Valve Details Steam Features for Portal 2 on PS3

So I read the knowledge base article and it specifically says that PS3 saves are not compatible with Mac or Windows. Does this mean that I can play on PC and go to PS3 but then I'm stuck on my PS3? Thats kind of a bummer, I was hoping for full two-way transitions of saves.

If you progress to a certain point on ps3 you upload your save to steam cloud and can continue on your pc

I'd love to know where you got your information from because this quote from the knowledge base article seems to contradict it:
"Note:
Game saves and progress from a PlayStation®3 are incompatible with other platforms (i.e. Windows or Mac). Steam Cloud data from a PlayStation®3 can only be used with another PlayStation®3 logged in to the same PSN ID."

I really wish you were right but it doesn't appear so.

Well, that settles it, I'll be getting Portal 2 for PS3 just so I can get Steamworks and the extra game I could give to my friend for some Co-op shenanigans (unless the code is restricted to your account, but whatever).

Or I can just buy it on the PC to start with, and get added benefits like saving $15 ($10 cheaper to start, plus an extra $5 off for pre-purchasing), a free copy of Portal 1 (another pre-purcahse bonus), the ability to use a mouse and keyboard instead of a Dualshock 3, not being tied to PSN while I play, very low risk of being sued by Valve because I did something they didn't like, and not being told I have no self respect by Gabe Newell because I use a competitor's product as well.

Valve, I love you guys, but you could add a real-life working Portal gun to the PS3 version, and I'd still just buy the game for PC. Fuck Sony.

Or you could get two Portal 2s for half the price, implement Steamworks, and just don't to anything suspicious on your console to avoid lawsuits? And if you're desperate, you could plug in a mouse+keyboard to your PS3.

Both are fine decisions, just sayin' really.

I don't have a PS3, but I might get the PS3 version... If I'm not misunderstanding, I can buy it, redeem my PC version, then sell the PS3 version to someone at like half price and make a profit.

Is it just me, or does this sound fairly useless? I mean, considering when you buy one copy, you'll probably be playing it only on that platform. Along with the fact of cross-platform play, there's a reason that hasn't been done, simply because in an FPS, a keyboard user will have more control.

Oh well. Lets hope I can actually see the screen properly in split screen on Standard Definition...

So it's kinda like I got the PC version for $35. I also have a PS3, if for some reason I want to play the game and not enjoy it.

No prob. I usually buy most of my games via Steam, but when it comes to games for consoles, Amazon usually has some pretty kick ass deals. Plus with preorders they do release-day-delivery for free, so you can't go wrong.

I'm starting to get more use out of my PS3. I got Mortal Kombat on it because of Kratos and next I'll be buying this for it as well. Also the free online play doesn't hurt. Xbox needs to step it's game up.

Well, I guess Sony proved Gabe wrong.

It's pretty impressive (assuming it all works) that Sony are willing to work with Valve to that level. I can't see Microsoft allowing cross platform content anytime soon.

Microsoft tried that years ago with Shadowrun and they quickly discovered that a mediocre player with a mouse and keyboard could run circles around an elite player with a joystick.

I wish I had gotten a PS3 instead of an 360, even if I would have waited until 2009 for the PS3 to go down to $300. Weird how it all ends up, with Live requiring payments and Infamous (2), LittleBigPlanet, God of War 3, and the Team Ico remake pair sticking to the PS3 like beautiful women onto a pimp.

Hells. Yes. Most of my gaming is on my PS3 these days, but I do get some decent use out of Steam too. This kind of cross-polinating is EXACTLY what the industry needs, breaking free of the existing stagnation of hyper-limiting what system of choice you have the option of utilizing. This opens up worlds of options, and I hope it succeeds dramatically. And I'm not just saying that because it would rub salt in Microsoft's wounds. Honest.
