I played some Kill La Kill IF. I think this game is still the best anime arena finder, but it does lack in content. I still think it could have used a couple more characters in a roster, even with the free DLC that came with two extra characters. The why they were DLC in the first place is beyond me. I so love the game and I'm glad they're able to get all the voice actors back to reprise their roles.

I played some DmC too. I managed to beat my high score on Mission 20, Gods Must Die. I got a little over 13 million style points and SSS.

No, holding his voice back is a better way to describe North's acting. Like I said, because he feels closed in by the booth and microphone.

I don't know why people were so bothered by Nadine beating up Nate.

They should have been bothered by her beating up two grown, fit men at once (Nate and Sam) later in the game. Sam just got out of prison too, where he spent most of his time reading and working out, from what I remember him saying. Totally unconvincing. Druckmann is so transparent.

The journey through Dark Souls 3 continues.

The Pope is dead. I've passed through Irithyll proper and brought the papacy of Darth Sulyvahn to an end. Which apparently means I'm the new Pope, because if my understanding of Star Wars and God of War have taught me anything, if you kill someone important, you get their job. I'm pretty sure that's how popes are chosen in the real world too.... :) Unfortunately, none of the clerics or Pontiff Knights seem to recognize my new position, so I'll just have to kill them until they understand.

Not as bad as I expected him to be, but I did a few practice co-op battles first. Having Anri alongside as a summon helps a bit.

Also, the Silver Knights are back. And so is Anor Londo. And also those FUCKING DRAGONBOW SNIPERS!

I've also made down to the Irithyll dungeon and that place is just....NOPE. I decided to come back later which is why I've been progressing up through the main city instead.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I just beat Blasphemous and the main campaign of Control (doing aftergame dlc now). Also playing Straimium Immortaly, and Forsaken Remastered. Tempted to finish up Halo 2 on legendary too.

I just finished control too. I loved the world and the bureau but I just didn't care about the actual story and the gameplay was mare by problems (the game is constantly fussing numbers so that most upgrades actually don't matter, big enemies were just annoying bullet sponge and respawning enemy could really screw you up). There's a segment where you just play as some intern in a sequence that's supposed to be a nightmare, but honestly that's the game I wanted to play. You'd start as some lowly intern and you'd have to learn how the bureau and the oldest house work (dealing with shifting room, rampaging object of power and office politic at the same time) and would slowly climb the ladder, eventually becoming an agent and going out on mission investigating all the crazy stuff.

Oh FYI for the DLC, one is pretty much completely focused on Alan wake, if you haven't played it you might want to skip it.

I really like how Remedy does combat, where it never fully feels like you are proficient at it. Like your character is struggling with shooting and moving and such. The intern stuff was certainly interesting and I actually would be down for a game like that also, but I fully enjoyed the combat and having to mix up abilities to deal with the sponges.

I finished the Wake dlc and thought it was pretty cool, right now I'm going to start the foundation which is post game. I think.

I loved Control, it was probably one of my favorite games of that year. The Ashtray Maze being a moment of just pure joy for me, as I went to the Maze before the point you are supposed to, so I was able to see how things had changed. That whole sequence was just wonderful, and had me giggling IRL the whole time.

I've always really enjoyed Remedy's method of storytelling, as it just really speaks to me personally. It always makes me think of the atmosphere of World of Darkness roleplaying games, but also mixed with some campy, goofy shit as well.

Regarding the Foundation DLC, I can't recall if it's specifically designed to be post game, but it's pretty much an isolated thing going on.

OT: Booted up Shadowrun Returns, as I never played that one. Thought I did, but apparently I skipped over it, played Dragonfall, and then started but abandoned Hong Kong. Figured I'd give it a try again, as the Shadowrun/Cyberpunk genre is a personal favorite of mine. Not a big fan of the isometric top down kind of games though. Dunno, I just feel really disconnected from the action most of the time, hard for me to play more than a few minutes before my attention starts to wander.

I think Remedy is probably my favorite dev, I've really liked all their games. I can't think of one I didn't really enjoy. I guess I did only have the shareware of Death Rally. Oh, I did think of one, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, although I'm not sure how much development they did on it since it really didn't feel like one of their games.

I only got the foundation stuff after I beat the campaign, but its possible it would have come up after I did the maze or something and I just hadn't gone back to the central executive. Yeah the maze was awesome, I wandered through there a bit before I was supposed to also and seeing the full thing was really damn cool.

What made you abandon Hong Kong? I really like that one and Dragonfall, never played Returns since I only ever heard it was meh and more of a tech demo.

You're never proficient at the combat because it fudge numbers in the background. Health upgrade are almost completely useless, you can try out kitting yourself fully in health upgrades and you'll die in pretty much the same number of hits regardless (I think most big attack do % damage that gets lower the less health you have, ie rockets will always kill you in 3 hits regardless of how much health you have). I'm pretty sure they also do the same for enemy health, I tried killing the same group of enemy with a gun full of damage upgrade and without and there wasn't much difference.

All the DLC stuff activate a bit before the end game, actually before the maze iirc.

No, I'm not talking about the damage you do or % damage you take or anything like that. I'm talking about how the character moves and aims and shoots. Like you will always shoot at the reticle but it feels like your character is struggling to move their mass as they try to keep aim at it. Its all the little incidental animations they add to it to give it more weight then most games without it being something like a rockstar game where you have to try 3 times to go in a door since you can't just turn in place.

Also, just to talk about how the damage you take works, I'm fine with % damage taken since I don't like just being overpowered in games, I get bored when I am really quick unless there is some other hook for me. Its one of the issues I have with the borderlands games, its way too easy to be overpowered or underpowered but really hard to get that sweet spot.

Yeah I can't recall anything about Foundation that would've clashed with the main story, so to me it seemed to just be another chapter of weirdness in the Oldest House.

As to Hong Kong, I dunno, maybe it was playing it so quickly after Dragonfall? *shrugs* Like I said, those top down, isometric style RPG's aren't really my thing, and I find myself quickly losing interest and wanting to play something else. Had the issue with Tyranny, which I did eventually finish. I'm trying to go through them again now, but I suspect it will take a long time to complete them. I might get a bug up my ass to stick with one for several hours like on the weekend or something, but so far it's been like 15-20 minute spurts before I save and log out to do something else.

So far I'm enjoying the story in Returns, but I'm not very far in at all.

I found the story and characters in Hong Kong to be pretty great, plus they improved the gameplay noticeably for me. I actually have a huge weakness for isometric like that, but I couldn't really get into Tyranny. I think I made a choice early on that bugged me and I kept wanting to redo that part to the point where I just said meh and played something else.

Yeah I had trouble with Tyranny, but mostly because I don't like playing bad guys, and that game is built on you starting out as basically a Mini-Darth Vader in Training for the Emperor, going out to squash rebels in the final holdout of resistance. And....yeah I just don't enjoy that. I had heard that you can eventually resist and join the rebels yourself, which was the one thing that kept me going back to the game. Eventually it became more enjoyable for me, but the amount of "nothing but shitty choices" things they put in my path, where the only thing I'm doing is altering the amount of shitiness in the final outcome, was a struggle. Once I turned sides and resisted the Empire, it was a LOT more enjoyable for me, but still not entirely fun.

Hong Kong, there wasn't anything about it, as I honestly don't think I got very far past the introduction stuff. I just loaded it up one day, realized "eh, I don't feel like playing this right now" and got distracted by some other game, and never loaded it back up. Hopefully I can make it through all 3, and have a more thorough experience, we'll see though.

Ahh, yeah I can understand getting distracted. I still keep meaning to go back and fully finish Persona 4 but... I keep getting distracted.

Yeah, it does irk me, 'cause like I said, I love the genre, and Shadowrun was one of my personal favorite roleplaying settings as a kid for tabletop. I never had a chance to PLAY it, as most of my friends back then didn't tabletop game, but I bought the core rulebook that came out in the 80s/90s era, read several of the novels, had a big ass Shadowrun poster with the Seattle Needle in the background on my wall (it was a take home from my comic book store working days). I loved the blend of magic and future tech, it just tickles a LOT of my gamer/nerd itches.

Yeah totally. I never played the tabletop but I loved most of the Shadowrun games. I must have rented the SNES one like 5 times back in the day and beat it at least a few times. Its such an interesting world and I also love the combination of magic and cyber tech. Its why no matter how good Cyberpunk 2077 is, I will probably always be like "I wish this was Shadowrun."

I did an arcade run on hardest mode in Streets of Rage 4 last night. While I was able to beat my high score, I still did not get the overall S rank. The scoring parameters for ranking on a hardest mode is ridiculous. Even with the patch that makes scoring easier, makes your combos last longer, and gives you extra money hidden breakable items. I was playing as Adam. God I love his dash! Especially when you slide past or behind a tough boss or enemy and combo into them.

Finished Guacamelee! 2.
Sort of kept holding my breath waiting for new stuff and then the game ended. You really just spend the whole game getting all your old moves back in roughly the same order and for the same applications. Five years in development and all they could come up with was a slingshot mechanic and a bunch of lame jokes about how lame their meme humor is. Not that it makes it a bad game, but very disappointing for the squandered potential.

Finally, finally, FINALLY.... picked up Dark Souls 3.

I spoiled a lot of DS1 for myself having watched multiple playthroughs and soliciting help throughout my own, but I still managed to put more hours into it than most things in my life. DS2 was just a chore, a desparate new girlfriend trying to live up to the standards set by an old one, but I slogged through it, getting help when I got tired of grinding or got lost. DS3 will be my first DS experience where I'm going in reasonably blind. I've not watched any playthroughs, and I don't intend on seeking help unless I get cripplingly stuck. Wish me luck...

Good luck. It's honestly more like Bloodborne in some ways then DS1 or DS2.

That being said, so far I like it a lot. I think it and BB are tied for my fav Soulsbourne game. I'm maybe halfway through so my opinion my change.
