When they are protesting build a barricade around there car. Then go to there funeral show support for the family. Finally have some Lulz as they are stuck in previously mentioned barricade when they go protest some other funeral.
Do this. Make sure you get with some people, especially the police, to help coordinate everything. Shut the bastards down before they get a chance to run their foul mouths.

Honestly, this is the best response to WBC I've heard of. You can skip the merciless beating if you like, but we'd all thank you if you didn't.

I respect that you want to support the family and the fallen soldier but if it were me I would stay home. Its too much of a hassle to have to deal with bible pushers and self righteous people. If they show up it would probably be best to try and block them out the best way you can. Just dont touch the Westboro protestors! When people lash out and hit the protestors well thats a lawsuit and guess who wins......the protester with the camera.
The basics.. You'll just have to gather people and block them from getting too close to the family. knock from door to door and organize a counter protest. Also, ask local police if they can help maintain peace. See where it goes from there

Could the WBC possibly have an ulterior motive? I mean think about it. Everyone hates them. Literally everyone. The entire world is united in their shared hatred for this one group. Through their refuge in audacity and hatred, they've brought together every race, creed, and color of man. That's pretty tough to do.
Well,seeing as how Ohio has some pretty easy going gun laws,you could just buy a shotgun(which you can open carry without a permit)and hold it at about crotch level for the duration of the funeral.I doubt they would fuck with anyone wielding a shotgun,but if they do assault or physically harass you,you'd be within your rights to blow their fucking heads off.You should be okay with the law,what with the Westboro Baptist Church's current popularity and lovability you'd be back at home in no more time than a pleasant afternoon and an early evening stroll to the movies to see what film MovieBob has critically praised recently.Oh,what jolly good fun a shotgun,lenient gun laws,and an obnoxious hate group can bring you!

Try altering it to reflect your personal views, and don't try to make a big deal out of it. Just hold it, so they can read it and get the message.

First thought: drive by paintballing.
Paintballs don't kill, just don't aim for faces or children. A truck/van full of paintballers, in full gear so as not to be recognized, with the plates removed. From out of town, if possible. You can't sue if you can't identify.
Second thought: that's insane, collateral bruises, they'd find someone to sue anyway, dangerous, don't do it, etc.
I'd suggest a wall of people to physically stand in the way of the WBC. They can't get through without shoving, and if they do YOU can sue for all their campaign funds. If you can't get people for that, go for a counter protest. It's been said by others here: Funerals are no places for counter protests, but funerals are also no place for the WBC.

Or, just ignore them. Directing hate their way creates righteous indignation on their part, which they channel into more protesting. Completely ignoring them should frustrate them and make them angry, but not cause the same sort of righteous indignation.
