I was going to recommend the WildArms series, since the title and topic confused me.

Your best bet is to look up developers. But if you want a good rpg that isn't turn-based, perhaps you should look up DarkCloud one or two, two being better.

]I'd say games like Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire are all Western RPGs but I'm not entirely sure that's what you're looking for exactly.

You never really specified. Just "games like" and none of the games I mentioned are played from the first person perspective.
games developed in america and uk.
Ah, then Bioware is a Canadian company, which is, obviously neither the US or the UK.
Although Wikipedia tells me they opened a studio in Texas which is just as American as anywhere gets.

Oh, and Bioware was behind the games I suggested.
I still suggest them because they are all good.
And Baldur's Gate too, but that was already suggested.
Yeah. Texas!!!!!

anywho, TES series, fallout, fable, Jade Empire... mostly what roguefrog said

All this time I thought the world was round.
I hope you could detect my sarcasm.
I was following up with my own blatant humor.

Oh, more in topic with the thread though not at all a North American rpg, you should check out anything from the Tales series. Now that was a different brand of fighting.

Planescape: Torment, Wizardry 8 and Jagged Alliance 2.

Wiz8 and JA2 are turn based but are less influenced by JRPGs than Bioware games. Wiz8 may appear to be a bit JRPG like but only because Wizardry started the whole JRPG thing. I'm sorry to break it to you, but the traditional western RPG is turn based. Combat in PS:T is real time but nobody plays this game for the combat except to ogle at the spell animations. It has some Biowarian JRPG influence but is much more influenced by the oddball western pen and paper setting it uses.

I think western RPGs are better generally because the the characters look more realistic, instead of all being androgynous boygirls carrying gigantic swords fighting against the Evil Empire, and more importantly western RPGs tend to have realtime combat. Games like Mass Effect and Diablo 2 instantly come to mind, where you can have a really awesome RPG with a good combat system. Mass Effect's combat system wasn't great, but you had teammates and it was realtime so it was good enough for me.
Some JRPGs do realtime combat, but it's usually like giving your guy a command and he goes and does it and then you tell him to do it again and you're not really controlling him. Nicer than taking turns, at least, but this usually involves random encounters. I hate random encounters, and though it's nice to be able to fight realtime in a random encounter, I would rather have the battle start more seemlessly.
GOOD JRPG combat systems, like Secret of Mana, have you engage enemies dynamically without having to go through a "YOU JUST ENCOUNTERED A GROUP OF ENEMIES!" fadeout of some kind, and you have you full control of your character, although when someone does a spell it freezes time and you can't dodge it. And that's how RPGs should be: Enemies are a part of the level, and you fight them like you would in any other game using realtime combat with full control of your character.
Like Diablo 2.
That is a damn good game.
