Hello friends,

So i recently revisited Max payne series and replayed them again. all 3 games. Original is still masterpeice dispite its visuals are aged. then went to Max payne 2. I remember long ago i was so disappointed by this game as it was inferior to original in every way except it has nice physics. its level design is far worse, its atmosphere is less gritty and dark, gameplay was step back as it has automatic bullet time mechanics instead of gain bullet time by killing enemies, story is worse as max is no longer lone revenge thrusting, he is nypd detective which feel generic to me and have shitty love story except ending was awesom. even soundtrack are worse except main theme.

It make me realize that why this game getting so much loved when its shorter than original, easier, more simple and have less atmosphere??

Many people think Max payne 3 is worst in series. even i initially didnot liked it at first but i gave it second try and loved it. it has better story than 2, bring back original bullettime mechanics and most challenging game in series too. cant say same about MP2 which is enjoyable game but worst in series by far. The way i see, its in the category of Deus Ex IW, FEAR 2 and Crysis 2.

so what you think my friends? lets discuss

No. Not at all. Not even remotely close.

I'll be blunt here, but I feel that anyone who genuinely believes that has either experienced a universe of games so limited they can't even begin to make that kind of judgment, or they got bonked in the head a few too many times.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Max Payne 2 was awesome, your just wrong. Max Payne 3 was fine, but it had too much forced story, I don't mean its story was bad, but you couldn't replay it without having to rewatch all those cut scenes even just playing the arcade mode, unless that got patched out.

It was the best part. I really enjoyed how she and Max interacted with each other in a semi-co-op gameplay style.

The inclusion of the female made the game better in every possible way.

Lol, this sad shit again. I know it must hurt like hell that virtually everyone with any real knowledge of video games thinks that Max Payne 2 was where the series peaked, but you'll just have to suck it up and accept it. Max Payne 2 is literally better than 1 in every way you could imagine, and only graphics in Max Payne 3 are better than Max Payne 2.

Mona Sax says hi, by the way

Seriously, she is one of the most underrated characters in all of gaming, IMO. Most Max Payne characters are, Max included. But she is especially underrated.

They even gave her a different set of cool animations. It was an awesome level.

Mass Effect 3 was supposedly some kind of crime against free will (wouldn't know, still haven't completed the first one).

Square Enix's Samurai Legend Musashi, the re-imagining of Squaresoft's Brave Fencer Musashi, was so terrible that I still have serious doubts about the upcoming Final Fantasy VII remake.

Red Faction 2 was the first game I played through that had a good/bad morality system.
It was also the first time I thought, I'm sick of morality systems.

Alundra 2 takes the grim story and semi-open world of Alundra and... replaces it with a trio of team rocket rejects, clockwork whale, and an unconvincing wooden puppet replacing a king.

Streets of Rage 3 makes almost everyone able to block in an arcade brawler, then locks off half the game unless you play it on hard mode. You think bullet sponges are annoying? Try beating one to death.

you mean the game is far more easy? even more shorter? less atmospheric? worse story? no slow mo bullet time instead you are still fast but enemies are slower, automatic charge bullet time?

Plus i dont like the look of max in second game. sam lake character model was far better. even MP3 james mccaffey model is too badass.

come on, im replaying all 3 games again. and still found MP2 the worst of 3.

The original MP was better in every way and only think MP2 does better is physics. MP3 was huge step up to MP2.

I read these so-called arguments of yours a dozen times already in various different sad attempts. No matter how hard you try, Max Payne 1 and 3 will not magically become better than the second one. Too bad, so sad. Get over it and move on.

Passos can suck it.
Also why on earth do you think anybody would take you seriously when you come in with bullshit criteria like calling female protagonists a "problem"? Or the fact that you sign off every post with "discuss" but never actually do so?

Where are you getting this from? It was rainy, instead of snowy. If anything I found that MORE atmospheric since I live somewhere IRL where it rains a lot but never snows.

If you mean the levels themselves, then I have to disagree again. MP1 gave us levels such as 'generic apartment building', 'generic dock/shipyard', 'generic military base', etc. But MP2 gave us levels like the funhouse, the derelict building that starts blowing up with you still inside it, and the police station with its various characters and funny conversations and lines of dialog.

This just in, B-Cell makes a lovely dish we like to call "new topic!" What are we in for this time ladies and gentlemen?

It looks like a doozy here folks, it's a topic about X thing being the "worst" of something ever! We've never seen a dish like THIS before! What kind of content are we looking at for this one?

Well, seems like we have a bunch of personal opinion and a lot of smack talk of other games in the series! Man, what record breaking, press stopping content we've got on our plate. I'm gonna need a bigger fork to chow down on this topic, let me tell ya!
And what's this? OOOHHH NO! It seems to have retreaded discussion value that's been done many times before! Oof, that certainly under seasoned the dish. But can he make up for it with a very much well thought out and clever worded post that whets the appetite? Well, unfortunately it's as clear and concise as a plate of lumpy mashed potatoes. But even those can be done right, as long as they're not like the ones you get in a powdery bag!

OH THE HUMANITY! It's worse than we thought! It even has one of B-Cell's arch enemies... female playable characters! That certainly is a rotten potato mixed into this fluffy plate of mash...

Why discuss? You keep asking the question. But you never listen to the replies.

And to make matters worse, the milk we added to the mash is spoiled too!

Well everyone, I think that about does it for the weekly cooking showdown. Sadly, all I can do is give this dish a failing grade. Cause at the end of the day, even if it weren't spoiled all over, it's still a plain, old, boring plate of unseasoned and lumpy mashed potatoes that we've eaten time and time again. And clearly the chef thinks his dish is perfect, cause he never thinks of adding any salt.

See you next time, folks!

Child, you lived a charm life if THAT'S your idea of a bad sequel. Yes, I didn't like 2 as much as 1, but the game it'self was still good.

No, B, MP2 was at least finished and made sense game play wise.

BLOOD 2. THAT'S a bad and disappointing sequel.

MP2 doesnot have dark gritty atmosphere of original i mean take a look at this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exp3KfqckTw

and this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eq3empnYBk4

Max shine when he was lone wolf revenge thrusting badass. i just hate what they have done with him in 2.

and also this fire mission alone is better than anything in MP2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9F2vdwlF_c

like i said, MP2 was enjoyable game but lack the charm of original.

It's well over a decade since I played MP1 and 2, closer to two decades in fact, but I enjoyed them both. I didn't feel the story, gameplay or anything else was worse in the sequel, let alone markedly worse. I don't understand your complaint, to be blunt.

[edit] In fact, having had most of today to ruminate about it, the only thing I really disliked about Max Payne 2 was the way that (spoiler alert, I suppose) just about everybody Max has met in either of the two games pops up to double cross him (because in the mean underworld, everything's connected, yo) as a mini boss fight. Most of the other differences between 1 and 2 are a matter of taste rather than objective superiority/inferiority, but I can tell you MP2 benefits hugely simply by dint of NOT having multiple sections where you have to tightrope walk on a trail of blood while a baby cries on loop in the background.

As an aside, thanks for reminding me to replay both of them at some point, and also fire up Max Payne 3 which is sitting in a stack on unplayed preowned games somewhere.

Contenders for Most disappointing sequels:

-Final Fantasy 13
-Metal Gear Solid 4 and 5
-Mass Effect Andromeda
-Thief: Deadly Shadows and/or the Reboot.
-Fallout 76

MP2 has a few flaws, but it's hardly a terrible sequel or MP game, even if I happen to like the first one better.
