About once every two years I fall for a phishing attempt. It is usually when several months have ellapsed without any phishing, and for whatever reason I'm just caught in a wrong frame of mind. Sucks to have to go around changing your password, particularly if you have one that you like.

What company EVER asks for your password? None, because they KNOW it already, seriously if you give over your info you might have deserved it. That's like giving your social security number to someone over the phone who claims to be someone from the government.

My WoW account was hacked last year, and ever since I have been bombarded with scam emails. Often I get 5-6 a day.

Seriously people, Blizzard Authenticator; Get One.

Strangely enough, I have been getting scam emails, with the "sent from" address listed as "@blizzard.com" I don't know if they somehow got a hold if a blizzard email account for scamming, or if something in Hotmail allows the sender to specify a different "from" address or something, but it's weird, and scary.

Anyone stupid enough to fall for it, I will laugh.

It's kinda basic really

You'd be an idiot to fall for one of those e-mails...

I suppose the same people have been donating money to a prince in Nigeria.

These scams are honestly pathetic... but somebody has to be falling for them otherwise nobody would try.

I keep getting spam about my battlenet account, it's a good thing my hotmail learned how to place it in the junk folder :)

(Although it put a LRR email there at first and I was scared as I nearly deleted it)

I started getting these emails on the same day I acquired SC2. I was a bit impressed that the scammers are that quick.

Ha, You're just trying to scam me out of me free copy!

Next you'll be telling me I'm not next in line for the throne of Zambia...

Another to watch out for is supposed warnings that your account may have been hacked and in use, and sold, and is gold farming. Do not touch the links no matter how legit it feels. Just go to your battle.net or WoW account and check. It wont hurt to change the password in the process either.
I hope these dorks get bored with this soon.

Silly, Zambia doesn't have stuffed animals in the royal line. They are all purple hippos. Ya gotta know these things!

Well, that didnt take them long. Suppose as long as people dont actually fall for it, and just use common sense should be ok...but...common sense sometimes...

This kinda makes me want to make a battle net account made just to screw them.

But I don't care enough.

You wouldn't respond to the guy that keeps emailing you about how you just won the email lottery, would you? Or the foreign national that says he's going to give you $100,000 if you give him $5,000 to release the funds, right? Right? I hope you just said no, twice.
Oh yeah, they can't fool me!

I got a very legit looking one from [email protected] on behalf of [email protected], but the battle.net mail is the one that is most prominent in the 'From' field. It says my battlenet account has been locked but I ignored it since I didn't seem to have any problems.

It's way too suspicious to risk, even if it is legit.

You can spoof the from-adress of email if you know what you're doing, it's not -that- hard actually.

Have a look at the other email headers and you'll most likely see something strange there (gmail, hotmail, some other freemail service being mentioned is usually a good indicator). Most modern email clients hides the more technical headers per default, but there's generally an option that will show them to you (though you might have to search around a bit for it). I always go look at all of the email headers when I get something like this.

I love those phishing email. The best part is they come to all my e-mail addresses except the one that actually has a B.Net account tied to it. Silly account ninjas.

Then again in my beautiful country lately there is actually a case in court about in game theft. Wonder how will it end up and if they will treat stealing virtual items same as real theft.
