Fears I had as a child include, but are not limited to

The belief that if I touched a cross I would turn to stone

Those freaky pink singing elephants from Dumbo

Anything shattering

And lastly and probably most peculiar...getting sued.

Like I loved Calvin and Hobbes as a kid and my middle name is Calvin and so I felt a strong connection there. But I was afraid that if I had a stuffed tiger named Hobbes that Bill Watterson would personally come to my house and sue me.

So to get around the copyright I had a stuff Ocelot named Hoebbs, that I still have to this very day.

What I used to be scared of...
Well, I remember when I was little that at the end of a show I used to watch with my parents at night, I couldn't remember it, it was possibly either the x-files or buffy, or was it something else?
Anyways, at the end of some show at night, after the credits the things that show after it that showed the companies that made the show or something, one of them was a train going on a track...I dunno what company or whatever that was, but whenever that was about to come on, I ran the hell out of the room, really! Hell, the buffy little "errgh! arrgh!" monster thing was less scary then that...I actually thought it was funny...

Another thing that scared the crap out of me was a horror movie, forgot the name of it, they had to spend the night in some mansion that was haunted, live the night and they win money I think?
One part the guy who was the security guard who was watching the cameras had his face cut in half or something...I think there was some sort of doctor with blades for arms...I hate my sisters for forcing me to watch that...

I think I was at one point scared of my own closed-eye hallucinations [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed-eye_hallucination].

That is, the visual noise/colors you see at night or with closed eyes, as explained by the link.

When I was younger I'd have really vivid ones that seemed to fly at me. Not so much anymore, but that was probably my weirdest fear.

Dolls. I inherited my older sister's room when I was about 8, and she had about 10 porcelain dolls up on a high shelf, facing the bed. So as I lay in bed at night, I'd only have to look ahead to see those doll faces and their staring eyes...watching...

When I was young I saw a picture of Charlie Chaplin on a back of a book. So I somehow pictured his face watching through our bathroom window. That always scared the crap out of me.

I was afraid that something I saw or heard could be a hallucination.

Mind you, I never had a hallucination, I was just paranoid that I could have!

Necrotizing fasciitis
When I was a kid the Guiness Book of World Records had a show on tv. This disease got featured as most deadly, or most aggressive, or some such shit. Regardless, the host basically just said that infection was possible with a minor scrape. No mention of where this was possible, just that it could happen. Couple that with the pictures of infected areas on people. Needless to say, I cut physical activities on the playground to a minimum for a long time.
I can't imagine why that show is no longer on local tv...

When I was a kid I feared that if I stepped on a yellow kind of grass, that grew in patches, it will explode and because I lived in the countryside it made some sense that it was pretty important for me to watch where I steped.

King Ramses from Courage the Cowardly Dog, creeped the living crap out of me and if I had ever watched the episode after nightfall I would mistake tree branches scraping my window as Ramses.

That was the episode on that one Scooby Doo movie, right? The one about the aliens and the hippie or something. And mining. Augh I sound like a moron. Anyway, I just remember that episode was a bonus feature on the vhs or something, and how it gave me nightmares for weeks. It's kind of funny, now.

I've been super afraid of the dark since I was little. I was actually convinced that my room in my old house was haunted, for awhile. I probably wouldn't be able to sleep up there if I ever went back. Worst part was, really early in the morning, trains would go by and make weird noises outside my window. Urgh.

When I was about 5 I would always sleep in a ball because I was afraid there were thousands of tiny Darth Vaders waiting at the bottom of my bed to stab my feet with their tiny lightsabers.

I was scared to go up stairs when all the lights were off because I thought a vampire would get me.

Short and to the point: What was the weirdest thing that you were scared of as a kid?

Mine was "If I'm outside all alone to long, an eagle will come and carry me away from my house".
I have no Idea what made me afraid of this, and how it even popped into my head.

So, what was your weirdest fear as a kid?
The wind. When I was 7, we had a storm in my town that made the power go out and fell every tree. It left me traumatized, so on gusty days I would run in from recess terrified because of 30 mph winds, I even got weirdly obsessed with the weather channel, freaking out if they predicted the wind to over 25.

I'm over it now, but man did I not make any friends because of it...
