Whatever, just wash your hands.
I get that. You can get anything on it.

But it's still a response that outstrips the Epic store and it's buying up timed exclusives. Because you're either giving money to steam by buying the games from Steam, or buying the system itself.
I doubt Valve is making much from Deck sales. I don't think they are losing money, but I think its rather close to breaking even.

Yeah, at the price points the steam-deck is hitting I don't think it's hugely profitable.

Is the steam deck available now?
It's shipping in 2 weeks for the people who pre-ordered, and review outlets already got their review samples this week. It will officially go on sale on 2/25 for the people who did not get a pre-order in during the reservation window.

What principle is that?
It's a loose one, kinda based on side-scrolling Metroidvanias, or just Metroids in this case I suppose, have never cost the same as a big AAA release, yet Nintendo are characteristically charging that amount just because they can. Either way you slice it, the resources required for development are far less. While not everything can be as good a deal as something like Hollow Knight, I'd be willing to go up to £30 on a new side-scrolly Metroidvania release but no more.

Time was they *were* big AAA releases.
Indeed. Along with Shovel Knight and many others too. Though I'd imagine the developers of Shovel Knight would have an extremely uphill battle trying to sell their games for £50 with only that for a justification.

I don't see myself getting this console, but I wouldn't mind grabbing one in a later future. At least I can use it to play the smaller 2D games on a nice portable console and device. I do have my switch, but I rarely ever use the portable mode. It almost always stays in the little deck holder. I've only used its portability about 3 or 4 times a play some games the only other time I used it in portable mode, was just when looking on eShop. While either watching TV or playing on my PS4.

Fyi, you can now check how much of your Steam library has confirmed compatibility (for now)
This, by far, is the thing that makes me most enraged about the Deck.

Why in the world isn't this implemented natively in the Steam Client? Why do I have to have another website of all things going through my purchases and purchasing ability?!

I had my origin account back in the day stolen by what I think were Russian Hackers, so I'm not that apt to put my password all over the place.

I agree. The thing launches in a week and there is no quick and easy way to check whether a game you're interested in buying will even run on it

There no doubt will be, probably pretty soon, cuz Valve is not Epic and they're usually pretty good with this sort of stuff.

Makes the lack of such a basic functionality seem an even uglier blemish tho.

I am seeing little steam deck "Verified" messages on the store pages for some games like Half Life 2 and Hollow Knight. You have to scroll down and its just under the languages box on the right side of the page.

Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, BotW 2, and Splatoon 3 are coming to the Switch this year.
I don't see how the Steam Deck can compete against that.
