Ah man. I first heard about the 21/12/12 nonsense on a skeptic podcast in 2008. Going by what the internet says, I thought a lot of people believed this nonsense and I was sincerely looking forward to seeing the new-agers and conspiracy nutters receiving a dose of reality.
But as it turns out, while a lot of them talked about it, very few of them actually believed it, depriving me of my schadenfreude. It's not like the Harold Campbell nonsense, where the media could gleefully visit his compound and laugh at him and his silly followers. The true believers have mostly kept to themselves, depriving me of my chance at heckling them (yes I'm not a good person, but in the run up to 2012 I got so sick of hearing about this 2012 nonsense that I really wanted to see some UFO/New-Age/Doomsday-types get their big dose of disappointment).
Oh well - I'll content myself with a visual image of some bearded survivalist glumly realizing that the thousands of dollars he spent on his shelter has come to nothing. As he sadly looks up at his calendar reading the 22/12/12, he'll sadly remark "All those canned beans.... what will I do.... with all these canned beans?"
