What are you a fanboy about?

I used to be, and I guess I still am, a huge fan of the X Series. Starting with X2:the Threat, I've poured a lot of hours into the games despite their flaws.
The most recent one, X:Rebirth, was a pretty low blow, though. Being almost unplayable at launch, it quickly got a 30 something metacritic and lost most of it's playerbase. By now, most of the errors and glitches have been fixed, gameplay and performance have improved, and it's a rather nice game if you can get in a slightly different mindset than the older titles and relearn the mechanics, but most people just can't. The community has turned into a small group of bitter veterans and trolls picking on an easy target.
I still kind of like it, which propably puts me at the top of that game's fanboy rating.

I'm never actually sure what fanboy means, so I looked it up. Apparently, it's just a male who is especially obsessive about movies, sci-fi and/or comics. So, basically you like something a lot! I was always under the impression that it meant you were so blinded by your love of something, you simply refused to see any flaws it might have.

Going off of the official definition though, I am a fanboy of:
Lord of the Rings
Elder Scrolls
Mount and Blade
Kingkiller Chronicles
A Song of Ice and Fire
For the most part, comic book movies in general.
Hockey
James Bond

I you have ^this^ logo you're destined to be followed by me to the ends of the earth. I will buy into all your fun ideas. You will be considered by me as THE SAVIOR of our tainted medium.
Pray with me followers, Umbassa.

Other than that i've been know to love and defend everything about:
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
Berserk. (including it's video game counterparts of Dark Souls/Dragon's Dogma subtlety inspired by it's greatness)
The Persona series.
Metal Gear.
Marvel.
and Baccano!/Cowboy Bebop.

I'm a fangirl for Gundam. There are the shows which even at their worst are the best of anime. There are the games even though most of them come out exclusively in Japan (damnit!). Not to mention the model kits which are pure Awesome.

I really hate to use the term "fanboy/fangirl" as that's usually tied to unpleasant things like "fandom" or "ship wars" as well as the fact that whatever I'm a "fangirl" of means I can't handled criticism or differing opinions.

That being said, I'm EERILY CLOSE to being a fangirl of the Borderlands series. I too love Batman with my whole heart as well as a handful of voice actors (Troy Baker, Rob Paulsen, Nolan North, Scott Menville and Travis Willingham). I also might as well be a fangirl of Silent Hill, my favouritest series of all time.

By those measures, I'm also a fangirl of Ergo Proxy, Okami and Ed, Edd and Eddy.

EDIT: However, as viciously as I will defend all of the above, I'm also willing to admit a few mistakes about each thing but that doesn't make me love any of the above any less.

Oh, you know, the usual things. Star Wars. X-Men. Lovecraft. Persona. Horror and sci-fi in general. RPGs. Black metal. Grindcore. And all that, and all that.

Black Lagoon: basically the only anime I enjoy, and because of the superior dub. Love the story, love the cast, love everything about it. It's the best anime I've ever seen.

Dark Souls: hands down my favorite game of all time. Other games in the Souls series are good, but this is the best by far. It's sublime. The feelings I felt while playing that were the same I felt when playing Metroid Prime, and Super Mario 64, the first game I ever played in full. It's about hope, and overcoming adversity. It's about life, while simultaneously being the most nihilistic game I've ever played.

MLP:FiM: A ray of sunshine when I arguable needed it most in my life. I can explain why I like it, and why I continue to watch it. I can say how it has genuine appeal and can hold up under criticism. But that just doesn't explain the feeling of joy I had while watching it for the first time and seeing those ponies. I doubt I'll ever understand it. And honestly, I don't care to. I'm just glad it still makes me happy when I need it most.

Katatonia: A doom metal band that's been around a while. I love their music, it's more melancholic and depressing stuff, but it's so soothing and relaxing.

All of these things I am a huge supporter of, and a huge fan. However, it's a personal thing. And I acknowledge the flaws in all of them, be they big or small. Some I'll agree with, others I won't consider flaws. But that acknowledgement means I'm not really a "fanboy" as the term goes. At least that's how I see it.

I will defend Sony from almost anything. And if you say the first Bioshock or the Crash Bandicoot games aren't masterpieces, I will fight you. And just try to tell me Malkavian isn't the best class in WoD.

I guess the last thing I can think of is Chamillionaire. His newer stuff isn't great, but from '05 and back, it's pure gold.

As both a writer and one who enjoys many things, I can't place a favorite fanhood. I can't really fanboy about anything. It's not really in my capacity to gush with uncontainable excitement. I like things, I don't obsess over things. I am an ordinary fan of many things.

I don't know... MLP:FiM? Adventure Time? The entire FUTANARI sub-genre?? Oh wait... They all apply...

Anyway, I am a huge fanboy of the Kingdom Hearts series... I'm always wishing that the complete series of Ed, Edd, n' Eddy gets released on Blu-Ray... Both Rayman and Afro Samurai are my go-to "if I could cosplay" list... I'm still wishing for a Jak & Daxter movie in the same vain as Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper... The Peanuts comic strips, animated series and specials makes up a bigger part of my childhood than most of the animated shows that came out in the FUCKING 90s... And, for the love of glob, I still rank the OG Tenchi Muyo OVA series as my favorite harem series of all time!

Overall, too many to list/reference... and sometimes not enough hours of the day to truly "fanboy" and/or "fangirl" out...

The video game series Earth Defense Force (Except for Insect Armageddon which was a massive let down). I don't know if it's stupid and the frame rate sucks. It's pure distilled joy. The cheesy B-movie monsters, robots and space ships and the straigh forward (But not brainless) gameplay.

It's just absolutely fantastic, in spite of it's obvious flaws.

Brandon Sanderson, he can start putting out 50 books a year and they can be ten pages each and i'll still shit myself over every word. My favorite author of this generation.
Really? The only books I've read from him are Alcatraz. Which he stopped writing so the movie deals could be sealed. What would you recommend I try out? I haven't read a physical book in ages.

If you want something shorter and more complete, check out the Mistborn series. By far the coolest "magic" system, a strong female lead and a well fleshed out world. It's a 3 part "rebellion" story of sorts, in a universe where the hero lost and the villain won.

If you want something more urban, action paced and fun, check out steelheart/firefight. It's a super hero reverse story, where all super heros are villains and humans must fight them.

If you want epic fantasy along the lines of wheel of time and want to read his best work which may be years between each new book then read the stormlight archive (2 books so far, but pretty amazing.) By far my favorite of his work.

He has a ton of other stuff as well.. it's kind of nuts how much he writes a year. Not to mention he finished wheel of time for Robert Jordan when he passed, and did a GREAT job of it.
