Edit: I've said this in other places, but it's amazing how unanimous everyone is in agreement that we don't want Bioware touching Baldur's Gate. It hurts to say that, but it's so damn true. Minor characters like Anomen and Nalia would be cut off and sold as DLC and all the classes would be funneled down into the trio of warrior, thief, and wizard in the current state of Bioware.
There is no middle finger big enough, EA.
And as it has been pointed out to me on the previous page, EA and Bioware CAN'T touch it because Baldur's Gate and the rights (which I should have known...foolish) are part of Forgotten Realms and Hasbro.
So in a fit of irony, Hasbro has done the world a service for once by cock-blocking EA.
Even in the absence of that point, I still agree with your sentiment.
If EA had the rights (no matter which subsidiary they assigned to the project) it would inevitably boil down to the same shit as usual: Dumb down the original archetype to whatever they think is popular, make some console the primary platform and base ALL of the gameplay design around that market archetype (cue the mob of assholes bearing torches and chanting "PC Elitist"...).
Then after announcement, but before launch, EA will pretend to listen to and then ignore the cries of the fans of the original series. Launch game, stain franchise, repeat until that developer+franchise is no longer of any value to them, close down developer.
And honestly, that's the EA-cycle. They've been doing that to developers and their franchises/names for over a decade now.
