[HEADING=1]Virtual Universe[/HEADING]

[HEADING=3]IMPORTANT READ THIS[/HEADING]

This RP is closed and we are not looking for more people so do not post your CS or anything in the thread as I will discard your sheet without even looking at it. We also have a line of people who are interested in this RP that I know so I will most likely not need more people anytime soon. In the event that I do need more people the title will be edited to say that we need more players.

Thomas Kleiner is a scientist that is studying virtual reality and how to incorporate it into everyday life. After 5 years of research he created a machine that would give the subjects the ability to fully control their characters in the virtual world. The machine was tested out using video games and Dr. Kleiner hoped that the military would buy his machine and use it as a way to train soldiers. But Dr. Kleiner was not happy with the machine, he wanted to make it more realistic and make the users able to feel pain.

After another year of research he was able to create an AI which could control the virtual world and was able to control the part of the user?s body that registers pain. This made it so when you were shot in the virtual world it would actually feel like you were shot. He named the AI ?Jane? and after some tweaking to the code he was ready for some actual people to test the machine on. After choosing some lucky people to test the machine out he sent them all letters offering them $2000 in exchange for their services. He also provided transportation to his Raleigh North Carolina building if they needed it.

1: I am your lord and master, everything I say goes and I hold a very swift and fatal banhammer.

2: Don?t make this RP less enjoyable for me or any of the other players. Doing so will get you kicked out in a flash.

3: The group chat is not exempt from my wrath and I can and will kick you from the RP for doing things in there.

4: Over powered characters are not welcome and I will warn you if I feel you are getting into OP territory. You will get three warnings and if I feel you don?t get it or you continue the over powered actions I will kick you.

5: If you write one line and think it?s a post then you are sadly mistaken. You will write at least 2 lines per post MINIMUM. Typing a line post will get you chewed out by me and if you continue to do it I will kick you.
Note: There is a little grey area to this rule, you can write a line only if it is necessary but do not abuse it.

6: Use your common sense. That means do not control other peoples characters without permission and do not derail the story in favor of something you came up with.

Dr. Thomas Kleiner was looking at his computer screen looking over the profiles of the people he got to test his machine. ?These young ones should prove useful to my tests. I wonder if they are prepared for what?s in store for them.? Dr. Kleiner thought to himself staring at his computer screen. Dr. Kleiner noticed movement out of the corner of his eye, it was coming from the screen that showed the footage from the security cameras in the lobby. Looking closer at the screen he noticed that a young man walked in. ?That one is?.. Jeff. Well he?s pretty early.? Dr. Kleiner thought to himself able to recognize the young man from memory.

Watching the screen he saw jeff walk up to the receptionist Lyn and the two started talking. Predicting the call from lyn he picked up the phone the second Lyn called him. ?Dr. Kleiner one of your test subjects is here. Should I send him back?? Lyn asked over the phone.

?Tell him and the other test subjects to wait in the waiting room when they arrive. I wish to observe them for a bit before calling them back.? Dr. Kleiner responded. He clicked on the audio to the cameras in the waiting room so he could listen in to what they were saying.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Jeff had driven all the way to Raleigh North Carolina and got there earlier than expected. Checking the time it said it was 5:21 P.M. and they were supposed to get there around 6 P.M. so he knew he was pretty early. He thought about driving around to kill some time but decided against it since he did not know the area at all and didn?t want to get lost. He drove up to a good sized modern looking building and the GPS on his phone said that this was the place. Parking in one of the spots he got out of the car and wiped the sweat off his face and stretched out a little. He doesn?t like to stop during trips and in turn has been in his car for a few hours without a break.

?God I?m so stiff, maybe I should have stopped more.? He thought to himself finishing his stretching. ?Well I guess I should go in, not like I can do much else here.? Jeff said to himself looking at the front door. Walking through the front door he felt the dramatic temperature change as he stepped into the air conditioned building. The dramatic change gave him Goosebumps and it took him a few seconds to get used to it. Looking around he found what looked like a receptionist and he went over to sign himself in.

?Hi my name is Jeff Kennerknecht and I am one of the test subjects for Dr. Kleiner.? Jeff said walking up to the reception desk.

?You?re pretty early you know that.? The receptionist responded in jest.

?Yeah I have a habit of being early. I was going to drive around and try to kill some time but I don?t know the area and I wouldn?t want to risk getting lost.? Jeff responded in a joking manner.

?Well we wouldn?t want that to happen now would we?? The receptionist said laughing a little.

?I doubt that Dr. Kleiner would want me to get lost and have to send someone to find me.? Jeff joked.

?Well let me tell Dr. Kleiner that you are here and see if he wants to see you now.? The receptionist said picking up the phone. ?Dr. Kleiner one of your test subjects is here. Should I send him back?? she said over the phone.

Jeff couldn?t hear what was being said on the other side of the phone so he waited for her to tell him what to do. After a few seconds she put the phone down and looked at him. ?Dr. Kleiner is not ready for you at the moment. He requested that you and the other test subjects wait in the waiting room until he is ready for you.? The receptionist said pointing to a door that said waiting room.

?Alright, thank you.? Jeff thanked before walking into the waiting room. The room was rather large and reminded him of a waiting room he would see in a hospital during the few times he went in for a checkup. He decided to take a seat in one of the chairs in the middle of the room and wait for someone else to show up.

A Hermit's Cave
Uh... I'll be doing this is first-person if that's OK, [user]staika[/user]? I'm more comfortable doing it that way...

"... sir!" I heard a faint voice in the distance. I ignored it.

"Sir!" it was insistent and I felt a hand gently shaking my shoulder.

I opened my eyes at last and the rush of sound assailed me from all sides. Especially the staccato of the rotor blades.

"We will be arriving shortly, sir," my attendant informed me, or at least that was what he said from my lip-reading.

I hissed at him and sensed the pilot smirk.

"I'm still surprised you can sleep through all that!" she grinned at me.

Ignoring the both of them, I looked out of the window at the dying afternoon light that turned to evening. We were over Durham. We would indeed be arriving at Kleiner's facility soon. For a few minutes, the other two devolved into meaningless protocol driven conversation and I put the headset back on.

"What do we know about this 'Jane'?" I finally spoke.

"Very little, sir, that is, of course, why you're here."

"Why isn't my brother involved in this, instead of me," I sighed heavily, "It seems much more his sort of affair..."

"Your brother, most respectfully, is a tad on the excessive side in his exuberance of such matters. He has a quick hand, while you have a quick eye, which is what we need for matters such as these."

I looked archly at my attendant, who appeared most earnest, the exchange of which made the pilot laugh. Shooting her a glare, she reduced it to another smirk.

"And the other test subjects?"

"Nothing of consequence. The Director did give us little time and little materiel with which to carry this little project out, but as far as I can tell, it is a somewhat eclectic combination of individuals who should teach you a few things here and there!" he ended somewhat pointedly.

"If they're given to intellectual discourse, perhaps, but have you anything of value to tell me?"

"None whatsoever."

I hissed again, illiciting more vapid grins. The final few minutes of the flight were spent in silence, what silence that could be had in a helicopter. Looking at my watch as we landed on the DFG tower overlooking Kleiner's laboratory complex, it was barely five o'clock. The pilot powered down the engine and handed me a set of binoculars as I alighted.

"How long?" she asked.

"Forty-five minutes," my attendant replied as I started looking down at the carpark and entrance to the facility.

At quarter to six, having observed the arrival of most of the others, I inserted my earpiece and made my way to the entrance of the DFG building and walked along the block towards that which awaited me.

"Sir, the penultimate one has just arrived," a few minutes in.

At precisely 5:59:15, my left foot crossed the threshhold to Kleiner's realm.

Don't worry about this much, most of it's going to be negated once things start and is mostly just designed to make my character seem churlish...

Erik waited at the terminal for his suitcase to come around. Again.

"Why couldn't Jeff just have given me a ride?" he sighed finally grabbing his bag and slinging it over his shoulder. He found his way to the parking lot of the airport, and after checking through his pockets (passport, wallet, all there) he cleared his throat and whistled.

"Taxi!"

He leaned against the streetlight and waited, casually smirking and thinking about how if he was running the Amazing Race, he'd be so far behind it wouldn't even be funny. Well, maybe just a little.

A few minutes rolled by, and so did a few yellow and white checkered cabs. No vacancy, no dice, except for the fuzzy ones hanging on the rear view mirror. Man, if this plane ticket hadn't been covered, there was no way that Erik would be in Raleigh right now. No way.

With a blare of a horn, Erik jumped with a start.

"Well, are you getting in?" the cabbie asked, rolling up his sleeves to flaunt his heavily-tatted arms.

Erik threw his bag unceremoniously into the trunk and hopped in the passenger seat.

"Where to?" the cabbie questioned.

Erik unfolded the directions from his wallet and handed them to the driver. "This ride is on Dr. Thomas, I guess."

"Oh?" the cabbie raised his eyebrows and drove on.

The ride was silent, except for an unspoken feeling of adventure bursting in Erik's chest. They pulled up to a rather unremarkable building, and the cabbie thrusted the gear into park.

"Don't worry about the cash. It's on the house, kid."

Erik nodded his thanks, grabbed his suitcase, and slammed the door closed. He struggled into the door, his bag getting stuck on the hinge, and walked up to the desk.

"Dr. Kleiner, I presume?" Erik said to the secretary, half-joking.

"Me?" the receptionist replied with a twinkle in her eye, "I'm just the hired help. Dr. Kleiner is in the back."

Erik stepped through the back door and saw a few people sitting there and received a warm, friendly wave from Ryan. But there he was, sitting there like he owned the place.

"Hey Jeff," Erik smirked, swinging a chair next to him and nonchalantly dropping himself into it, his luggage falling to the floor. "How about that ride you were supposed to give me?"

"How about that ride you were supposed to give me?"

"Hey you're the one who said that he wanted to ride first class in the all expenses paid plane." Jeff replied in a joking manner sitting up a little in the process. He always had a problem with slouching in his seat which made people think he is short until he stood up. "So how was your plane ride mr high class?" Jeff asked.

"Same old, same old," Erik replied. "The Coke was flat, the peanuts were stale, and there weren't any good movies on."

He leaned back in his chair, almost falling over before straightening back up.

"We should have road tripped for old time's sake," Erik joked. "Except without your metalhead soundtrack."

"You know you love my music, much better than half the crap you listen to." Jeff joked. He liked multiple forms of heavy metal and liked to joke about how that music was the best kind of music.

"We can road trip back home after this is over though. Which reminds me we seem to be the only ones here at the moment." Jeff stated looking around the empty room.

Mitch rolled into town, still relatively fresh despite having been on the road for 2 days to get here. Somewhat odd, having a meeting at 6PM, rather than AM, but hell, for $2000 I'm not going to ask many questions. He pulled his GNX into the parking lot, accompanied by the sound of the wastegate bleeding off excess pressure from the turbos, and turned into a spot at the back of the lot.

He cut the engine, and then took a moment to work all the kinks from the drive out. How in the hell do those long-haul truckers do this day after day? Must be something in their blood. Mitch grabbed his bag from behind the seat, and headed into the reception area.

"I'm here to see Dr. Kleiner, could you tell him I've arrived?" He asked the receptionist.

"I'm sorry, Dr Kleiner is not quite ready for you yet." She responded. "Please take a seat in the waiting room, he should be only a couple minutes."

"Thank you." Mitch said, heading over to a row of chairs. He checked the clock, saw that it was 5:40, and took a seat across from the other three men. Mitch settled in to wait. Since he was a bit uncomfortable around strangers, he figured he'd wait for them to make the first move.

"... I don't drive yet. Can't afford anything without a job first. Hah.."

"Don't even worry about it this dude over here doesn't drive either." Jeff stated pointing at erik. "I have to take this kid everywhere, except here since he'd rather take a plane than ride with me and enjoy my company." Jeff joked.

Jeff then saw the door open and another person walk in and take a seat near them. "YO names Jeff how are you doing?" Jeff asked to the newcomer trying to get to know the other test subjects.

"Did you just say yo?" Erik asked, rolling his eyes. "Come on Jeff, the '90s called. They want their catchphrase back."

He pulled out his license and waved in in Jeff's face.

"I can drive, but I prefer you being my chauffeur," he winked.

"Yo, names Jeff how are you doing?"

"Sup man, you here for the testing too? ... Wait, dumb question.. sorry haha. But uh how are you?"

"Not bad, all things considered." Mitch started. "Just drove here from Minnesota. I'm Mitch, and yeah, I'm here for the testing. How are all of you doing?"

Erik laughed at Ryan's quip.

"Dude, I work for my school paper. I miss meals like it's my job."

The two laughed and shook hands.

"I think we're gonna get along great," Erik said with a smile.

"I'm alright, just hungry- sort of. Snacked on a chicken wrap from Burger King on the way here, but it was pretty small. But don't worry about me, I don't eat often anyways and sometimes miss a few meals for the sake of laziness.. if that makes sense."

"Know exactly what you mean" Mitch said, watching Ryan laugh with Erik. "Course, when I miss a meal, it's cause I wasn't hungry. No point in eating if there's no point in eating, right?"

A voice drifted across the blackness as I slept. I couldn't figure it out. Was it a man or a woman. "5 minutes till landing" It called. "Landing?" I thought as the announcement finished.

A brief flicker of the eyes and I had opened my eyes. It seemed dark and as I looked around I remembered that I took a plane ride and a first class one too. It was to North Carolina to do a job that landed him $2000 dollars. To me that was quite a lot. Without a second thought I packed my things and sped off to the airport. And of course I said goodbye to my family and everything. I also couldn't forget all the things I needed such as my Nintendo DS, money, passport and stuff like that.

I looked outside of the craft window and saw the land of America. It brought back memories of Florida and the family vacation. The light flooded the first class room of the airplane. This was the first time I had flied first class. And I loved it. Of course no alcohol, but as much Pepsi I wanted. "I love this!" I cheerfully yelled out as I drank the rest of the can that rested near me. As soon as I had drank the can the door opened wide and the hostess came in just telling me that the plane will land soon. I nodded at her. As she left once more I sighed. i loved first class too much.

5 Minutes later at the Terminal the plane docked into.

A sigh flew across the room as I had already gotten off the plane with my backpack. Full of everything I needed. The room was the international airport building. I quickly got out of the arrivals building and outside into the American air. I breathed deeply as I hailed a Taxi down and started my drive to the building I needed to go to. "hmm it's 5:50 pm at the moment" I said quietly to myself as I laid back and let the taxi take me to the building whilst watching the outside of the vehicle. "I hate...jet lag! I mention to myself once more.

A Hermit's Cave
Off to the side, I could hear voice faintly from a waiting room, but in front of me was a woman sitting at a desk, tapping away... rather meaninglessly at her computer. Approaching her, I glared down at her.

"A-and you are?" she asked, unsure.

I simply tapped my breast-pocket where my ID was hanging. She squinted at it and glanced back at me. Of course..., it was in German. I opened my bag and produced my English ID, presenting it to the receptionist. She looked at it, a little puzzled.

"If you could wait for a moment," she said, standing up holding the card.

She left to a backroom whereupon I promptly had a look at her monitor, scanning my eyes over photos, profiles and whatever information seemed pertinent. Nam-woon Kim, Erik van Rheenen, Mitch Goossens, Shaun Pittman, Ryan Matthew and Jeff Kennerknecht... eclectic indeed... even so... how banal!.

Flipping the monitor back round again as the side-door opened, the receptionist returned with my card, handed it back to me uneasily and sat down.

"Thank you... Mr Dravencole, if you could wait through there, please, Dr Kleiner should be with you all shortly."

I nodded my thanks, and walked on through. I made my way to the waiting room where six others waited and chatted. Such was my entrance though, I took a seat, put my headphones back on and closed my eyes without attracting the notice of the others.

"Sir, if you could at least put on a pretence of being productive, I'm sure this will proceed more easily," I heard the pilot's voice in my ear.

Opening my eyes and rising to my feet, I was confronted with six pairs of eyes on me. Time for my diffident face, I suppose... I bowed slightly, taking my long-coat off as I did so.

"Good evening, I am Aidan Dravencole...," only then did my spectacles transition back to indoor conditions.

The sun shining through the closed curtains suggested that it was the morning. Nam Woon turned off his I-Pod and yawned, stretching his stiff body. First plane ride in seven years and I don't get a minute of sleep. Why am I surprised? Satisfied with his strech, he stood up and curled his toes. He didn't feel any different but he had faith in Die Hard's flying advice. Looking down the aisle, he noticed that everyone was still sleeping despite the call for landing. He slapped his cheek and prepared to enter the land of America. Although he had stayed awake for the entire plane ride, Nam Woon was still sad that he had to leave. It would be a lie to say that it had been a lovely experience but it was an experience nonetheless.

At the Airport Exit.

After getting through the rather ugly landing process, Nam Woon called for a taxi. Or a cab. He wasn't sure what they called them in America. Nevertheless, one of them managed to catch his weak hand signal.
"Where to?" The driver asked impatiently. Assuming he had asked the two-word question over a thousand times, Nam Woon didn't take the driver's rude tone personally.
"Erm..." Nam Woon checked his phone and, after a series of erratic and anxious taps, found the place. Knowing that he would stutter, he simply showed the driver the place. He seemed surprised by the place and simply nodded. Not knowing cab etiquette, Nam Woon simply stayed mute the entire ride. His phone indicated that he was getting closer to the place and that was when he realized that he had somehow forgotten that he had to go there at 6pm. He decided to stop at an internet café and play some Halo:Reach to kill the time. He thanked and paid the driver and left the car.

A few hours later.

Last man standing. The announcer said. Adrenaline kicked in and Nam Woon cracked his neck and got ready to face the incoming horde. It was Alpha Zombies on Uncaged, just how he liked it. The first zombie came into view through his pistol scope, headshot, and another two faced a similar fate. He checked his right flank and noticed that they were hopping platforms. Clever girls. He shot them one by one as they came into range of his shotgun. But not clever enough. Nam Woon reveled at the sound of Overkill and became even more excited. He sprinted back to his original position and continued to pop heads as they appeared. Assuming he had bought himself time, he checked his phone. It read 5.30. He swore and picked up the controller again only to be greeted by Game Over. Shutting the console off and paying his fees, Nam Woon started his half-hour journey towards the place. He liked walking, especially long distances. Since he wasn't old enough to drive and the places he wanted to go were within reasonable distances Nam Woon always found himself walking. Walking helped him relax and enjoy life as it is.

Half an hour later.

If it wasn't for the people walking into what looked like the building, Nam Woon might have walked past and never noticed. He took a look at the building and was impressed. On that note, it didn't take much to impress him. He entered the building and wondered where the people he saw had gone. He took a deep breath and took stiff steps towards the receptionist only for her to tell him that "you must be Nam Woon" and that he had to go to the "waiting room." He rectified his position and upon entering the room noticed five people, all far older than him. Nam Woon wasn't uncomfortable around people older than him but that was in school choir. He loosely knew them. These people were complete strangers. Shyly looking away, Nam Woon sat himself down into a chair.

Holy shit that's a lot. I won't be writing this much in the RP, I just happened to have double ict.

"Excellent everyone is here now." Dr. Kleiner thought to himself looking at the screen which showed the waiting room. He had been collecting information on all of the subjects. He was able to get their height and weight measurements the second they walked in. He had a built in detector in the door that told him how tall they were and had hidden an electronic scale under the rug in front of the door.

This was sort of a hobby of his as he liked to challenge himself to capture the information he needed without the subjects knowing about it. He had a lot of experience and prided himself on his skill with it. He was in the process of making a rough psych report on the subjects. He could tell what type of person they would be by how they acted in the situation they were put in.

"None of these subjects are even close to being soldier material." Dr. Kleiner thought to himself. He was disappointed a little by that fact but they were what he had to work with and he had to make due. "Well I guess if I could make them into soldier material the armies of the world will become all the more interested in the machine." Dr. Kleiner thought to himself trying to think on the bright side. Something caught his attention on the screen as one of the subjects looked to be taking the initiative to introduce everyone.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Jeff noticed that there were a few new faces in the room. This seemed like all that would be coming so he wanted to get everyone introduced to each other. He knew the pain of being in a group and not knowing anyone and just sitting there. He was lucky enough that he knew erik but other than that everyone here was new to him.

"Hey guys, everyone seems to be here right now and since we don't know each other that well we should try to get to know each other better." Jeff announced trying to get everyone's attention. "Well I already know erik but that's besides the point." Jeff added almost forgetting that erik was here.

"I'll start." Jeff said getting in a central place where everybody could see him. "My name's Jeff Kennerknecht but you guys can just call me jeff. I am from Erie, Pennsylvania and I am currently a networking student in college. I enjoy sports and I play a lot of video games." Jeff said giving a general description of himself. "You all have to do it so who's next?" Jeff asked looking at everyone else.

Minutes before the introduction.

As I stepped outside of the taxi and paid the kind man I felt hot in the travel clothes I brought from the winter of Australia...if it existed that is. I stepped into the building that looked still open hoping that this adventure wasn't for nothing. As I walked up to the receptionist she turned to me and asked. "May I help you?" In a calm voice. "I'm one of the...ugh I don't know I only got this in the mail a few days ago" I said as I pulled out the ID badge and showed it to the woman.

"Oh. Your the last one, go to the waiting room over there." She pointed to the room where everyone was. "Thanks" I responded back as I walked to the waiting room.

Present.

A sigh came from me as I remembered that I wasn't good with new people. I stood up with all my muscles. "Ugh...I'm Shaun Pittman, but you guys can call me Shaun. I'm from Western Australia and I am a college Student. I love video games too but also anime, visual novels and...well swords." I blushed greatly as I sat down quickly with a red face.

"You all have to do it so who's next?"

Ahh dammit... was kinda hoping that I'd be able to avoid the intro's... Mitch thought to himself. Always hated this point in meetings.

"I'm Mitch Goossens, from Lino Lakes, MN. Going to school for Auto Service Technology, and I enjoy gaming, shooting, and wrenching on cars." Soon as he finished, Mitch sat back down and waited for the next person to introduce themselves.

Figuring that he might as well get it over and done with, Nam Woon stood up to introduce himself. He straightened his back and tried to hide his nervousness. After biting his shaking lip, he began his introduction. "Hey guys I'm N-N-Nam Woon Kim from New Zealand," fuck! "as you can tell, I still go to school. I like gaming, writing and listening and playing music." Nicely done. Now sit down. Relieved, he almost fell into his chair.
