What are you afraid of?

Failing at life.
I live in the midwest, in a rather isolated area in which I'm 50 miles from the nearest major city, 15 miles from the nearest town. This puts me in the position of not being able to accept part-time work simply because most part-time jobs cannot pay for the gas it would take in order to reach them. So here I sit, applying to every major retail outlet and factory, getting no replies at all, not knowing what it is about me potential employers find unappealing outside of "he lives 50 miles from us" and therefore not being able to fix what is wrong.

Outside of that, I don't have any of the regular fears - not heights, not insects, not gore, not that hole phobia stated earlier. I'm the guy to go to if a person's afraid a creature might be poisonous in fact, as I am well versed in local species and their dangers, having lived in the wilderness my whole life.

Killer Whales
Sweet Jesus, these bastards terrify me. Seriously I cannot describe how bad this is. If I see a picture of them, I feel sick and have to bring my feet up of the floor and try and stop shaking. It's weird. It's not that I'm afraid of them, I understand that they've never attacked a human being in the wild, but if I was in the water with a Killer Whale... wow. Sharks are scary; I would be afraid if they were in the water with me. Killer Whales would just... wow. Anyway yeah, luckily it's not a fear that really manifests itself often, I don't even live by the coast so the pod that does patrol the waters of the UK doesn't effect me (Of course, I've never been able to watch Free Willy. We had it on video [and probably still do] and I remember not even wanting to touch the case. I watched that Flipper film with Elijah Wood in its place though)
Well shoot, don't watch the video under any circumstances.

I wouldn't say I'm irrationally terrified of them, or they affect in some bodily form or fashion, but I certainly will make an effort to never be around them.

My last and greatest fear is of flying some kind of aircraft or any kind of aero-type of transportation. I believe the term is areophobia. But anyways~ I have always feared airplanes for some reasons. It's quite crippling for me because I always wanted to travel to places in Europe. I literally can't bring myself to ever want to try it the thought is quite agonizing and I dream almost everyday about being in a plane crash. I also live 4 miles away from an airport, so its even worst...I get scared to see them take off..
I am an aircraft mechanic and i can tell you know that air travel is incredibly safe. In fact its probably safer than going for a drive in your car. If you have any questions about aircraft then let me know and i should be able to change your mind

I dont really have any fears. Im not keen on bees and wasps but i wouldnt say its irrational or at all that bad just usually a case of "get this fucker away from me, it might sting me". I think id be pretty damn scared if i seen an ostrich but thankfully i live in the uk

Clowns. Goddamned clowns. Those horrible SoBs scare the absolute begeesus out of me, even at 35.

... also midgets. Proper midgets, not dwarves. Ya know, big head, tiny body. I don't know why they disturb me so much, but they do.

Irrational fears would be Fire or burning. When I was 21 I volunteered at a hospital and had to go into a pediatric burn unit. Yeah I have seen people die before close up and even been responsible for their death before as I was in the US Military. But seeing those poor kids suffering from burns was so much worse. It isn't debilitation like I like fire when I am camping or having a romantic evening kind of thing but I still am afraid of being seriously burned. I drowned as a child and was pulled out of the water and resuscitated so I know what drowning feels like and it doesn't really scare me.

Biggest fear honestly is that I die, not fear for myself but fear for my son and to a lesser extent my wife. She has several chronic diseases like Severe Anemia and Fibromyalgia so she has a difficult time taking care of herself some days and she has a terrible memory and is very scatter brained at times. So if I wasn't around I know things would break down quickly and he wouldn't be taken care of and loved like he deserves. I am his primary care giver and I take care of him 95% of the time. As a child who was abused to the point that I was taken away from my birth mom and adopted to another family I don't ever want that to happen to him or anyone.

Water. This includes video games with water. Like crysis, etc. Heck I was even terrified when I had to bail out of a boat in battlefield 2, so much so that I just opened the menu and klled myself to respawn. Barring that...nothing? I dunno. Nothing else I can think of.

I'm curious, is there any particular reason you have to wait a couple of years before making sure you have it ? Because while the illness develop usually between 16 and 25 in men, it can develop later in life, even at 65 (called late onset schizophrenia).

Sorry if this doesn't help you making your mind at ease.... :p
Just because it's most likely to develop in the 16-25 age range. And also if I get it when I'm 65 I'll pretty much be dead anyway so it won't matter as much.

I'm afraid of heights only when leaning on a railing. I feel way more comfortable standing on the edge of a cliff than I do standing against the railing on the second floor of, say, a mall.

Used to be afraid of moths, but not any more.

Spiders make me uncomfortable. I just don't like the way they move. I don't mind small spiders, as they keep flies away, but I hate huge spiders. It didn't help that one of my workmates showed me this video:

Yap, I would also say that I fear the deep sea "monstrositys".
Just the fact that we don't even know about most of them makes me feel scared somehow.
Just think about it, just think about the Giant "monsters" from the deepest part of the ocean. :p
I'm also afraid of all other "unfamilliar" or should i say "unidentified" creatures, like everything we don't know about and so on..

Yap, that concludes it. I'm afraid of watermellons and my neighbor :D

Death - the lurker, the stalker and the invisible nerve agent. The one adversary you can never run or hide from, or completely prepare for. Something that can end you at any moment without warning. The abrupt finality, the enemy that cannot be conquered or bribed, the great and terrifying uncertainty. The ending that decides where to place itself in your life story.

The waste of a good mind. The triumph of the mob mentality, of blood-steeped and divisive ideologies. The abuse of technological progress for the institutionalization of murder, torture, rape and extermination. Warfare on a global, industrial scale. The self-annihilation of the human species in a Third World War.

Mediocrity. Incompetence. Failure to make manifest my visions and ambitions.

Being unremarkable.

I'm restless, but relentless in my productivity. It can be difficult to carry all these projects alone. I am a very busy loner.

I'm afraid of having TOO much money at one time... That's more money I can handle at once...

I'm also not afraid of what's under the bed... because it's usually me that's under there... (I'm that flexible...)

And to all of the other things that are traditionally scary, I have one thing to say to all of them:

I ain't never scared
(Northside)
I ain't never scared
(Southside)
I ain't never scared
(Eastside)
I ain't never scared
(Westside)

I've got a fear of heights, insects and dying in a car accident or other horrific way.

Heights I'm getting better at but insects can go fuck themselves. Specifically roaches and moths. If it's a big fat roach with wings or a furry moth the size of my hand you bet I'm gonna nope the fuck out of wherever they are. Oddly enough spiders don't phase me, I find them quite interesting. I don't touch them or anything but if they're nowhere near me I won't break into a sweat and try and run from them.

So yeah.. mostly insects. I really really REALLY hate bugs (except spiders)

The dark, heights, myself, aerosol cans, silk, relationships, pressure, finfancial issues, responsibility, mental disorders, large feet, loud noises. The sky.

I don't get out much.

Edit: Drifting out into a void of absolute desolation with no chance of ever being found, losing my free will, being weighed infront of a large group of people, uncannily human robots, smashed fruit, parrots... incompetence, simplicity, being.. average. Normal at something. Infact, being normal in itself is a fear of mine. It's not a grab for attention, it's a personal thing. Oh, and large dogs, Eldritch horror, fanfiction...

Large sea creatures that loom out the darkness and glide silently past you like an asteroid in the dark vacuum of space.

To be fair, perhaps it is more my potential helplessness in such an environment that causes the fear. Anything approaching would come literally out of the blue in eerie silence and be at least an order of magnitude more mobile than me.
Wait, i live near there! OH GOD RUN AWAY!!!!111!!!

captcha: snickers. yes! give them snickers until they turn back into fish!

OT: well, anything that can attack without me being able to defend myself, like sharks.

also, i'm scared of birds. small ones i'm ok with, but seagulls and such worry me, as i panic that they might peck out my eyes. swans in particular, as i read that they can snap your arm with a twist of it's neck.

What a shining example of masculinity i am.
