Animation is an art.

Video games combine all these and add interactivity. To say that video games are not an artform is to say that the above things are not an artform either.

Friggin' FINALLY! So, what counts as art? What does it take for a game to be called art? What is the definition of a game that counts as art?

Presumably the same thing that makes specific pieces of writing art, or specific masses of ink art.

It doesn't combine them, it houses them. Each piece is individual distinct from the others.

A game actually does combine them to produce something whole.

I hate to say it, but...

While the possibility of government grants to make commercially non-viable games is cool and all, you and I know the censorship won't go away in the blink of an eye.

Music is art. Music is also censored, when put on commercial release.
Television series are art. They are also censored on most stations.
Film is art. In some cases, film is censored or given an X-rating when found to be obscene.

Games for commercial release will still be under the same scrutiny that films, TV series and music are put under for their commercial release. This still doesn't mean that teenagers will be able to go out and buy excessively violent and/or sexual video games without retailers and parents being able to stop them. It still does not mean that if the government finds something to be completely obscene, they can't regulate it into obscurity. They still have every right to do that. It just means that now, for certain, developers cannot be completely stopped from making the game.

And I am 100% fine with that outcome.

I'm more concerned about immature people claiming immature games are automatically 100% "mature" because there's a slip of paper that says they're art. Just because it's art doesn't make Duke Nukem any more mature.

Product = A thing made with multiple inputs from marketing/development etc in order to attract buyers

And this changes... What excactly? We have known this for years now, why should we care about the acknowledgement of idiots who don't even know what a controller is. It's not like movies were ever trying to win the acknowledgement of painters or writers or something, and by acting like we are now, we are in fact acknowledging the fact that videogames are lesser then all other arts.
