That's dumb....I may have spent over $2k on my army but I will not refuse to play anyone just because they have a smaller army, I bought such a massive army so I would have options, like being able to play in one of my shops many Mega-Battles which we do whenever someone is leaving or coming back or whenever we have this crazy desire to field alot of our stuff.

Don't try to bring realism into 40k, it isn't Realhammer for a reason, were that universe to go forward in time it would fall apart instantly. When you bring realism into 40k you find that for being set 38,000+ years from now their guns are short ranged and inaccurate, their tanks have paper thin armor, and are slow as hell, Furthermore, the Avatar of Khaine is a walking slab of molten metal and is invulnerable to flamers, heavy flamers and melta weapons, but not plasma weapons or inferno cannons (the heavy flamers big brother) please note that most melta weapons are more powerful than any other gun previously mentioned, the ones that aren't don't work.

Yeah, I probably just played with the wrong people but it really killed miniature wargaming for me, I was also "bought" out of playing Magic by the same people so now I just stick to Pen and Paper RPG's.

I'll take your opinions on the combat but I feel that Warhammer 40k is weighted unfairly in favor of Close Range Tactics as pretty much any Close Range Army can annihillate any long range one without much difficulty once they get close enough.

I played warhammer, once, until I realized that it favored people who spend more money, like all collectable games. It's self perpetuating too, as all my friends had $500+ armies and wouldn't play low point games against my $150 army, because they had to justify that money spent, why play a game where you can't use your $70 tank? or your $50 Broad Side...

So hence I now... HATE Warhammer, like I hate Magic and any other collectable game more based on money than skill.

Oh, I also don't like Warhammer 40k's rules...

Hey Warhammer creators... do you know why nobody uses swords in war anymore? Why they stopped using them around the time Guns became reliable enough for mass use? It's because when you charge a bunch of guys with guns... YOU GET SHOT! Unlike in 40k where any Melee Army will destroy a ranged army as soon as they get within charging range.
As ghastly as your post is, I shall reply to you.

Yes, you needto spend a great deal. The purpose of this is to prevent the working classes from overunning our games and stealing everything we neglect to nail to the floor. And as a member of the working classes, I agree with that- too many of us are habitual thugs and criminals, which I blame on
-Rap music
-Immigrants
-Maragret Thatcher.

Also, the whole idea is that 'this is the motherfucking future'. While you clearly have little undertsanding of a great deal of military history, I shall explain this to you- Guns are a recent invention. It was only one hundred years ago that it became impractical to charge across an open battlefield and mete out merry hell at the end of a lance/sabre/club with nails in, and clearly the universe of warhammer 40,000 is no different. Certain units can charge across no-mans land and beat the cack out of their enemies, and certain units can not. While the system is unrealistic, it is unrealistic because games that conisit of sitting at the rear and blasting away at your enemies get boring.

If you want an army that can't assault, get the imperial guard. or even better, the tau- they're even worse fighters than we are!

Also- in modern warfare, close assault is still required to take fortified or concealed posisitons, so it's not as unreal as would be expected.

The challenge is to make sure that they can't, and to have a plan for if they do, once my HQ (Tau army, so I have the melee proficiency of a 2 year old with one arm) got charged by a Hive Tyrant, my response was to charge it with the 24 fire warriors and 8 pathfinders I had within range, suffice to say a bunch of attacks later there was one very dead Hive Tyrant. Later on I decided to start using kroot to handle swift armies like Orcs, just leave them in the back and let the enemy come to me through a hail of firepower.

it must have been a very weak Hive Tyrant then. Took me 50 conscripts and a commissar to kill off a carnifex once (being backhanded by the commissar along with the outnumbering bonus- killed the thing dead in two turns).

But the kroot are the worst counterassault troops in the history of 40K. Which means that the Tau are at a greater disadvantage than even the imperial guard in close-combat.

used to ages ago.
with 3 brothers and no real plan I pretty much have models from every Warhammer army, especially undead, night elves, orcs, lizardmen and bretonnians. Also have a few space marines.

I will admit it only had one wound left (since I had shot it up before it got to me, I rolled well but even statistically that's 67 hits, of which about 23 will hit and that will probably leave 4 wounds (rolling slightly above average) which statistically will kill any model with one wound left, however I rolled freaking awesome and had 26 wounds. Kroot are better counter assault troops than fire warriors are I assure you that, also never underestimate 30 str4 attacks (base) from a bunch of kroot Emperor of mankind forbid I were to do something like buy hounds or more kroot (or both as I like to do) they seem fairly effective against Dark Eldar lords (with a cheese factor of 5 at least) Ork Warbosses and Meganobs, or Chaos terminators and Greater demons (even when they didn't suck), and yes I have killed ALL of those with no more than 10 kroot, not the same 10 kroot but 10 kroot nonetheless. Oh yeah and a squad of kroot will eat your guardsmen's lunch. Admittedly, for me at least, the kroot seem to disregard statistics in favor of winning, but I'm not the only person at my store that has realized that kroot are awesome so it isn't just me.

I've seen 2 carnifex(es,i, carnifices? what is the plural of carnifex?) die to las pistols, so weird happens.
