Can you imagine how awesome Meet the Team would have been had they all been TV spots? Sadly, the Spy one probably would have been too long, but the others would have been perfect.

Why would a game need to go through an Ad Agency to begin with?
I think the real question is Why would Portal 2 need to get an ad to begin with? Period.
I think it'll sell more copies than MW2, just for being Portal 2. And if it doesn't I'm going to make sure it does by buying it for every consol for every friend I have. I suggest you do the same.. :p

Valve's "Meet the ____" are by far better than any trailer that existed and far more memorable than anything else out there.
I'm sure they'll do just fine.

I'm glad someone who actually matters thinks ad agencies are stagnant and useless. Advertising from these idiots is mind-numbing and insulting. Valve, however, is creative and genuinely interested in seeing the product succeed.

Portal 2 advertises itself.

Anyone who played Portal (which is almost anyone with a steam account) knows to look out for the sequel

What Valve has is perfect grassroots advertising. Love how they did ads for their past few games.

IT'S SCIENTIFIC.

IT'S CHALLENGING.

IT'S EVERYTHING YOU LOVE IN A GAME.

AND YOUR MOM IS GONNA HATE IT.

Portal 2 in stores now.

This is what I love about Valve. They see the cookie-cutter ad industry, and instead of trying to manage with what's offered, they just say "Screw it, your ideas suck, we're going to do it ourselves."

While this line of thinking may not be profitable to ad agencies, I don't exactly think they're struggling, what with AAA shooters gumming up the release schedule. After watching the "Meet the Team" videos over and over, and hearing that if anybody would be making a Half Life movie, it would be Valve, I am more than excited to see what their department comes up with for even a short TV ad.

Valve, already on the upswing from PC-console games such as The Orange Box and Left 4 Dead, seems to be the company to watch for the next several years. What with their almost mad-scientist level of brilliance in the creation of Steam, to their capitalizing on opportunities like a sequel to Portal, I can't wait to see what they'll do next.

I've always loved the way Valve thinks ... and so it continues! Its a shame all the other large game companies out there are beyond help in the stupidity department.

Ahhh! I just saw the tv spot! If this is the authentic TV spot, but I see no reason to believe it isn't...

I hope I embedded it right. If I didn't: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_bVnFpAmNE

Good luck, Valve! Not that you'd be needing any to market Portal 2 to me--it's pretty much a done deal.

Ad agencies aren't worthless. Only worthless ad agencies are worthless. Of course, because you can't pinpoint how many costumers will learn about/buy your prodcut because of a specific ad, they can bullshit you all the way to the bank.

If there's a dev that can do it it's Valve. I look forward to see it. Will certainly beat any of EA's campaigns in recent memory.

Now I'm half hoping for Portal 2 to be a flop. Just to make him eat his words. It probably won't happen, but I can have dreams, right?

I hate statements like this, the "Look at us! We're so indy, we're too good for your mainstream methods because we're so different it hurts!".
