Started up Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin today.

After Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, and Sekiro I really forgot how clumsy Dark Souls 2 feels. I had replayed Dark Souls 1 remaster a few months ago, but even that, while not feeling fast or fluid didn't quite feel clumsy.

Then I remembered the adaptability stat, and the fact that you had to pump it to 20 before your rolls actually feel decent.

I ended up during Return, which isn't that much harder then purification. On the plus side, you get to kill that fucking SNEK(Or one of them anyway. There's either two or they the "kill" encounter is supposed to be done second and they didn't code for it).
No there's definitely two of em. I'm pretty sure the one in the cave is still there, meanwhile the one you kill is the one you run into early that you have to run away from.

Finished Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, for the fifth or sixth time. I continued my low level runs and finished at level 10 with no party member upgrades. I did KO a few unnecessary enemies because there's some that have a really low chance to flee after using a fright mask, so I would use 2 and then just KO the rest. However, I think that level 9 might actually be the lower limit though.

After finishing Paper Mario I said that TTYD was definitely the better game, but on replaying I don't know that I can really say that. It's a fantastic game, for sure, but it does have some flaws and I really can't say that I definitely like one of the first 3 Mario RPGs more than the others.

First thing I noticed when starting the game is that it really is a massive graphical improvement over the previous game. The characters are much more animated than before and have more expressions. Also the moments where they pour, like, a thousand sprites on the screen at once were pretty cool too. The battle system also had a number of improvements, such as the introduction of the superguard that blocks all damage with perfect timing and stylish moves, which are just fun to pull off regardless of the fact that they fill your special meter faster. Partners being able to stand in front and soak up damage as well as use items added options too. All these improvements don't make the fights easier because some of the new bosses are stronger than any from the previous game.

The reason I'm walking back my praise a bit from before is that there is actually a fair bit of padding in the game. It's quite surprising how many times you will be required to walk back and forth across the entire location to make progress. Sure some of the chapters are better and more inventive than anything from Paper Mario, like Twilight Town, Glitzville (my favorite section from any Mario RPG ever), and the Excess Express mystery, but then there's stuff like Keelhaul Key where it consists of running back and forth across an island 5 times and the Fahr Outpost chapter where you need to literally go to every area in the game again trying to find General White. It's boring. Another problem is that the dialogue doesn't update between chapters as much as it did in the previous game. Nearly everybody in Toad Town had new dialogue every chapter, and most of the characters in the other towns would change a couple times too. However in Rogueport it felt like the characters that updated their dialogue between chapters were the exception and often the new dialogue is the same as the old, with a very slight variation. Like the guy who blows all his money at the casino and every chapter the amount is 100 coins higher, or the guy who's hiding in a dump and always accuses you of horning in on his hiding spot and comments on a different aspect of it's decrepitude. In the first game the random NPC dialogue wasn't 'quite' enough to establish everybody as their own interesting character, but it was close, but here they feel more static than ever, which is a disappointment.

On the other hand, your party members get a few more chances to talk throughout the game than previously and Goombella is a far more interesting character than Goombario. Her tattle descriptions of enemies are more flavourful than the very textbook descriptions Goombario gave. We're still stepping down from Mario RPG levels of characterizations on everybody but Goombella, but it's an improvement from Paper Mario.

The sections where you play as Peach are back and once again form a fun way to break things up, but this time they are upstaged by the sections where you play as Bowser, and do stuff like rampage through sidescrolling levels from Super Mario Bros. and terrorize the NPCs in the various towns. Completely fantastic.

I didn't engage with much side content as a result of much side content this time as a result of my level challenge, but I remember that there is just a lot more than in any previous Mario RPG. Maybe that's why other parts of the game are lacking.

I guess the only other thing I want to talk about is how much I love Glitzville! It was such a fantastic idea to put Mario in a professional fighting arena with all sorts glamour and back stage mysteries. It would have been nice if the extra requirements were a little more challenging to pull off. Maybe the optional second time you climb through the ranks could have been a lot more difficult, but it was fun nonetheless. I would really, REALLY, love to see an entire game made out of this concept, actually. It's always one of my favorite parts of any game that features it like Fable: The Lost Chapters and Oblivion, but Glitzville is the absolute best implementation I've seen in a game.

Edit: Actually, wait. I just remembered something else. Just what is up with the staffing choices on the Excess Express? This is supposed to be a luxury trip, but they have only one cook, and one waitress. Despite that they pay TWO toads to stand at an abandoned station in the middle of nowhere ALL day. Why? Also why is there EXACTLY one blanket per passenger? What if someone was cold and wanted another blanket? What if one was soiled? Is this a luxury trip or what?

Anyway, a great game overall, definitely will replay again someday.

Started Spiritfarer and got about 2 hours in so far. Upgraded my boat a bit, have Summer, Atul and Gwen onboard. Enjoying it a lot so far and nice and settled into a nice gameplay loop. The characters all being animals and apparently Stellas Friend and family is interesting and I know it's mentioned something about their "True Form" or something like that but it's still wierd everyone was presumably human and life but here is a animal with barely a mention of it.

Played Hollow Knight for about 6 hours last night because I've had it on my to-do list since January and I just finished getting through the Dark Souls games, so something like it but not entirely felt like a good step back to normality.

It's good. I shouldn't have to tell anyone here that it's good, but if I do, I'll just mention how the game makes it possible to do a lot of stuff out of order if you go the right way about it and it still feels totally natural and not like you're sequence breaking. That's some good world/level design.

Also, the soundtrack is amazing, and available separately on Steam if 2D platformers aren't your thing.

You probably don't want to watch this right now due to possible spoilers but keep this in mind for later. It's a 40 min look at HK's level design and what makes it work so well. Though honestly the whole BOSS KEYS series is a good watch. It goes over the Zelda series, Metroid and the first Dark Souls game.

The guys who made HK alledgely said they didn't have Dark Souls in mind when they made the game but I'm not sure I buy it. Not when one of the first bosses is a dead ringer for Smough and Hallownest feels like a 2d bug take on lordran(but in a good way)

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Here's the kicker: which one?! ;)

The Gun Carriage or the ManOWar Chariots (two variants)? Seriously though, I get that vibe from all three!
Wait, I thought they just had the Gun Carriage? But.. probably both? I mean the cryx one is like some living machine weapon of which there is like one like the death jack (I think) and cygnars is some kinda high tech prototype that is probably too complex to mass produce, and Menoth is some holy infused thing. Khador's is just heavy armor and a couple big guns on wheels. Its the closest thing they have to a tank, the horses are probably the hardest to replace part of it.

If you need someone to talk with about that game, shoot me a message. You will know when.

OT, playing Planetside 2, Star Ranger, and Cloud Gardens. Still need to beat Horizon Zero Dawn and Persona 4.

A few factions have more than one battle engine, and a few have a structure (what amounts to a stationary battle engine) instead. The Chariots look pretty mass-produce-able too and it's fun imagining large formations of them steamrolling across a debris strewn battlefield.

Still, have a look around and there are some pretty funky conversions of the Gun Carriage (whether into a walker or an outright tracked AFV).e.g.

No prizes for guessing where the tracks came from. -_-

Considering how armor does in 40k I would think the tracks would make it easier to destroy.

The age old debate of what's more survivable in battle: armoured horses; or tracks?(!)
Well Khador horses are strong enough to kick to death a warjack and tough enough to take a hit, so probably them. But, I would also say they are much harder to replace in a timely manner.

Playing through Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin I feel like all of the ambushes are way less fair than they were in the base version of Dark Souls 2.

All of the boss fights feel much easier though. I know that Scholar doesn't do much to change the boss fights in the game, but it's not even like I still have all the boss movesets memorized or anything. So far I've been able to do every boss fight in one try.

I didn't play the base game, only the Lost Sinner(?) and they made it much easier to light her arena then it was before, that much I do know.

Finished the MK11: Aftermath story. Well, one of the endings anyways; will probably double back and see the other tonight. It was well worth playing especially as a big fan of the series. However it’s ridiculous WB is getting $40 extra for it. I know there’s a bunch of other extra content thrown in, but IIRC some of that was free already anyways. Unfortunately it seems to pay waiting until all content is released for these games, since it’s all at the cost of the base game. If you’ve supported the game from the start you’re paying extra. Go figure, and that really needs to change next time around.

Having said that, I thought it was interesting being able to choose the “evil” ending of a time reset. Gotta admit, it was oddly a breath of fresh air to see Shao Kahn and Sindel (they’re such a cute power couple) lay waste to the usual crowd of heroes the games are known to no end for. And then topping it off with Shang Tsung double crossing them, snapping Liu Kang’s legs like twigs and ultimately devouring his soul felt rather...well, unique and liberating in a way, even if it won’t be considered canon.

Although it got me wondering that, as a few others on the reddit page pointed out, both endings could be considered canon if they’re taking place in two different realms. Perhaps if and when they make the next game they’ll merge both endings, because it wouldn’t feel right to outfight disregard either one.

In any case, I still have a ton of friendships and some new stage fatalities to check out, along with who knows how many brutalities for these new characters. Robocop is definitely the most entertaining, but not exactly feeling his play style beyond cheap thrills. Still digging Kabal and Skarlet for mains.

However if speculation winds up true that another Kombat Pack is on the way and it finally includes Mileena, then Skarlet might have to move over a smidge.

But in the base game there was no reason to actually light her arena. The way the lighting was it was easy enough to see her in the dark. I don't think I bothered lighting her arena even once.

Yeah, just like how Swery had never seen Twin Peaks before making Deadly Premonition.

I started re-playing Paper Mario: Sticker Star because I did not feel like playing Super Paper Mario again, but... I just can't do it. I played for an hour before I was completely sick of the game. The music, the sound, the way everybody constantly talks about being made of paper, it completely disgusts me. I don't remember hating the game the first time I played it, but after just finishing TTYD it feels completely soulless. I was planning on doing it without using "thing" stickers, but forget it. I'm not playing it. You can't make me!

Say WHAAAAAAAA?

I haven't even played DP but I know enough it has Twin Peaks written all over it.
Yeah, Swery has claimed multiple times that he's never seen Twin Peaks, which is how we know that Swery is a dirty liar. Maybe he just thought that Twin Peaks is more niche than it actually is.

David Cage is the same way, he blatantly rips off pretty mainstream movies and then claims he didn't.
