The Legendary ending of Halo 3, just because it leaves the ending open, I mean, what is that planet they were headed towards?
in response to the halo 3 legendary ending:

this is coming from the perspective of someone who has read too many of the halo books, but my random wild guess is that the planet is onyx. the frigate split right next to the ark, so it would be totally possible to have floated to onyx. but that is just a wild guess.
I have read all of the Halo books myself (at least all the ones I know of) and it wasn't Onyx. If you remember, all of Onyx's land fell away, or dissolved, or what have you, exposing the interconnecting and cris-crossing beams that are the inside of it.

I think...
damnit, i forgot about that. you are right, onyx did break apart. although, it could be the sphere the other spartans ended up inside of when they went through the teleport. but probably not.

2001: A Space Odyssey. Though, considering the movie as a whole, it didn't make any sense.

Because even if you watch it in "chronological order" it still doesn't actually explain itself.
Really? I thought they wrapped it up nicely. What did you think was left hanging?
Only if you assume Teddy is telling the truth. But he might be lying because it was actually him. Or he might just be lying to avoid being killed.

My pick would have to be the movie version of The Mist.
what pissed me off about it was that they never revealed anything regarding the creatures. Maybe the book didn't leave that out.
The book didn't explain where the creatures. Never seen the movie but the guy and son and girlfriend don't die in book.

The Mist's Ending (Movie) pissed me off for another reason:

So yeah, they wanted a real downer ending. Something really depressing. And i am okay with that.
But couldn't they really come up with something better as "LOL, you shot your loved ones! If you stopped for a minute, everything would've been fine!" ?
Even more annoying if you take into account that the movie was hyped and advertised for "having the most shocking ending EVAR!"...wich might be true if you are shocked by enormous amounts of cheapness

the matrix revolutions...just, wow. So anti-climatic!
Even though i love the matrix, i have to agree the ending was a bit of a let down. I was expecting a bit more, i honestly don't understand how people don't understand the matrix aswell its a fairly simple thing imo.

Mine would have to be the Cowboy Bebop ending.

"Bang". Great show, but did Spike die? I still ask myself that question and still can't decide on an answer.

Note: It doesn't have to be an anime based, confusing ending like I did. It can be from a movie, TV show, video game or a book.
Actually, the maker of the show wanted it to be left ambiguous and is constantly questioning why so many people think he did die, according to interviews. I personally think it makes it a more beautiful ending if he did die, but would like to believe that he lived and finally got it on with Faye.

Blade Runner. That entire movie just had me saying "What the crap..."

Trigun. Brought up tons of emotional and deep questions, then ended it with a show recap (honestly, a show recap for half of the last episode?) and a short, simple gun battle with no explanation of exposition whatsoever.

Fooly Cooly. Another one that just confused me the entire time (but an amazing anime nonetheless).
Going from bottom to top...
Fooly Cooly was made by the same people who made NGE. Impenetrable plot combined with pretty animation is kinda their game.
With the Trigun anime, that's what happens when you end the anime about, what, 3-4 years too early and don't even introduce half of the later cast? It's called a gecko ending, I believe. Look it up on tv tropes. Try not to ruin your life because of the website I just introduced you to.
Blade Runner was about blurring lines, about what makes a person, a person, and finally about making little to no sense due to the massive amounts of unique stylization and VERY thick symbolism.

OP: Going to have to go with the show Firefly. I know it was canceled and had a movie, but come ON it ended too soon god damn it!

Another one:

While i was okay with the Ending of FEAR 2 (...well, mostly because it's weird uniqueness), i can't shake the feeling that the last 20 Minutes or something were the only time were the story actually moves...somewhere.

You might be very confused if you play FEAR 2 without playing the first one, but when an eventual FEAR 3 will be out, everything relevant in FEAR 2 can probably reduced to one or two sentences.

I'm gonna say Medal of Honor:Allied Assault had the worst ending ever. I was so mad, the same day I went to the game store and traded it.

No ending cinematic, no ending resolution, no letter of congrats, not even a Frakking ending screen. Went from ending the mission right to credits.

Ever heard of Ultraman [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraman]?
It's one of those kids shows--predecessor to Power Ranger.
Except at the end, everyone died. Like, everyone. The kid, the hero, the heroine, the entire city--dead--wiped out by some crazy ass monster.
Take that, modern Saturday morning kids show!

(I did search this and didn't find anything similar to what am about to talk about.)

Think of an ending, that left you a bit puzzled an ending which left far to many questions or even just one big question. For example an ending that left you with such thoughts, like. "Wait so did he/she die or not?"

Basically endings that left you puzzled, they were good endings and the show that they came from was good to, "it just left you a bit confused."

Mine would have to be the Cowboy Bebop ending.

"Bang". Great show, but did Spike die? I still ask myself that question and still can't decide on an answer.

For Cowboy Bebop, watch the whole of the end credits, you should see a star go out (given what the Indian Shaman-like guy says with regards to stars going out and warriors dying, it should answer your query). Hope that helps.

As for me... Erm, probably No Country for Old Men. Great film. But last 20 minutes or so, just bad. Almost feels like theres an extra 15 minutes of the film to go when it finishes.

That Fucking Cut To Black!

I hate to say it because I loved it so much but COD4's ending just left me wondering what happened and I went outside.

Stephen King's book "Cell" made me cringe. Don't get me wrong, most of King's books end up with that to be continued? But this one just went (and I'm not joking) "Wake up Jakey (or whatever the son's name was), it's your daddy."

Beh
Oh God. . This all the way.
I Loved that book and then we get that?! Basically his teenage son has his brain reduced to that of a babies. .
We've spent the whole book trying to find him, to confirm if he is okay,
and then he is found but is a vegetable.
If only King had put on more line in at the end, along the lines of, "Turns into zombie and kills father" Or "Shows the smallest sight of human reaction" (Just so we'd know it was possible for him to relearn life)

And as others have said.
Assassains Creed, (would have been nice to have a modern day assassain break through the door and say something cheesy like "Come with us" and then fade to credits)
And COD4. .
I wish Grim Fandango had had a bit more of an open ending actually. Even thoguh there is no market for it today it would be nice to have a glimmer of hope for a sequel.

The end to Fable. That was rather a let down. Growing up as a gamer in the 80s, I am still mostly used to end-of-game scenes that are nothing but a picture and text, but in the age of 3d, to run across one from a major developer smacks of laziness.

Ok, I've got an ending that's leaving me with a big "What the fuck" as my thought. About 90% of these entries that are one liners that don't really explain why the ending left them puzzled. So they name the game alone and then go about their way as though everyone in the world knows what the fuck the ending was, and why the fuck it puzzles them. That's truly a puzzling ending.

Hard to believe it hasn't been mentioned yet, but Final Fantasy VII. I literally had no idea what to make of it, and then they show Red XIII running five hundred years later. It made no sense, and they took eight years to make a sequel which still failed to completely explain the ending.

MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS IF YOU'VE BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK WITHOUT 3 DOLLARS AND A PLAYSTATION:

I played that game, and at the end I was like "What the fuck? Did that just happen? Was that rose girl real? How far was I playing the game before it became a simulation? Was it always a simulation? And why were the patriots all dead?!

Needless to say, I literally was bothered for DAYS over whether or not I was real. Usually I know the difference between reality and fiction when I'm playing a videogame, but I was completely dumbfounded when I realized that was exactly what the game WANTED me to do at the end of it. I was like "The simulation (game) was of a simulation... and it had never told me?! What kind of mindfuckery is this!?"

Maybe you guys weren't so confused, but to this day I question if my life is happening or not.
Yeah, MGS2 messed with my head too, but also because of the final conversation with Otacon and Snake talking about the Patriots. Dead for 100 years?

Haha that's awesome :) I reacted the same way as you. In fact, it was MGS2 that sparked my interest in Philosophy. It depresses me how some people completely dismissed the game because it messed with you. Definitely one of my favourite games ever :D

As for the topic, The Conduit has the worst ending ever. It ends as you're about to go fight the guy who's been doing all the bad stuff in the game. Horrible ending for an average-at-best game.

A series of unfortunate events.
The ending is just like, "SO anyway, maybe this series is true and maybe it isn't, and nobody knows what happened to anybody. The end." and I'm left wondering WTF THE SUGAR BOWL IS!

The second episode in the new season of House, I mean- is he REALLY gonna quit and let Foreman take over?! If he does then it isn't gonna be "House" anymore, it'll just be "Foreman" which involves 10 minutes in each episode where he tries to be House but fails horribly at it
