- In FPS games, when possible, I remove the HUD and Crosshairs.

- In Old school Resident Evil games I organize my Item boxes Top to bottom like so:
Key Items
Health Items
----------- < red diving line thats always there
Weapons

My inventory will always look like this:

Pistol - Ammo
Shotgun - Ammo
Key item - Health item
empty reserve - empty reserve

- Mega Man Games, I never use powers except on bosses, or when the stage requires it.

- I hate weapon attachments & camos. A lot of FPS games these days seem to be a meta game of "how much goofy shit can I put on my gun?" I always use base weapons, and never use scopes except on Sniper Rifles.

- In God of War games, I almost never use the "Rage of "x"" powers.

There's lots of little things I just choose to do in video games, these are just a few.

RPGs in general: A lot of the characters I create are references to stock characters I have used in D&D or are references to my fanfiction. Heck...my Skyrim character I'm using is the ancestor to my fanfiction's main character.

Team Fortress 2: Always play support in some form, either as a Sniper or Engineer. For some reason, those are the two characters I'm comfortable with.

Eh, i hate activated skills and anything with a timer. I usually take passive buffs/automatic effects if at all possible.

(I HATED it, for example, when in Shadowrun Returns they decided to make the Ki-Adept powers castable like spells. IT DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY.... KI-Powers are switchable or always on, dammit)

I still couldn't play as a Ki-Adept in that game to now, one of my favourite "classes"

Also in multiplayer i never play for the win (Yeah i am THAT annoying dude in your team) but i do high-risk/high reward stuntgaming. In my mind i don't want boring/predictable gaming. I want crazy action and fun situations... those can only occur if someone isn't fitting the mold.

I like to see how much I can get away with a run 'n' gun approach in stealth games.

I also always have subtitles turned on in every game, and I don't have any hearing difficulty.

If I die, I never press 'continue', I always exit and reload from my last save because I wanna beat the game with a clean record. I do this even though the game might not even be counting the number of times I've died. I think largely this is also because I'm not a big fan of inching my way across a game. And I try to save the game the least amount of times possible. Again, partly due to the challenge factor, partly due to my fear I'm being graded on the number of times I've saved the game and maybe that will lock me out of some cool bonus.

I don't like just using a typical melee character in games like Skyrim. Either magic or archer, more likely magic.

A side-note, I'm planning on making a melee Fallout character because, for me, using light guns is the "boring" weapon type in that game. I should make an energy weapons character sometime too.

Also, I don't like having characters being really far behind in games in Final Fantasy or Pokemon. Even if I'll never use someone (looking at you Kimahri), I don't want them to be behind the curve.

In any RPG with a male protagonist that you can name, I will always name him Bob.

If there is a female option, I'll almost always choose it.

I OCD reloading my gun. Fired a single bullet out of a gun that holds 5 bajillion rounds? Cover me, reloading!

I always choose the same hair color for my character when given the option. Medium-dark red for women, medium-dark brown for men.

The scroll-through-text/confirm/"A" button is evil, and must be punished by rapidly pressing it, even when not in use.

If given the option, I turn auto-running off, because I find myself, more often than not, holding the dash button down unconsciously.

In games where you use firearms, I ALWAYS have to have a full clip. Having anything less than full gets on my nerves. It has lead me to compulsively reload my weapon after I kill just one enemy. It's gotten me killed countless times.
i am exactly the same!! really annoys me when i reload but don't have enough ammo for a full clip, i have to then go find another weapon with enough ammo.

I always have to play as the sniper/rouge class even though sometimes i'm terrible, although lately in Blops 2 i've been using the bear quite a bit as it's really good for hardcore domination

For a very long time I preferred ESDF over WASD when it comes to keyboard controls, and there are still a couple of older games that I have keybinds set this way. The reason I did this was because for a while I had a keyboard that was set up weird and WASD just didn't feel right. The W was too far off to the left and was really awkward. So I switched to ESDF because it was a little further from the caps lock and because the E was more centered over the bottom row. Plus, with ESDF I could set R to reload and that just made more sense to me. It wasn't until Mass Effect where trying to switch it over to ESDF screwed up too many other things, and I just gave up and submitted to WASD. And I got a new keyboard which made WASD much less awkward.

I do that too.

Additionally when I play old resident evil games I almost exclusively use the pistol. Not because I like it, but because I compulsively hoard ammo for all the other guns. I won't use anything else unless I'm fighting a boss or I'm out of pistol bullets, and even then I'll feel guilty about it.

Rather have turn based combat in my RPG's. You look at all the bullshit that gamers complain about, that one always comes up. Can tell you that there are only a few RPG's that get left alone that have turn based combat still. Always people that say it's ancient and needs to go away. Rather they go away and stop turning every RPG into a mindless button masher. Don't mind either style, I think turn based will always win hands down.
Same here. There are so few modern RPGs that scratch my turn-based itch, it's frustrating as fuck. Might and Magic X comes out soon, though! And the 3DS appears to be getting a lot of them.

As an addendum, whilst I like turn-based tactics style combat like Fire Emblem, or XCOM, I prefer combat systems like SMT or Might and Magic, where you just stand there and wail on each other. SMT: Lucifer's Call/Nocturne actually has my favourite combat system of any game, ever.

Despite Lucifer's Call being my favourite though, I generally much, much prefer first person combat.

I'm not sure it's a "preference" per se, but I really like RPGs that are built around dungeon crawling and exploring rather than plot, too. Final Fantasy I is one of my favourite games in the series, Dragon Quest 3 is becoming one of my top games of all time and I am really loving Icewind Dale.

In fact, nearly all my favourite RPGs are kinda light in the story department, so I guess it is a preference.

I always seem to favour health/HP upgrades over others when upgrading characters. I think it's becauce I hate dying in games so I add more in the odd logic that I'll live longer/survive that bit longer to be able to recover if I have loads.

I also always try have an assault rifle in my loadout in action games. I like the 'security' of having an jack-of-all-trades weapon for any situation, then use the second slot for the RPG/Sniper etc.

I am a boring RPG player, imo. If there is a moral choice, I always do Good side. Also I always go for the standard warrior type instead of trying for a rogue or mage style.

I can never play an evil character in RPGs. The closest I can get is a bit of a dick, but ultimately more light-grey than anything, like only helping someone for a price or what have you.

I tend to use unorthodox weapons/weapon combinations in multiplayer games, such as semi-auto or bolt action rifles instead of an automatic one for general combot, or just a pistol, if only to differentiate myself from everyone else.

I apparent contradiction to the previous point about standing out from the crowd, I prefer being a cog in a machine in large-scale team games like in Planetside. This normally involves me rushing into potentially hazardous situations to heal and revive team-mates and helping to push the frontline forwards.

I always prefer the guy with long sleeves and pants in shooters. I can deal with short sleeves on the top but actual pants must be worn. (Shorts bother me)

While playing RPG's with a carry weight limit, i always have to have roughly 20% space free.

Back when I was younger, I used to obsessively reload if I head even a moment of time. I'm still very concious about ammo.

In RPG's like Oblivion or Fallout New Vegas, I like to collect shiny glowing stuff. I remember Welkynd Stones. Oh god. Oh no, I was addicted to them! I had hundreds! My entire house was full of them! I had a room that everytime you entered the house would EXPLODE when the physics engine would freak out because of all the Welkynd Stones! If there was a way to have a souvenir Welkynd Stone in Real Life, I would buy it.

I'm also the guy obsessed with making things go boom. In Battlefield Bad Company (don't judge me!), I played a specialist - I would sneak into the enemy base, rig the house with the gold chest full of explosives, get the chest to count down and blow the entire house sky high when someone entered, just because I could.

I like games with a really depressing character. Not whiny depressing like hope from final fantasy but oh well shit happens depressing. Like max payne or kane from kane and lynch. Even though the game sucks I felt so much pity for his character. Pity for a character in a game will make me love it instantly.

I also over save resources to the point where they don't get used at all. Like a magic bar or special moves. Im always paranoid that I will need them at some point and that point just never happens.

In Cod my favorite gun is the FAL. Single shot assault rifle that no one uses .
Ditto. I love Bolt-action and semi-auto rifles in FPS games. Specifically, I like them without scopes. My favorite gun in Battlefield Bad company 2 is the SV98 with red dot sight. I'm pretty baller with it, if I do say so myself.
