L4D? Or was the fairy game started at Turtle Rock and then canceled for development of L4D, at which point Valve decided to buy them.
