Are there any games bar Homefront that you thought were onto a great thing.....until they actually released and the entire concept that originally sounded so awesome looked, sounded and played crappy or not to your expectations?

Read further if you are interested in my opinion of Homefront, otherwise just answer the main question:

The problem I found with Homefront is that, despite my own personal boredom of America being attacked all the time, it looked like it was something I could attach to, starting off a game under oppression, seeing those around you, not JUST emotionless boring NPCs, but genuine characters you are related to in the game getting killed before you and made to be an example of what would happen if any chose to form a resistance. The game should have felt like a STRUGGLE, and an uprising as you convince more people to join your cause. While the concept of saving America yet again despite the fact I'm British is pretty generic, this game looked and seemed original in a new sense, in the sense that there is always pressure stacked up against you, people are relying on you and you are determined to fight for your cause, despite the fact that friends, comrades and other main charcters (a feat not seen often in games for some reason or another) die around you in emotional scenes, making you all the more determined to eliminate the oppressors.

What annoys me is not so much the fact that Homefront didn't quite live up to the mark of other FPS (voice acting was meh, gameplay was meh, plot was meh etc etc) in general it was a pretty fun game and if judged on its own, it could be a game at least worth your time for humour, over the top action and good multiplayer options, its a good game, don't get me wrong, but that's all it is, just good, not particularly memorable or epic, what annoys me is that they had superb source material, had a superb concept that not many FPS's have identified with, I want to be an "underdog" for a change, not just a pumped up supermarine, I want to feel the same way the rebels in Lybia feel right about now, but in my games.

So yeah, thats my opinion, feel free to tackle me.

I belive that Mindjack had alot of wasted potential. Also Fable 3 disappointed me, but that might be because it plays exaclty like fable 2 with stricter combat.

Its hard to think of stuff like this when atm all I do is play games ive had for years now.

Animal Crossing Wii. It could have been a good evolution of the series but instead they decicded to do a complete copy of the ds game.

Alpha protocol.
If the combat had been smoother and the AI less broken it would have been a much better game.

Then remove the hacking minigame and so some bugfixing and you'd have a great game.
Didn't happen.

Fallout New Vegas had a lot of potential to be amazing, but it just fell short of it's predecessor. I can't quite put my finger on what it was really missing, but like many games the most obvious thing that just made me bored were the long loading times.

Army of two, it just felt like so much was missing, but, it had an awesome concept.

I agree entirely on Homefront. I think what would make the experience redeemable would be if they released a sequel. In between 1 and 2, a coalition of states in the world fight back against Korea and bring the fight to their doorstep, and now you're playing as invading soldiers, watching your own people committing atrocities to the enemy's civilian population. I think that'd be a truly amazing (if harrowing,) experience, and would be well worth the initial investment of the first game. But I'm assuming that if there is a sequel, it'll continue along a similar thread of "the West is good, the East is evil," or something like that, which is unfortunate.
