Nothing special, i know of Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland and England, comprising the unholy union that is called Britain. (UK if you still call them that, they don't have many colonies left).

I'm Scottish and a couple of my cousins lived in Wales for quite a while. So yes I do know that it exists and what I have seen of it has been quite nice.

Went to Wales for my Aunts wedding 9 years or so ago. Seemed nice enough, lots of hills and sheep from what I remember. Welsh is also one of the stranger languages I've heard. All in all a pretty nice place. Salutations from Canada.

I've never heard anything about Wales; no drunken incidents, no vicious murders, no bombings or anything. Which leads me to the conclusion no-one gives a fuck about Wales, not even the Welsh.

I live in North-East Wales and the signs into my town have "Historic market murder town" written on them. Murders happen just as often as the rest of the UK and as for the drinking, well to quote Gavin and Stacey [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavin_and_Stacey] : "We just likes getting pissed".

Oh and yeah I don't care about Wales =)

OT: When on holiday in the US, saying I'm from Wales got blank looks, as did the UK. Wales is part of England next to Switzerland according to the American I was speaking to....

I know the difference between England and Britain. I was emphasizing that the English have held reign over Wales without notable opposition for so long that it's essentialy a part of England now. I don't consider it to be a member of UK equal to Scotland in significance.

What you do and don't consider significant is entirely immaterial. Its a country and you are a pompous tit.

im partly welsh, so i do indeed know of it. my great grandfather is fully welsh, married a Norwegian, and settled down in Wisconsin.

Wales to me is a part of England populated by people who for some insignificant archaic reasons insist that they are not English and decided to talk a bit differently. I can't remember a single period in history when Wales wasn't ruled over by the English monarchy, so to me calling it a separate country is kind of silly.

WOW. That is a special kind of ignorance right there. Canada, and Scotlanda are technically ruled by the BRITTISH monarchy, NOT english (due to the union of the crowns), as was the US at one point, and I believe THEY felt pretty damn strongly that it wasn't the same country. Wales IS and I believe always been a separate country, and was DEFINITELY ruled from within back when the Celts were in charge.

I know one person who cares about wales. It was brought up whilst I was discussing how I'd conquer the world and he said that him and my other mate would rebel from Wales and the Isle of Wight...Which I doubt would work but at least they care about the little people.

Well my perception of the Welsh as a British person is that they're just there with their little funny accents and the perception that they shag sheep, i've been on holiday there twice as well, it was gray and windy but didn't rain, so a bit like the rest of Britain. Also I have a couple of welsh mates that I make sheep shagger jokes at...They're my best mates so it's all good!

Because there are a lot of sheep. Most of the agricultural land isn't flat enough for cows/ grain. Hence sheep farming used to be a common job. Back in the day. But it's mostly different now. And a sheep farmer, by his lonesum all night long for weeks on end with nothing but sheep for company... well, you get the idea.

I know OF Wales but I don't know much about it. I always assumed it was part of the UK but after seeing this thread I now know it's not. It not even 8 AM here and I've already learned something.
