And from what I gather those Black Templar will be the "tank class". Even tho from the trailers I've seen they use bolters quite abit. In fact I have acouple of doubts on if it really is a traditional RPG. From all the trailers I've seen it might be better described as an FPS with RPG elements.Moonpooman said:I think the only space marine chapter there will be the Black Templars. Its fine for orcs..goblins, and Taurens cause their wasn't any lore saying their can't be.jhamre said:Nobody saw female Orcs, Goblins, or Taurens in Warcraft III but they sure as hell surfaced in WoW. Think of how much fire an MMO would come under if a race was restricted to one gender. What's fun without messing up a bit of lore here and there?Dochand said:As for giving an option to play female Space Marines, couldn't it just be handwaved by saying they're Adepta Sororitas? I know they're not the same, but it would allow people to play as women in power armor.
You need to look at the game from a design standpoint as much as a lore standpoint. Okay, I can easily accept that the lore does not allow for female Space Marines or Orks, etc., but even with the large fanbase that it has the game still has to target demographics. A girl gamer might like playing as the Eldar because they offer female characters, but chances are they won't want to run Eldar forever.AccursedTheory said:Unlike Warcraft, W40K is very specific. There are absolutely no female orcs or Space Marines, just as there is no Brotherhood of Silence, and no Adepta Broitas.jhamre said:Nobody saw female Orcs, Goblins, or Taurens in Warcraft III but they sure as hell surfaced in WoW. According to fluffy, its not just improbable or against the norm, its IMPOSSIBLE.
EDIT: I've been awake for over a day. Can't seem to remember names.
But there is still a skill bar, and target selection.sleeky01 said:And from what I gather those Black Templar will be the "tank class". For the Templar at least you use a reticule to shoot your bolter. Briefly seen at 0:44 below.

That's why the game may be a hard sell. I don't think most of these things are negotiable, so if they have any ambition of this game being a mega-hit of any sort they'll have to figure out a way to appeal to all the right demographics without compromising lore or game mechanics. There's ways, but it may not fit into the typical "X number of classes, two genders each" standard for most MMOs.jhamre said:but even with the large fanbase that it has the game still has to target demographics. I agree. Besides it wouldn't mess it up in my mind since they've changed their own lore before. The only thing is space marines are altered so much women wouldn't really look like women anymore. Even if they had female names you'd still just see a guy with a woman's name.jhamre said:Nobody saw female Orcs, Goblins, or Taurens in Warcraft III but they sure as hell surfaced in WoW. Granted it's a very brief shot of that Templar shooting, but it looked to me like target selection consisted of manually moving his reticule to the target. Just like most FPS's today.Exort said:But there is still a skill bar, and target selection.sleeky01 said:And from what I gather those Black Templar will be the "tank class". I really hope it is not because they are using the same kind of conturl in DCUO...
But that simply wouldn't work. They'd be ret-conning like every piece of Space Marine-related media in the entire IP. The lore is that only male genetics can support the augmentations that Space Marines undergo. I don't think they could change that just to shoehorn in MMO standards, at least not without upsetting (and possibly alienating) the existing fans, who would be providing the backbone of this game's playerbase.Nocturnal Gentleman said:I agree.
