The other day, whilst playing the frankly brilliant Mafia II, I stopped to fill up my car, as the game needs you to at some point, to hear the single greatest line in any game I've ever played.

This isn't what I want to do. I really want to be an actor, like on the radio. I mean who wouldn't want to be a voice actor?
I honestly couldn't stop laughing for a good few minutes and neither could my Dad sat behind me (He wanted to see what happens as he loved the first game, which pretty much introduced me to gaming). But it got me thinking: Who wouldn't want to be a voice actor?

I, personally, would love to have lent my voice to something, whether a brief animation on the web or TV, a game, a radio play or even a song. I just think it'd be pretty cool to say "Oh yea, that was me". One of my friends, I've just remembered as I type, was a child voice actor and made quite a bit from it so I'd also be enticed by the pay as well as my initial interests above.

So, my question for you Escapists is:
Would you be a voice actor and why? And is there any voice you wish you'd provided or thought you could do better?

[small]Please no "I'd love to have X's voice" because we all know that Jeremy Irons and Morgan Freeman win that competition.[/small]

They're actually referencing the alleged story that Frank Sinatra used to work for the Mafia, but quit to be a singer.

I would work as a voice actor, I think I could do a pretty good job. I bet I could have done great as Raynor's voice in SC2, they messed that up pretty bad.

A voice actor would be a great job, because you don't get any of the bother in public until you speak in that particular voice.
Trouble is, a lot of the money these days is in public appearances.
And my voice is terrible. I like to think I'm alright at impressions though.

It would be pretty dang fun, yeah.

Though since I'm Swedish, I would just be forced to either play a Russian or a German guy.

Because that is all Swedish actors get to do outside of Sweden.

I would be a voice actor, were it not for the fact it could only be a secondary job. It doesn't pay very well, even the most famous actors have to do 20-30 interviews to get a role. It sounds worth it, though.

It would be one of my top career choices. Actually considering pursuing it...

No specific characters, but I still think it would be an awesome job.

A lot of people have told me they like my voice and have said I should pursue something like this, but I never really thought too much about it.

Maybe so, but I still think it's the more obvious joke too, and that the available actors must have had a contest to see who got to say that wonderful line.

It would be awesome if your voice became famous! I would love to do the voice for a main character in say... a new cartoon of something!

I don't really think I could be a voice actor, I mean it'd be really fun, but I would probably laugh every few seconds.

Nope. I would suck at it.
And even if I didn't, I'd always get the role of "irritating nasally douchebag". That would blow hard and suck deep at the same time.

But okay, let's assume in this scenario I wouldn't suck at it and I wouldn't have the shittest voice on the planet. Would I then become a voice actor?
Sure, why the fuck not. Pay is pay, and it's better than anything else I could do.

I could be a voice actor, but I do tend to overact quite a bit... usually intentionally for laughs though.

I want David Attenborough's job. Not exactly voice acting, but I love his voice and Stephen Fry's.

I've never thought of voice acting as a job, but I wouldn't mind it, I mean, it'd be interesting.

I don't like my voice that much, so I wouldn't want to impose it on *possibly* millions of people. I also tend to talk in a monotone a lot of the time, and hardly have any acting chops, so... no. I wouldn't be a voice actor.

Sorry for the negative vibe, but my voice is something I'm touchy about.

It would be an AWESOME job. Getting paid for playing around...I table-top RP as a hobby, this would be both good practice and inspiration. I would love a job like this.

I'd do it for the fan girls at conventions.
I'd enjoy it and think I can do very different voices, but I'm very nervous whenever I have to perform anything.

Did you know!?
Final Fantasy Xs Wakka (John DiMaggio) also voices Kimahri, who also voices Bender from Futurama and Jake the Dog from Adventure Time..!
Also, Tidus (from the same game don'tcha know) is also the voice of Ratchet (as in Ratchet and Clank).
Way cool, no? I like to know these things, whenever I hear a voice in-game I like to know who it is and who else they've been because I recognise the voice.

OT: Yeah, voice acting would be cool. I used to want to do it, but I've read about it and it takes a lot of effort and a strong voice, as you're talking pretty much solidly and consistently for weeks on end for a recording.
