I have absolutely no idea but I have went into the one in my town at around 3 in the morning and it was still packed. However they are currently remodeling so it was a ghost town last time I went in for my late night/early mornin romp through a department store because it was open and I was waiting for a phone call.

Well, on an average day, I go into walmart zero times.

Therefore, by raw extrapolation, I estimate that no one shops at Walmart.

Seems a little high but, for a 24 hr walmart, 10 people/min during busiest 12 hrs, 5/min during off peak times, is 10800/day.

Not a single person. And I know that for a fact. WE don't have Wal-mart over here. We've not yet been conquered.

My Wal-Mart is a particularly high volume store, and it's 24 hours, so I'd say a lot more than that. There's usually 15-18 cashiers working without any breaks in the lines during the busier times and then also considering 8 self-check outs and then cashiers in other departments... I wouldn't be surprised if it was 8 or 10k.
Why would employees get breaks during busier business hours? Isn't that why they are there?

Per Walmart per day? A few thousand If you just count heads at the door. Of course, why are you asking us questions for a statistics class? We don't know.

local? you are literally asking an unanswerable question: reasons:

seasonal changes in people going out
location
population density
accessibility[/quote

Dude it's an estimate it doesn't have to be that accurate does it.

I'd say about 6000 average a day

Why not just call a few Wal-Marts nearby and ask? It can't be all that much of a secret.

Because I don't need to.

Basically, what I needed had nothing to do with Walmart. It was to see if the person answering the question based their answer on the number given in the question. I asked the same question another place, only instead of 5000, I used 500.
So, that's why.

So, yeah. Thanks to everyone that answered! I really appreciate it.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but interesting nonetheless.

Wal-Mart is a silly corporation without any union representation for their workers. However due to many accidents in the past you are required to take company mandated breaks at a certain time interval based on how many hours you're working that particular day. I don't remember all the specifics (as I always worked 8 hours) but I was required to do a 15min break between my 2nd and 4th hour and clock out for my 1 hour lunch before my 5th hour of work. After clocking back in I was allowed a 15 minute break between my 6th and 7th hour of work. Wal-Mart also does -NOT- allow overtime and it's the workers duty to bring up any issue to their supervisor if they're getting close to lunch, hitting 8 hours in a single day or reaching 40 hours in a week.
Okay...

The point still remains, a business isn't going to send their employees on break during the busiest time. They'll schedule around it.
