I brought FFXIII today and it seems to be okay so far. Before I purchased I saw the trailer for it with "My Hands" By Leona Lewis on it and it made the trailer perfect, it was gripping and I'm not even embarrassed to say that it gave me goosebumps at some points as it was so epically put together with the song.

So my question to everyone out there is what is your view on this masterpiece and what is your favourite main song tie in to a game?

(I'm well aware that there is probably a few topics with the same question out there but meh)

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker had by far the best soundtrack I've ever heard in a game.

Listen to "Dragon Roost Island" and tell me that that isn't epic.

Well I can't say I care much for Leona Lewis... At all, so I won't comment there.

My favourite soundtrack... You know (disregarding music rhythm games) I think that Final Fantasy VII may have had one of my favourite OSTs ever. The game was quite overrated IMO, but I really think that they nailed the musical score. Maybe it's nostalgia talking though.

Best Soundtrack?
Well that's tricky.

The ambient electronica tracks of Mass Effect 1 and 2 were gripping, and yet haunting. The brass pieces of Oblivion were triumphant and epic...but the best, for me, are the awesome orchestral pieces from the Baldur's Gate series. From the light 'town and forest' tracks, to the pounding 'battle' tracks, the music absolutely, hands down helped make Baldur's Gate the RPG epic it is.

Meh, Nobuo should've made the soundtrack.

Two words: Snake Eater.

It's like a bond intro, but with Snake instead, plus the awesome visuals it has for the video if you don't skip the video before the main menu.

As much as I don't like Leona Lewis, the song she did at the end of Avatar was very good.

OP: Okay, as for best soundtrack, I'd go for either Timesplitters or Ocarina Of Time. I can't find fault with a single song in their repertoire.

Agreed, the TimeSplitters soundtrack was awesome

I haven't heard much of the FFXIII OST, so it's hard to judge. I might check it out some time though, since I'm a big fan of soundtracks for both games and movies.

As for my favorite soundtrack, I'd go for anything Half-Life (by Kelly Bailey, I think) and the epic Dawn of War II soundtrack (grand orchestral goodness!)

That song made the trailer a piece of shit. No seriously, sticking the sound effects over the top killed the song and sticking the song under the sound effects made the trailer a half-finished mess.

OT: Zelda Wind Waker, or the latest Pokemon games at night have some beautiful music.

Oh same here, really I don't like her other stuff. This song just seemed to fit everything so perfectly.

Question first, song as in a song performed by a singer, or as in any sort of composition used in an OST of a game?
Either or there cio, it's open.

I've always thought the from F-Zero X for the N64 was A-wesome!

Also, pretty much every Zelda game has a stellar soundtrack. Ocarina springs to mind with the Gerudo Vally theme.

Ah, Red Alert. Good times.

OT: Chrono Trigger had some good stuff, on SNES and DS. Magus Confronted always reminds me of an epic boss fight. Which it is. =D

I hate Leona Lewis and I despise the fact that Square Enix let her come anywhere near one of their products. My favourite song from a game has to be To Zanarkand from Final Fantasy X.

Definitely, Metal Gear Solid as a series featured many memorable tunes. My favorite game for the soundtrack, (though MGS is awesome) would have to be Silent Hill. Not the game, but the whole series has featured so many brilliant songs, I couldn't name half of them.

This wins...so much.

Best. Battle music. EVER.[/QUOTE]

So many ways to trump you...with the same game's music. Seriously, Kingdom Hearts has the best soundtrack I've ever heard in a game. Well, except for FFX. The opening CGI cutscene was fecking awesome, and well, try listening to this without feeling slightly cheerful.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The first timpani hits, followed by the soft flute/violin/harp melody as the title come onscreen... Beautiful.
Right on the money you are. Loved that like nothing else...well, at least nothing by Bethesda.
But for me? Burnout Revenge. I played that game half the time just to listen to the music.

That isn't epic. For me, Wind Waker was third to last on my list of most-to-least favorite Zelda soundtracks, just beating The Minish Cap and the CD-i games. The top on my list is a tie between A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time.

As for best video game soundtrack tie in thing, I know this doesn't technically count, but Trent Reznors Quake theme is great.

Holy fuck I didn't realise how much I would miss the timesplitters music once I heard it again, thank you. Luckily I have a couple of songs stored somewhere in my ipod, Like a Robot baby!
