I’m actually glad to hear this is shorter than WW2, because I want to finish it and delete it to make room for Cyberpunk: 2077. Kinda sad, but that’s my plan even though I paid more than my Cyberpunk preorder. Idk, maybe it’ll surprise me and I’ll leave it installed. It’s not like I’d be out of space, but I just don’t want it taking up that much space if I’d only play through it once.
Idk how you play call of duty, but you can install and delete the different parts of the game separately to save room. So you can just have the campaign installed if you want, and after you're done with that you can delete the campaign and install the multiplayer, or zombies if you want something to play with friends. I've been having tons of fun cooping the zombies mode with my friends right now and I would definitely recommend it. Just one map currently though, with additional zombies maps currently being worked on.

Overall I'm really happy that this game is way smaller than Modern Warfare was, and I really hope that you'll be able to choose not to install Warzone this time around (once it's out). I don't care for battle royal games at all, and having to have Warzone installed and taking up space is what made me uninstall MW previously with its ridiculous 200 gig size.

Health regeneration on its own isn't bad, but when you have little control over getting hit and no ability to heal yourself it becomes a real annoyance. It's ridiculous that in 5 games Naughty Dog never bothered to fix this and give the player some means to reset the damage/risk indicator any other way besides to sit behind cover and wait for the game to finally heal you.

Nononononooo it’s not a health regen, it’s a luck regen!

As interesting a spin that is on the formula, they could perhaps spice it up whenever they make a new game with Drake’s daughter as the lead by putting a No Whammies! border around the screen that you have to time just right to reset the meter.

No? Well, then I’m at a loss here.

I think it was a mistake setting these games in the present. The idea of a huge lost kindgom in the middle of India, for example, is laughable. As is the gigantic island in Uncharted 4. At least in a historical setting you have the excuse of alternate history. I know it would draw comparisons to Indiana Jones, but I feel like you kind of still have to. Drake's daughter would have nothing amazing left to explore in... 2036? I'm assuming the end of Uncharted 4 for takes place in about 2026.

If they even think about making an Uncharted 5, I am going to laugh hard. I would not buy any way, because I have nothing but disdain for Naughty Dog at this point. Nathan Drake's daughter or not, still never touching it. Maybe if it's an alternate universe I might give a curious glance, but I already know that ain't happening.

As for being in the modern day, ND pretty much said they wanted to make modern Indiana Jones games. Which is what they are. I did mentioned in one of my threads how it's ridiculous how Nathan and friends and the villains seem to only discover these lost civilizations. Or how the villains beat them to certain areas by finding the back exit somehow.

Yeah, I remember that was one of my immersion issues with Uncharted 2 onwards. It only takes one aircraft flying over or a google-earth satellite to tip off the entire world that a MASSIVE undiscovered city exists.

Really, Nathan should be stumbling through UNESCO world Heritage sites teaming with archaeologists.

You can make the excuse in Uncharted 2 and 3 that 'cuz magic' people couldn't find those places through means other than what was required by ancient law or whatever. I mean, I kinda figured Shamballa existed in some kind of pocket dimension beneath the mountains. This excuse doesn't work with Uncharted 4 though, since not only would this non-mystical place with its omninous turtle head mountain be easy to spot, the events that took place on this island were back in the 1700's - With all the people and materials that got transported over there there should be a whole bunch of records about that somewhere, right?

Yeah, that's what I mean. Airplanes. Satellites. Freighters. Fishing ships. 7.8 billion people.

You can make this work either in an alternate past or the very distant future.

It's shocking how many obvious treasures I missed on my first playthrough. Like I wasn't even trying. Or was rushing.

The good ol' TIM Island argument I see. Absolutely agree with you, but Uncharted 4 can sort of wing it on the basis that they were all pirates and stole stuff and that large parts of Africa at the time didn't really do written records so if they sourced labor close to Libertalia, it is entirely possible they could have gotten away with a small colony. Not the magnificent, opulent city we see in the game, but the early wooden houses you encounter certainly.
Yeah, and I'm not holding it against U4 that much, because these games exist in a sort of adventure land version of our world. You're always going to run into that problem when setting a tale like this in modern times, and you don't just want to set it in the early 1900's every damn time either. So it kind of comes with the genre.

And it actually profits from this too, by having character motivations be more interesting and introspective. Because the need to save the world isn't a thing in U4, due to the lack of someone wanting a mystical object to rule the world, it's just a bunch of fools being obsessed. If Rafe wins he just gets more money, that's it. It really allowed for the characters to get a bit more fleshed out.

Even though ironcially the only thing rafe would have won would have been a Booby Trapped old ship which, yes, was full of treasure but would have likely killed him.

I appreciated how Nadine just NOPEd on out of there about that point.

Yeah, but Rafe wouldn't have cared, because he was too busy proving himself NOT to be some spoiled rich boy. His pissy little 'No, fuck you, I'm a badass' behaviour was one of the highlights of the game for me. He's honestly my favourite character in the game.

Just finished Gears of War 5

I had fun. It's a solid campaign. Big dumb fun, well paced with varied locations, a good mix of enemies to fight, lots of weapons to play around with (Retro Lancer still goat tho). Not haute cuisine in the story department, but sometimes an opulently greasy burger can hit the spot. Also, good looking game that runs very smoothly.

Doesn’t Tomb Raider have the same problem? I mean, pretty much the only place on the planet that hasn’t been completely “charted” by man is the depths of the oceans. Both these games take a pulpy approach to historical fantasy settings, rooted in just enough reality to hook the player but ignoring logic enough to let the fantasy half exist.

I think Tomb Raider benefits from being slightly cartoony and fantastic. The real Tomb Raider, I mean. The lack of dialogue helps too. New Tomb Raider suffers from gritty realism and drama against cartoon logic and Mario level collectibles and structures.

And because I didn't have enough games to be working on at the moment already, I decided to pick Devil May Cry 3 back up to stream it to my Discord friends. And despite how many times I've beaten him, Cerberus kicked my ass again. I don't know how much of it is rust and how much is Cerberus just being that difficult. Still a fantastic game, but be prepared for most of its bosses to wreck you a few times.

Did you start on a new game or new game+? There 's an exploit where you can go in a corner and you can just shoot (dual pistols and sniper rifle) him and he'll almost never hit you. Were you playing 3 on Steam w/ the HD collection, or the Switch Edition that comes with Free Style mode.

Wanted to show off what it was like from the very beginning, so NG. And, I don't have the Switch version, so I was playing it on Steam. Honestly, as nice as the freestyle mode is, I don't feel like it's a necessary addition to the game like some people do, even after playing 4 and 5. 3 felt balanced around 2 weapons, 2 guns and 1 style at a time, just like 4 felt balanced around Nero and Dante, and the extra characters in that game's Special Edition kinda just get in the way, to me.

Troy Baker (Sam Drake) is a better actor than Nolan North (Nathan Drake). It's so hard for many voice actors to just sound like themselves. I had to check out an interview with him. Sure enough, he speaks naturally in person.

He keeps his tone continually low while acting. Not deep, just low. Or something. I'm assuming they do it because the voice acting booth and microphone makes them feel closed it.
