I'd suggest borrowing and trying out various models in various calibres until you find one you really like, then buying one of those, instead. A .22 through the back of the eye socket does a heck of a lot more damage than a .50AE that missed, after all. If you're fifty times better with a particular model of 9mm than with any .45 or vice versa, you're better off just getting that.paypuh said:One of these days I'm gonna get a .45 pistol, but they are so expensive. I'm thinking maybe I should start with a 9mm and work my way up. At least I could get used shooting at the range before I make my step up to a bigger gun.

It's potentially lethal a mile away, fired from a rifle, and that's just the .22LR. The police marksmen here use .22SSS from appropriate rifles. It's squirrel's-eye accurate from the right weapon and holds its energy a lot better than a supersonic bit of foil. It's also, from the right weapon, quiet enough not to prevent you hearing and identifying the other intruder and/or the family member moving around just after that first shot in a confined space without ear defenders. Let off one .44 Magnum under those conditions and you're hearing nothing but one high note for several minutes. The ubiquitous .22 Long Rifle is used in a wide variety of revolvers, semi-automatics, and even derringers and single-shot target pistols, not to mention rifles. It is not terribly effective as a handgun cartridge, since it needs a rifle-length barrel to get up to full speed; still, a lot of people are killed by .22 pistols every year.
As mentioned before, the .32 auto is a rather anemic little item, not taken generally seriously as a defense round, though admittedly a lot of people have been killed by them.
It's one of them. I'm in the Adrian Empire. It's not as well known as Society for Creative Anacronism (SCA) but it is world-wide with kingdoms in the U.S., Australia, Canada and several countries in Europe.Artemis923 said:Hrrm. Is your group that live-steel thing?dukethepcdr said:I'm in a Medieval reinactment society so I have several weapons in my bedroom. I've got a real bow and a quiver full of arrows. The arrows have target points on them but I could switch them out for hunting points if I wanted to. I also have a real hand and a half Norman style sword that is currently blunted for use in real tournaments. I have a grinder and could sharpen it to a razor edge since its made of the right kind of steel for holding an edge. I also have a katana that is already sharp. It's just for decoration and "shadow fighting" practice as they won't let you use really sharp weapons in tournaments in our group. I've cut through watermelons, 2X4 boards and such with my katana. It's fun.
Maglite flashlight. Legal to carry in your car too.crazyhaircut94 said:Out of the things in your room, what serves as the best weapon? Probably my Ibanez guitar, it's not too heavy for me to lift over my head.
