I'd say games like Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire are all Western RPGs but I'm not entirely sure that's what you're looking for exactly.

You never really specified. Just "games like" and none of the games I mentioned are played from the first person perspective.

Even though it would be grossly inaccurate historically, since Indians and cowboys rarely actually fought.

Ah, then Bioware is a Canadian company, which is, obviously neither the US or the UK.
Although Wikipedia tells me they opened a studio in Texas which is just as American as anywhere gets.

Oh, and Bioware was behind the games I suggested.
I still suggest them because they are all good.
And Baldur's Gate too, but that was already suggested.
