Lemme cut to the chase here.
Opened Steam up, immediately went to my library
EVERY SINGLE GAME WAS UNINSTALLED
Games I had installed were greyed out, everything installed gone. I checked my hard drive: hopped down to 200 GB free. At the same time, my Steam treated showing TF2 items to other people like a big deal again. Any help with this?

Contact Steam Support. I doubt you'll be able to get your games back without re-installing them manually, but if it's a problem with Steam you really should let them know.

So the games just up and uninstalled themselves?
I agree that this is an inconvenience, but it's not that bad, since you didn't lose the games from your account, right?
EDIT: Disclaimer: I don't use Steam, so please correct me if I'm out of line in my reasoning.

It's just a jump to the left. And a step to the riiiiggght.
Put your hands on your hips. And bend your knees in tiiiiggght.
And it's the pelvic thruuuust... that really drives you insayayayayayayane.

Let's do the time warp agaaaiiin. Let's do the time warp agaaaiiin.

So hey, is your internal cmos battery up to snuff? If it's not then one tiny, incy wincy, power outage could happen and your computer would think it's back in the days that it was first created.

No... that's not right, your programs might not be authorized but they wouldn't have been uninstalled. Well, this is steam... maybe? I mean, in the very brief span between when your OS was loaded and the Time Server got ahold of your clock, Steam might've decided that programs you bought in the future weren't allowed and removed them by force.

I'm just going on a hunch here.

I just spent five minutes sitting here and singing this in my head. I did not question its relevance. Not once. It's still playing. Help me.

I blame Valve and their magical time travelling hard drive fairies.

It's all just a front for a major conspiracy. They want all the lemons, ALL of them.

I hope someday Steam gets what it deserves and gets destroyed/improved, right now its like a virus in your computer or something, and worst of all people actually aprove of this! (Ok maybe virus is an exageration... but still)

I thought CMOS batteries only controlled system settings (clock, which hard drive to access, bios settings, etc). Can you tell me what Steam checks that runs off the battery?

This isn't a common Steam error, so no, it's not doing this "again".

And "but still" what?

OT: Ow. Did you accidentally switch hard drives? Check to see if the games are still in place. If so, try running them from the folder and see what happens.

Well...

Opened up this thread hoping that it was about wells, and removing stored water sources from underground and found that it was made by someone who doesn't know how to title a thread. You know how long I've waited for a topic on wells? I think I might start one right now, just to get it out there!

What do you mean "but still what"

He said it right. It's a colloquialism... Do we just have different dialects? Where are you from?

He said "Steam deserves to die", then compared it to a virus, then retracted that, and said "but still".

At no point did he explain why he would consider comparing it to a virus.

That's why I asked "'but still' what?"\

I'm from Canada, where words mean things.

I guess you aren't aware that most programs actually check themselves against the system clock on a regular basis. Every file on Microsoft's OS (I'm not sure about Mac or Linux) come with three distinct time-stamps and those time-stamps are used for several different verification processes. Steam might even time-stamp your transactions on it's own server then checks them against the time-stamps and system time on your machine.

Now, that's not to say that I know Steam, for sure, checks your system clock... but I wouldn't doubt that time-stamp verification is in its design. A clue I'm basing this off of is that his Steam Launcher seems to have reverted to old advertisements.

I am missing some key bits of info... like if his computer was factory programmed at a time when Steam was advertising for TF2 items or if something had happened to his account on the server side. I'm just working with the knowledge I have and my best guess is a time-stamp verification issue.

"Ok maybe virus is an exaggeration... but still"

The colloquialism has you fill in the rest from context. It's basically a prediction for rhetorical effect. He basically said "it's not a virus, BUT STILL... [it's pretty bad]"

And as for words meaning things well Colloquialisms are like words unto themselves.
"There's more than one way to skin a cat" has nothing to with the skinning of cats XD

PS Regarding the content of his post... well maybe steam killed his parents idk

I thought the only word that meant anything in Canada was "Sorry". Everything else you just blatantly stole from us or the French. Saying nasty things about Canada is the only thing that's kept England and France friendly for a good while.

But enough cultural stereotypes, onto the issue! Well, it doesn't appear to be like this is a widespread issue. Hopefully your computer held onto the savegames. Mine does, whether I want it to or not, from games I don't even remember owning. Aside from this, it's poor, and very unfortunate, but as much as we'd like it not to shit happens. Hopefully you'll have rolled over and got everything back on it's feet in no time.

Well... it's probobly a one time thing, and pretty rare. If anythings going on, they'll get to work on it, and it'll be done in a few days time.
