It is done! The group is made, and it actually FIT! :D

I'm not going to actually moderate it much. It's just meant as a joke. Still, guys, join it if you agree.

I looked at the group and it is a good idea I support except for the fact that the person who runs it cannot spell well at all:
"oppinion" "soppose" and many more...

Both sides make a good point. It is a little disappointing to see that nothing new will be coming out for L4D1. On the other hand, Valve is a business, not your best friend - they're not going to offer free DLC or a cheap expansion when they can get full price for a new (retooled) game. Their goal is to make money, and with L4D being the cash cow that it is, it's not really surprising that they plan to milk it for all they can.

I like that there are two opposing Steam Communities now, if for no other reason that that it's fostering intelligent discussion about the responsibilities of corporations to their fan bases.

Personally, I think it would be hilarious if Valve came out and said,

"We have seen and understand the L4D2 boycott group. In the interest of assisting them, L4D2 will not activate for any Steam ID that has joined this group while it is in existance. So there is no worry that any will succumb to temptation. Stay strong!"

And then watch how fast the group dwindles.

Hilarious, but a total dick move too.. which probably explains why I do not run a successful videogame firm.
I'm not sure how not letting people play a game that they didn't want to buy really hurts them... but I suppose it would be funny?

Also I'm definitely joining this L4D2 'support' group, as I am also looking forward to the game. I don't see that these groups are in opposition as one group is saying, "valve lied to us we dont want to give them more money (though its probably a great game)" and the other is like "Valve makes great games so we support L4D2! (its probably a great game!)". In my crazy world I would almost argue they are both saying the same thing, L4D2 will be great... just one group is holding valve to their promises and the other is like... meh we're buddies just don't let it slip again.

Valve are big boys, they don't need a support group, and there not your Buddies, there a business they want your money.

I agree wholeheartedly. But apparently the support group feels this way if they need to make a support group :S

Then why join the group?, I can't make this clear enough ITS JUST A GAME!, thats it. it is irrelevant entertainment that has no impact on anyones life. They will make there money, they don't need a bunch of idiots creating a "support group" to make them feel better about there overwhelming success and financial reward. They are probably laughing at all of this anyways.

Should I make a "I'm a bit weirded out by Valve's move, think it's a bit unlike them, and worried things may go wrong, but will still keep faith in them and buy the game anyways since it will be as good if not better than the original Left 4 Dead" group? Cause that's what I feel.

IABWOBVMTIABUTAWTMGWBWSKFITABTGASIWBAGINBTTOL4D probably wouldn't fit in the "group name here" part, though...
How about the, "I don't care, I'm going to buy it anyway" group?
Anyone want to join IDCIGTBIA?

Oh yes like that'll actually do anything. People who like L4D2 won't join a stupid support group for it, they'll just buy it when it comes out.
*Applause*
I laughed when I saw that people were afraid that Mr. Newell's feelings may have been hurt. If you really want to show Gabe that you care, listen to NoMoreSanity: buy their games. Your wallet speaks much louder than your forum posts.

This. I think most reasonable people who arn't flaming valve or flaming the people flaming valve feel this way. The move is questionable, it isn't entirely fair to the fan base, and I think it would have been better as a paid expansion pack, but Valve has a lot of goodwill on there side, and any criticism you could come up with is a criticism of there marketing strategy, not there game design skills. Basically, Id like to say, "Valve, you have my blessing, but you better dazzle me".

Oh who am I kidding, Id buy anything Valve made.
