I just dislike the lack of interactivity, or rather that it is only just. I know that style of gameplay started before the MMORPG with games likes Diablo but the MMORPG has taken it to such an extent that the simple descriptor "Massively Multiplayer On-line Role Playing Game" has become almost as specific a genre as "First Person Shooter". Point, click, point, click, point click. I mean obviously a lot of people enjoy that given the popularity of so many games in that vein but it really does nothing for me personally. Though in WAR's case, if there is a trial offered I will most certainly take it up, just to see what they did with the Warhammer source material.
You know Hellgate:London? It's a pretty average game and quite obviously framed after the likes of Diablo and WoW in its general design ethic but do you know what it manages to do? Not bore me. The shooter-like controls in that game make a huge difference in how much fun it is to play, for me. So despite that it is conceptually a mirror of the basic MMORPG design, the simple fact that you can actually control the action, rather than just interacting with it, somehow manages to make the game way more appealing.
But like I said, I'd still like to try out WAR simply because I love all things Warhammer, I just don't expect to be taken with any longterm appeal. I assume it is subscription-based as well? That'd be another big point-off. :/
