I'd say Half life is the best project valve is done, the rest is ideas from the community. Nothing wrong with that tho.
*snerk*.... BWAHAHAHA... I assure you, my friend, I am no fanboy, I don't even own a Valve game, but I am doing however is defending the rights of every artist, writer, what have you that depends on creativity, too work on whatever they want.Akalabeth said:I'll whine if I want. I'm a paying customer, and so far I've paid for an INCOMPLETE game.Rainboq said:Valve is allowed to do what they want, trying too say other wise will do nothing, now quit your whining
Quit defending them you fanboy.
Overrated? That's like saying Monty Python makes silly jokes. I think Portal 2 is going to be overrated! Best game ever. Pfff... Looks like someone has a bit much confidence.supertoast099 said:Portal 1 was good, but overrated. I hope this is better.

Nothing, since hyperbole in video-game development is as common as 9/10 scores.Tom Goldman said:So, what does it mean when Valve says that Portal 2 is going to be its best product ever?
Wow, what a profound mistake in judgement. Portal 1 worked because a single developer (I think it was a woman, I'm not sure) or at most a small team had a brilliant idea and ran with it, development should try to refrain from making evrybody happy and intead focus on single ideas from talented developers that are taken to the max. No huge, democratic design teams, games are best when they are the brain child of a single person.Tom Goldman said:"We got the signals that we wanted -- this is what people liked; this is what people didn't like. And to us, it was like, 'OK now we know how to take this big,' so that's what we're going to do with Portal 2."

Call of duty uses even an older game engine. It doesn't matter how old is your engine for graphics.
Ow and one more thing gameplay matter not some stupid graphics
If that was from anyone but Valve I'd say its bragadouscious, but they can brag their testiculars off and still be in their own creation range.Valve: Portal 2 is Our Best Game Ever
Akalabeth said:Half life 2 is all about taking notice.. You are not fed information here, you need to uncover it yourself. It puts you in the middle of a situation and you slowly figure out whats going on by observing your surroundings, human interaction, listening to radio transmissions and not to mention Dr. Breenes speeches on the various tv-screens. If you pay attention you will learn that there is alot going on (this universe is huge) and it should definately be enough to motivate you to fire your gun.phimax100 said:Introduced to the backstory?
A guy says "haven't seen you since Black Mesa". That doesn't tell me the story, it tells me his relationship to me. The other guy, human ambassador, so he used to work with me, still doesn't tell me the story. Just tells me that I know him.
Combine are not humans? Prove it? The only intelligent aliens in HL2 are in the resistance. The zap guys. As far as I am can see, playing Gordon Freeman, everyone I fight looks human so where are the aliens? (again, aside from the Crabs).
Fact is I don't know the backstory. Yeah, there is some stuff around from black mesa, and some people are shooting at me for no apparent reason, but that's not cause enough for me to lead some crusade. If I as a character am going to go kill hundreds of guys I would like to at least know EXACTLY what the hell has happened. I never do.
Anyway I've had this argument before. And it was boring an unproductive so I'm going to have it again.
If you ever were interested though you would have read up on the backstory. But since you havent, your argumenting falls through and is based on something you know little about. I understand you are talking about half life 2 here, but I was in the same boat a you. Played 2 before 1 and I found sooo much delight in half life 2, both story and gameplay wise without ever knowing what happened in the first game. It helps to be a bit patient though, gotta admit that.
I recommend having a read here: http://members.shaw.ca/halflifestory/timeline.htm
Great overview of what half life is story wise.
i dont own a ps3, but this'd still be cool. Games like this shouldnt be any sort of build specific.JaymesFogarty said:I hope this is coming out on PS3. Although Valve have stated that they hate the PS3, so that probably won't happen.
