I find them annoying too, and apparently it's quite a polarising subject, with people either hating or loving them.

I've just been reading an article about it on the BBC's website, and it's pretty interesting hearing about the problems they're causing due to their unique harmonics, but the some of the possible solutions to the problem seems too technical for my liking...
Why should they have to consider the possibility and expense of erecting huge speakers which broadcast the same note in reverse amplitude, just to make the World Cup bearable for audiences, to allow viewers to hear commentators pronouncing the vowel "E" and to allow the players to hear the referee's whistle and instructions from their manager and team mates?
