'Fraid not my metal brother.

If I remember the types correctly(they keep adding and changing what goes where on me!) I'm more of a Power/Speed/Thrash/Heavy/Classic Metal guy.

But in an effort to increase my metalness I will try to listen to everything suggested on this thread.

For as far as viking metal is a genre (which I don't consider it to be), the only band I listen to from time to time is Amon Amarth. I'm more of a black/death metal guy.

I haven't listened to Amon Amarth before, but I love Ensiferum.

Does Finntroll count as Viking Metal?

Nah, Finntroll is Folk Metal. As are Korpiklaani and Ensiferum.

And on the previous note: Pre-Socratic Swing?

On the actual topic: I listen to Amon Amarth and Manowar.

Although sticking them together paints the wrong picture because Manowar has its musical roots in power metal and Amon Amarth has death metal at heart.

I knew Korpiklaani was pure Folk Metal, but I genuinely wasn't sure about Finntroll (probably because "Trollhammeren" always throws me off).

Ensiferum <url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Viking_metal_bands>is definitely Viking metal of a stripe, though. I mean...

Nah. Qing Dynasty Jazz.

Sounds like I'd be more interested in the former. Haven't listened to either, yet...

Here's my favorite Manowar song.

Here's my favorite Amon Amarth song.

There's quite a contrast. One inspires the subtle emotion of "I want to slam someones head in a car door" and the other of "I want to slam the entire worlds head in a galactic car door".

Good stuff.

Oddly enough, it was the latter I preferred. I don't always go for the growling lyrics, but the music itself felt far more rockin'...on the other hand, the Manowar offering did make me spontaneously start headbanging to the beat of the chorus, which has only happened a handful of times (last to <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJXRtXTkrEo>Death To All But Metal). I'll have to look further into both.

Also, random offering time. Blind Guardian is more power and prog than viking metal, but occasionally they delve into the subject matter.

I'm shocked that this thread hasn't turned into all out war over which band belongs in which specific genre, I hate it when that happens.

I'd say Korpiklaani or Ensiferum (fuck you Google chrome spell check) are my favourites at the minute. Korpiklaani for the fact that when I saw them they showered everyone in beer while playing Beer Beer, and Ensiferum for the fact that I have managed to convince myself that most of their songs are about Zelda games.

Turisas and Ensiferum are always a nice thing.
Turisas spontaneously transformed from vikings into postapocalyptic raodwarriors though.
Like that too

plus there never was a more funnier moment in the recordshop when a friend of mine bought his turisas DVD-SE
"I want the Special edition"
shopdude:"The one....with the makeupset?"
*looking at the hard and manly metalhead*
".....yeah.....the one with the makeupset"

i loled hard.metalheads are so funny in their strange machismo

One band that seems to get left aside is Crimfall. They are very much as epic as a Viking/Folk metal band should be, they use an orchestra and use growling male vocals and clean female vocals.
