We get a couple of feet in northern California, but it's [i/]never[/i] predictable. The forecasters said there would be a foot of snow yesterday, today and tomorrow and it was clear and sunny.

Arizona. Snow is kind of a rarity here, so I have the feeling that everything gets shut down to silently revel in the fact that we get snow.

Colorado. We don't tend to close for almost anything. But on a few occasions they have closed down schools for the day with only a little snow for just seems like the hell of it, especially if we haven't gotten much snow that year.

I live in Texas. We don't get snow often but when we do, yeah, schools shut down.

Once, I was coming home and it was cold enough that my hands got effing numb in my gloves. The next day, we hear that the roads have gotten a little icy and our school is closed that day.

I live in Birmingham, and school closing is left to the discretion of the schools themselves.
The school I teach at decided "We won't close unless the council enacts a blanket closure" even though the school bus service had closed down because the roads were too treacherous. Because of this, I was very nearly involved in an accident when some idiot skidded on black ice. Thanks Dizzy J[footnote]An actual nickname for the head. Not of his choosing of course.[/footnote]

Otherwise, the news just screams that we're all going to die because there isn't enough grit, and everyone else goes along with their daily lives, just wrapped up a bit warmer.

We get so much snow here, school never cancels for that reason. The only time it would be canceled is if it all melted and froze again, creating lots of ice.

When it snows here in Wales, we celebrate and have wild snow orgies.
It's awesome, because i woke up this morning and did that. Not expecting to see all this snow when i woke up!

[small](In case you didn't guess, we hardly ever have snow here!)[/small]

I live in Stockholm in Sweden and we got snow fucking everywhere but I've never even heard about schools closing in my entire child hood (I'm in my tent year of school) and its never been closed schools for my dad neither who grew up in a colder place (Helsingland) so yeah the schools attitude is "we don't give a shit if its snow everywhere and our shitty trains stopped working GET YOUR ASS TO SCHOOL LIKE A REAL VIKING YOU PUSSY OR YOU WILL BE EATEN BY POLAR BEARS"
so yeah I've never seen any school close and I doubt I ever will.
Aww...Damn it. Ninja'd (kind of).

I live in Sweden to and the amount of snow we get is a shitload of it and it's everywhere. I have not heard about any school to close down because of the snow and to quote the guy i qouted..."GET YOUR ASS TO SCHOOL LIKE A REAL VIKING YOU PUSSY OR YOU WILL BE EATEN BY POLAR BEARS". Ok they didn't really say that but you had to go to school anyways. Regardless of the weather.

Twin Cities, Minnesota reporting in here. Basically, the amount of snow we get is compared to the Halloween Blizzard of 1991 and then we decide whether stuff is closed or not. Just a couple inches? No closing. A few to 6 inches? Maybe two hours late. About a foot? Okay...NOW we'll consider closing.

Snow caved in the Metrodome? The team deflated LONG before the Dome did...

Northern Kentucky here. Our particular school district is about ten different kinds of stupid. If there's a light dusting of snow and no one around us is canceling school, you bet your ass we're going to be unique little snowflakes (pun totally intended) and cancel. But if everyone around us is out because we got 4-6 inches of snow and there are wrecks and everything bad is happening, whelp, too bad, school day for you.

I hate Kentucky.
What part exactly? I remember in 2004 when a lot of blizzards hit Lexington, and many lost power. My school was in Boyle County and we closed for the day. It had been my first snow day since elementary school. But we only had an hour delay the next day. Apparently us and 2 schools in Louisville were the only schools open IN THE STATE!!!

An inch. Really. You get some snowstorms up here in Canada that leave people stuck and schools stay open.

Colleges and schools that I've been to never seem to close :c Even if every other school in the area has.

It's great watching TV when there's a big snow storm in England though. Last year everyone on the news was like "AN ENTIRE INCH OF SNOW? IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT!" when noone else really gave a damn.

Hello dear Escapist, a little background information 1st. Live in the southern united states, just north enough to get snow/sleet, but just south enough for the shcool board to *Pun not intended* freeze up when it does finally hit. Today, December 17, we had less than an inch of solid snowfall. The school system shut down all schools in about 10 counties.

So here is the question, my friends, how do those in positions of authority near you react to snow? Do you live in an area where you never recieve it and dont have to worry about it? Do you live where snow is a constant, something that simply becomes part of the norm? Do you live where any amount of snow causes almost complete sociotal breakdown? Share with us your tales of intrest!

Greetings from Finland!
When I look out of the window I see snow.

No schools are closed. Ever.
Of course, just like in Sweden, public transport is delayed a little, that's all there is to it actually.

When I was a kid and still in the elementary, and it had snowed in, all it meant was "bring skis". Snow in here changes nothing but the P.E classes.

I got a foot and a half of snow overnight...three nights in a row. Nothing got closed. Where I live, anything short of two feet is a light dusting.

Last year we had 75 centimetres of snow, which is about 30 inches of snow or two and a half feet if you want.
We also had -12 degrees Celsius which is about 12 degrees Fahrenheit.
Schools were not closed.
We've had hurricanes.
Schools were not closed.

So far this year, we've got 15 centimetres of snow (6 inches) and -6 degrees celsius.
