This wins...so much.

Best. Battle music. EVER.[/QUOTE]

So many ways to trump you...with the same game's music. Seriously, Kingdom Hearts has the best soundtrack I've ever heard in a game. Well, except for FFX. The opening CGI cutscene was fecking awesome, and well, try listening to this without feeling slightly cheerful.

Damnit you're right...But it my personal favorite of Kingdom hearts...not my all times favorite.

Two words: Snake Eater.

It's like a bond intro, but with Snake instead, plus the awesome visuals it has for the video if you don't skip the video before the main menu.
Definitely, Metal Gear Solid as a series featured many memorable tunes. My favorite game for the soundtrack, (though MGS is awesome) would have to be Silent Hill. Not the game, but the whole series has featured so many brilliant songs, I couldn't name half of them.
Oh, that is a good one!

Yeah, if I could name a series, it would be Metal Gear Solid and the Metroid Prime trilogy.

Mass Effect's album is one of the best collections of music in the world. The Presidum is one of the best ambient songs I've ever heard.

I couldn't ever play Metroid Prime. (Only ever had a 64, and PS consoles.) Sounds good though...
Another one would be Assassin'S Creed 2. And Uncharted 2.

There are too many OST and tie in songs that I love, but here is some of my favorites.

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker had by far the best soundtrack I've ever heard in a game.

Listen to "Dragon Roost Island" and tell me that that isn't epic.
That isn't epic. For me, Wind Waker was third to last on my list of most-to-least favorite Zelda soundtracks, just beating The Minish Cap and the CD-i games. The top on my list is a tie between A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time.
Wow. That has to be the most repeated answer i've ever heard. EVERYONE says those two games. Think outside the mainstream for a change. I chose WW because it did have an epic soundtrack to go along with the epic story. Best Zelda in the franchise IMHO.

The best video game OST I can think of is Shadow of the Colossus. Not only are the songs great, but they also work well together (i.e. if you listen to the whole soundtrack the individual tracks don't feel disjointed or out of place).
The OST for Dawn of War II isn't far behind (imo), and out of the more recent ones I have to applaud the composer of the soundtrack for Heavy Rain.

As much as I don't like Leona Lewis, the song she did at the end of Avatar was very good.

OP: Okay, as for best soundtrack, I'd go for either Timesplitters or Ocarina Of Time. I can't find fault with a single song in their repertoire.

As for best video game soundtrack tie in thing, I know this doesn't technically count, but Trent Reznors Quake theme is great.

I just downloaded TS2 and Future Perfect's Soundtrack. Me and My Zune have never been happier. And I think Future Perfect's Title theme is better than TS2

Listen to the Muramasa Soundtrack...Hell I'll post it

I'm pretty keen on the Modern warfare soundtracks. As I've said before, I keep getting the chase theme from MW2 stuck in my head. Also, some of the Halo 3 stuff is quite dramatic, I could easily spend hours just listening to the different pieces in the main menu.

Oh would you look at that, a thread where I can mention Okami! Yeah!

It doesn't really have a main them, but the soundtrack is 6 discs long, and this is the closest thing to a theme I can find.

And of course, the song that I cannot put behind spoiler for fear that some may not hear it:

Please, listen to that one in full, it's gorgeous.

I actually collect OSTs. Hell, I've even *performed* some of the music from games (in orchestra and solo).

I've never really been disappointed with any of the OSTs I've bought. But for some reason, one of my favorite soundtracks is from Shadow Hearts I (although Covenant also had good songs). It just has so much variety and eclecticism.

Total Annihilation. Sending your robot armies crashing against each other to orchestral music is second to none.

I only have the second game, but I can agree with you on the TimeSplitters soundtracks being damn good.

I felt Molgera's theme to be just pure awesome and the daytime sailing theme was great. Shame they didn't have a theme for nighttime, other than the cursed sea theme. DRC is probably the best area tune, but Molgera was the best battle theme.

As far as other OST's go, Kingdom Hearts really nailed it, with Hollow Bastion/Radiant Gardens battle theme being one of the most memorable of the game. Followed by 13th Struggle, even on the GBA's limited speakers.

And speaking of the GBA, Mother 3 had by far the best handheld OST in my mind.

I don't know if it would count as an OST, but years and years ago when i subscribed to OPM there was a video preview of Metal Slug X on the demo disc, i've never been able to find that music again since and the disc has been lost to the ages.
It was fucking awesome whatever it was though.

Honest to God, I believe the Phoenix Wright soundtracks are amazing. However, the Orchestra versions are, in a word, beautiful

My second favourite game sound track is Lost Odyssey, its done by the musician behind Final Fantasy so it was expected to be fantastic. It is!

Do you mean original songs for it or songs that were not made for the game, but are gre3at with it?

Halo wins with both for me either way to be honest, say what you want about gameplay, but you can't deny it has great music.

The Ocarina of Time Soundtrack is by far the best game soundtrack I have ever heard. The Temple of Time, Lost Woods, and the Windmill Hut honestly make me cry every time I hear them there so beautiful! Also, even though this isn't on a soundtrack, the Dark World overworld theme from A Link to the Past is my favorite Zelda song ever!
