Opened Steam up, immediately went to my library
EVERY SINGLE GAME WAS UNINSTALLED
Games I had installed were greyed out, everything installed gone. I checked my hard drive: hopped down to 200 GB free. At the same time, my Steam treated showing TF2 items to other people like a big deal again. Any help with this?

Doesn't seem like there's much you can do other than re-install the games you want.

Contact Steam Support. I doubt you'll be able to get your games back without re-installing them manually, but if it's a problem with Steam you really should let them know.

No. They just uninstalled. It's 200GB though... So it's a big deal. Lol

No... that's not right, your programs might not be authorized but they wouldn't have been uninstalled. Well, this is steam... maybe? I mean, in the very brief span between when your OS was loaded and the Time Server got ahold of your clock, Steam might've decided that programs you bought in the future weren't allowed and removed them by force.

I'm just going on a hunch here.

I thought CMOS batteries only controlled system settings (clock, which hard drive to access, bios settings, etc). Can you tell me what Steam checks that runs off the battery?

I guess you aren't aware that most programs actually check themselves against the system clock on a regular basis. Every file on Microsoft's OS (I'm not sure about Mac or Linux) come with three distinct time-stamps and those time-stamps are used for several different verification processes. Steam might even time-stamp your transactions on it's own server then checks them against the time-stamps and system time on your machine.

Now, that's not to say that I know Steam, for sure, checks your system clock... but I wouldn't doubt that time-stamp verification is in its design. A clue I'm basing this off of is that his Steam Launcher seems to have reverted to old advertisements.

I am missing some key bits of info... like if his computer was factory programmed at a time when Steam was advertising for TF2 items or if something had happened to his account on the server side. I'm just working with the knowledge I have and my best guess is a time-stamp verification issue.

The colloquialism has you fill in the rest from context. It's basically a prediction for rhetorical effect. He basically said "it's not a virus, BUT STILL... [it's pretty bad]"

And as for words meaning things well Colloquialisms are like words unto themselves.

I thought the only word that meant anything in Canada was "Sorry". Everything else you just blatantly stole from us or the French. Saying nasty things about Canada is the only thing that's kept England and France friendly for a good while.

But enough cultural stereotypes, onto the issue! Well, it doesn't appear to be like this is a widespread issue. Hopefully your computer held onto the savegames. Mine does, whether I want it to or not, from games I don't even remember owning. Aside from this, it's poor, and very unfortunate, but as much as we'd like it not to shit happens. Hopefully you'll have rolled over and got everything back on it's feet in no time.

Well... it's probobly a one time thing, and pretty rare. If anythings going on, they'll get to work on it, and it'll be done in a few days time.
