Alright i need someone to post a link because for the life of me i can't remember what they called these guys, and i'm almost positive if i spent an hour going through the history of escapist forums i could find it, but i won't be doing that.

Anyways real life "superheros" costumes and everything walking around Seattle i think, i saw a video of it and busted out laughing. Basically the dumb vigilantes that think they are doing the world a favor by waving there finger at a group of dumbasses. That kind of vigilante justice should be everywhere, everyone would be so entertained they wouldn't commit any crimes.

Vigilantism is great until you wonder up to a group of thugs, while dressed in your spandex suit and realise you actually cant fight worth a dam.

if you are into comic books i would recommend Kick Ass, its the story of a kid who is in a similar situation and does decide to take the law into his own hands.

I doubt they'll start caring until you cross some line though.
I'm sure that's when you start to make them look bad...

Yeah, Spokane's underworld consists of wide variety of criminals and crimes, I think my hometown started with someone called the South Hill Rapist, he was considered a true boogeyman to the people of Spokane everywhere.

but it then varied to different crimes in recent years, I even heard the Hell's Angels were here in Spokane once. I'd go with the idea of vigilanties easily, I might decide even become one myself one day.

heres a tip, next time you have to call the police about them breaking into your or somebody else property (e.g. garden) and when you call the police they say something like "i'm sorry but their are no units currently availiable in your area", call them back and say "earlier i called about a break in but it's all right now, i've shot them", garantee they'll be round in seconds

On the whole, I don't think vigilantism is a good idea. Mass vigilantism is never a good idea. Chances are good that most vigilantes wouldn't really know what they were doing: they probably wouldn't plan thoroughly enough and end up taking down innocent people in the crossfire, a la Mr Payback. On the other hand, if one person dedicated themself to the cause, training themself so they knew what to do and how to do it, and ensuring that they planned out everything in advance, then that could work. This is why Batman is a good vigilante.

Given my avatar, I'd love to take up vigilantism if I had some untraceable weapons.
Despite everything I've just said, if I were to be a vigilante, I think I'd take the Punisher route as well: if I felt they deserve to be killed, I'd kill them without hesitation. I wouldn't become a vigilante unless the situation were truly desperate, but I would be prepared to if the circumstances demanded it.

Heh.
In Hungary, we just say 'fuck you' to vigilantes.
Same for non-vigilantes.
And politicians.
And not politicians.
And the French.
And everyone who isn't French.

IMO, helping the police = good, vigilantism = bad. I can appreciate the efforts of people who, say, tackle a guy who the police are running after, but deliberately taking the law into their own hands without the police... that isn't right.

Vigilantism is all fun and games until someone harms/kills an innocent person, because lets face it, since when were vigilantes concerned with such petty things as establishing a persons guilt based on credible evidence and witness reports?

In my experience people who support violent vigilantism are much more concerned with satisfying their own selfish fantasy to play the dark knight than to actually do what is right.

I'm incredibly passive so if I were to resort to vigilantism it'd have to be something serious to put me over the edge. Quite frankly though some wanker do deserve a good kick in the teeth and nothing more.

I think performing acts of vigilante justice would get you sent to jail. But if I knew I could do it without having any police trouble (i.e Batman) then I'd love to.
