Video Game Protagonists you hate

Master chief- he is generic, he sucks, and the fact that people call him a badass make me want to puke. He blows and there is nothing remotely interesting about him.

Sonic- please just crawl in a ditch somewhere and die. Nobody cares about you. Your personality is non existant, just like your brain. You have the I.Q of a coconut.

Starkiller (The force unleashed)- thank you starkiller for ruining my favorite francise as a child. Everyone remembers that humuliating NOOOOO scene from Darth Vader in Episode 3, you know that scene which is parodied millions of times on youtube? So Lucas Arts who only cares abou Money, Money, and more Money decided "Hey guys lets create a protagonist who is magicaly the most powerful force user that we thought up of in five minuites!" and thust the ugly, generic, cash cow, boring butt baby known as starkiller was born. Thank you starkiller for proving so long as you slap the "OFFICIAL CANNON" stick on anything it sells like crazy to your ravonous, story cannon defieing, poor writing proof fans!

Congradulations Starkiller you take the cake in the most pathetic game protagonist i ever played as, now go do us a favor and commit suicide, because you suck so much i would rather play as the above 2 protagonists over you anyday!

Nero from DMC 4. He handled well when you were playing as him thanks to the Devil Bringer, but he's gotta be one of the whiniest wussies in gaming. Half of his stuff about his girlfriend made me wanna puke.

Also hated him but only because he was not as fun to play as Dante and I felt he was just impeding from playing as Dante.
Also has anyone played Custom Robo for gamecube? because I cannot stand the ridiculously retarded generic nameless protagonist you use in that game, seriously I figured out the whole conspiracy plot at the beginning of the game and he does not figure it out until the end when somebody tells him, this kind of retarded character just plain pisses me off!

Nathan Drake, for how incredibly smug he can be at times.

All of Noble Team, minus the one with the skull on his helmet for being the least groan-inducing. I'd say Master Chief too but he's sort of benign, not really likable but nothing really hateable(?), he just sort of exists.

That unfortunate pair of whiny, psuedo-stoic Final Fantasy protagonists we had to deal with in the late '90s, at least Zidane broke the trend.

Hope, from FFXIII would've qualified, but some extremely delayed character development saved him from the condemnation.

Johnny Klebitz and Luis Lopez from the GTA4 Trinity occasionally just felt like abridged versions of Niko Bellic; the "killer with a code" which just sort of bothered me, but their own nuances eventually fleshed them out into more intriguing if not necessarily likable heroes.

The characters from Bulletstorm are setting up to be the latest addition to my personal version of this list.

seriously hes like the only one that has any kind of real character development. i mean lighting and snow have a complete personality 180 after hope says one silly line of dialouge and the same goes for fang who almost completely flies of the handle when everyone says lets do something different. its just silly

I can't believe it took 27 posts for somebody to say this! Especially considering people before it voted other Final Fantasy characters.
Seriously...Vanille. I caught myself cheering on the enemies in cutscenes where she was in danger. That's how ya know ya made a game wrong.

Lara Croft: A character who was made for nothing but sex appeal, which may have been okay when we had like NO female characters in games, but today that doesn't cut, it.

Tommy from Prey: Already been said, which makes sense. He's an idiot with no personality and a lame haircut, and whines about everything eventhough he thinks he's a badass. It's actually kinda funny, coming from the company thet designed one of the biggest badasses ever (What? I think Duke's awesome...)

Liu Kang: Midway, I know he's always been your established hero, but please: PRACTICALLY NOBODY LIKES HIM. He's a stereotypical action character with moves that are used in most fighting games (Fireball, Uppercut, special kicking move.) Please: Make a Mortal Kombat game starring Scorpion or Sub Zero: almost everyone likes them, or atl least finds them fun.

Sakura from Street Fighter: Face it Capcom: nobody likes your anime schoolgirl wet dream but you. The only reason I played as her is to unlock Dan Hibiki, who is obviously the best character out of anything of all time, and even then I skipped her cutscenes and turned the volume alomst all the way down so I didn't have to hear her. And I set it to 1 round matches on the easiest difficulty, just so I didn't have to deal with her boring copypasted moves and annoying voice acting as long.

Hannah Montanna: There was a Hannah Montanna game, so this can be here. Way to make a good role model for kids, Disney, telling them to disrespect parents and be a spoiled brat to everyone. If Walt were here, he'd uppercut whoever brought her on the air into the sun.

My Xbox Live Avatar: I don't care if he's in strong likeness to one of the most awesome characters ever (Doom Marine), having to watch that monstrosity wal around the screen disgusts me.

Zoey from L4D: I guess not really her, just her voice actor. I've had to deal with her in all of the Halo games, Doom 3: Ressurection of Evil (which rhymes with reprecussions of evil, I have no idea if that's on purpose), F.E.A.R.2 (which couldn't have sucked mre anyways), and a whole bunch of other games.

I liked Jacob because he's one of the few ME characters who didn't make me feel like a dick for not being a dick.

I see youre point, Im on another playthrough now and while Im still mainly paragon I am mixing it up a bit with some renegade (not the real jerkass stuff) though it dose make Shepard seem a bit like he/she has bi-polar

but its impossible not to do those renegade quick time events

Especially the one where you headbutt the Krogan. I never avoid that one.

Main character from Vanquish, but that was probably intended as the developers were taking the piss on Western space marines.

Any main character from a choose your own adventure RPG from the likes of Bethesda or Bioware.

I'm going to get some shit for this but...the guys from Gears of Wars, I can't think of any other protagonist I hate as much as these guys. I just don't like how they look like Gorillas instead of people and I just don't like how shallow these guys are, I'll take Raiden over these guys.

I have felt some sort of psychological attachment to many protaganists I have played as however their are some who are just stupid allow me to list them:
Sonic the Hedgehog- A totally meaningless character who is bland and a Total Prick
BJ Blastkawitz- Someone who possesses nothing you can actually care about
Kratos- Murderous fuck who has no self control or likable qualitity
Nathan Drake- Not a very appealing character who just stole from Indiana Jones

Isaac Clarke, I just bought Dead Space, and the whole missing wife thing is pretty damn uninteresting when Isaac is a robot with advanced motor skills.

He gets better in DS2, apparently. And I don't know, maybe it just depends on the person, cos I ended up identifying with him by the end. (Though to make motivation matters worse, it's not even his wife he's after. It's just his girlfriend... Yeah...)

You identified with a mute who cuts up aliens with mining tools?

while its a little harder to get attached to a silent protagonist I found issac to be quite likable, hes not some jerk-ass trigger happy "hero" hes an engineer, I found him to be quite human through is body language and other subtle things, at the start if you swing the camera around before he puts on his mask you can see his face....its not a an action hero face but sort of a kind-normal guy face which you also see at the end it really makes you feel for him , he dose give comentry in the task objectives/manuel thing

I'm the only person ever who misses that one tutorial thing that tells you how to open something that will make the character have depth and meaning. Other than Yahtzee (If you watch his review, you'll get what I mean).
