Is anyone else kinda disappointed that there isn't some gameplay focused award. The closest to it seems to be is "Best (insert genre or platform here) game of the year." I dunno. Why aren't level designs, or power ups, or mechanics touched upon?
That stuff is for indie games and Nintendo.

This is NEXT GEN. Needs to focus on awesome stuff like hair physics and lighting dynamics.

Aha! Cute snark.

Totally just for them, you're right. Those titles like Bioshock Infinite and Last of Us that "just try to be movies" aren't GAMES. NO!

Because whats important is mechanics and only mechanics... and faux innovation... and platforming... right.

My own snarkiness aside for a moment, I wouldn't take anything seriously from a show that spent half its time mocking it's audience.

It was cringeworthy. I suggest anyone who hasn't watched them to just be directed to the abridged version (and even that was painful to watch.)

I think the highlight of that show was No Man's Sky(?) and Reggie's near breakdown over Dewritos King prodding for more leaks on unannounced game developments.

Also, why the hell would you have best "casual" game category? What does that even mean? Any game can be casual. I thought casual was the term for people whose videogame times take up moderate to very little increments of their daily lives?

I didn't mean to insinuate that story focused games shouldn't be awarded for their efforts, I just would have liked to have seen some awards that highlight some aspects that make video games unique from other forms of entertainment.

How on Earth did Gone Home win so many awards? It's an overpriced soap opera that makes you search around a house to figure out the story. Ugh.. Oh well, my choices would have been:

GOTY: Farcry 3 (I didn't play it last year) -out of games that actually came out this year I would say it's a tie between Saints Row 4 and Bioshock Infinite.

Studio of the Year: I don't really care.

Best Shooter: Bioshock Infinite

Best Action Adventure: Diablo 3 (on console)

Best Sports Game: NHL 14 since I don't really care about the other sports (I've only played the game twice though).

Best Indie Game: Space Engineers (ya it's not finished and it's very buggy but I enjoy it a lot) and The Stanley Parable.

Best RPG: Didn't play any this year.

Best Fighting Game: I never play games in this genre.

Best Driving Game: Forza Motorsport 5.

Best DLC: Assault on Dragon Keep -Blood Dragon is not DLC and even if it was I still wouldn't pick it.

Best 360 Game: Bioshock Infinite or Saints Row 4.

Best PS3 Game: Bioshock Infinite or Saints Row 4 (I've never understood why these are any different than the GOTY nomanies).

Best Nintendo Game: Wind Waker HD (I haven't even played it but the original Wind Waker is one of my top 5 games of all time so this wins by default).

Best PC Game: Bioshock Infinite or Saints Row 4.

Best Handheld Game: I've never been a fan of Handheld Games.

Best Casual: I don't think I played any games that you'd call casual.

Best Voice Actor: Troy Baker as Joel.

Best Voice Actress: Courtnee Draper as Elizabeth.

Best Soundtrack: Saints Row 4.

Best Song in a Game: Will the Circle be Unbroken.

Most Anticipated Game: The Witcher 3.

Character of the Year: Elizabeth Bioshock Infinite.

Best Mobile Game: Don't care.
Gone Home won because it was a great game. I think people are too caught up over the cost. If Gone Home had cost 5 bucks, people would have been saying it was one of the best games in the last 5 years.

I have all three on Steam. The Stanley Parable was very good, but I forgot about it a couple hours after playing it.

Papers Please I enjoyed ALOT. One of my favorite era's in hostory was the Cold War and this game I thought captured it perfecty. If it would have won, I'd be happy. Gone Home was my favorite though. That game stayed on my mind for like 2 weeks after I beat it. It struck an emotional resonance with me that the other 2 just did not.

Maybe because I was a teen in the mid 90's so I got hit hard with nostalgia bombs playing Gone Home.
