Marvellous! I found this. I was going to create a new VG cover band thread, but if Isaac Dodgson doesn´t mind (please let me know, if you do), I´m going to use this. So, as a gamer and a heavy user of music, it´s inevitable that I would greatly enjoy VG music covers (be it jazz, metal or even symphonic), and I really do. While I´m aware that remixes and covers don´t hit everybody´s sweet spot, I respect fellow human beings who enjoy game music and have enough musical talent to recreate some of the most memorable and almost iconic tunes. To me remixing/covering VG music is an integral part of gaming culture. To offer something to the OP and posters, here are some of my current favorites
Minibosses - Metroid
The Advantage - Gradius 2 / Solar Jetman (Live)
Doom 2 Remix - Map 23 - No Smoking Area
and
Final Fantasy VII One Winged Angel (Eminence Symphony)
There are many more great remixes/cover bands, and I intend to broaden my horizon even more, with your help preferably. So, I´m going to continue indulging myself in this relatively unknown genre and let you know about my findings, should you be interested. You are of course most welcomed to share your favorites with us (It would be even better if you yourself have covered VG music and would like to let us hear it).
Also, most bands I know cover mainly old-school VG music, ranging from amiga to snes. If you are familiar with more recent remixes/covers, I would gladly check them out. Secondly, I´m already quite aware of the existence of
ocremix.org (well it would have popped out eventually.)
