I didn't understand your trip and played some Doom PS1 and Tekken 2 in PS1. The former is a pretty good port I find superior to the original PC release. It has its flaws but Midway did a great conversion overall, and it comes to the creepier atmosphere and soundtrack. Tekken 2 It's still a good fighting game, but you can see where it still had some flaws from the previous game. I still love the game for its atmosphere and soundtrack. Paul, Nina, Jun, and Law Have the best stage themes, but they're all bangers.

Finished a couple of runs through Yars Rising. That's my biggest criticism, not really meaty enough. Easy enough to plow through it in a few days. But other than that I enjoyed it. On the surface, it is just a sidescrolling megaman-lite experience. But that is just a framework around a surprisingly deep reworking of the gameplay from the Atari original Yars Revenge. Which in this game is framed as a hacking minigame. The "hacker" is a part of the sidescroller and paper-thin story binding the game together. But no one will care a fig for the sidescroller or the story. This game is FOR fans of the original game, and I can't imagine anyone else enjoying it. To anyone else it would just be a cheap sidescroller with a dumb attempt at a cyberpunk story with annoying characters. AND a weird focus on a hacking minigame that doesn't make any sense.

Wow, that sounds like I hate Yars Rising. But, the thing is... I AM a fan of the original game. In the day it was one of my favorites. I get what they were doing with this game. For me it is a solid 7.5/10. But if you have no idea what Yars Revenge is, i'd guess it would be more like 3.5/10.

Now, back to Dave the Diver.

Turn base RPG, despite their reputation for grinding, are actually really easy. When I first played FF9, I couldn't read english and didn't really understand how the game mechanic worked, so I thought Zidane "flee" ability was just some sort of super strong ability that would instantly kill all enemy (juts not boss) so I used it all the time and finished the game in the mid 30 or so. I was forced to use most of my item, but it did lead to a couple of cool stuff, like you can tent to heal a lot in fight, but it gives a bunch of negative status effect, so you can start a fight and use it on a boss to figure out what status effect they are vulnerable to.
One thing that the FF series does is it kinda equalizes lvl with your characters. So the higher level you are, the harder later game enemies are, its possible to beat at least ff 8 and 9 at like lvl 1 because of how the system works.

I see someone didn't play the remakes.
Indeed I didn't. I just can't see it being as goofy, anyway. Realistic character models must have grounded the game to some degree.

Some of them are, but some of them really aren't. It's pretty hard to win fights when the boss can one shot your entire party. Sometimes you don't have an option but to grind out a few levels. Not that I'm saying FF7 isn't easy, because it is. There are less easy ones out there, though.

Pretty sure that was not the case for 7. The only reason I beat the two headed dragon when scaling the Northern Crater is because Vincent was equipped with an item that absorbed ice magic. Cloud and Red XIII were both one shot by an attack mid way through the fight and Vincent was able to chip away at the massive health pool while getting healed by the boss. It took like half an hour, though.

Just entered Xen. Trying to figure out how to do the long jump. How come Half-Life has so many more enemy types than Half-Life 2? Surprising. Edit: Oh, crouch + jump.

Can see why some people find Alyx annoying after the solitary adventure the first one was.

(If it doesn't load from the timestamp, 49:02) The little smile Cloud gives Jessie after escaping certain death by the power of anime BS - tell me, if that isn't goofy, then what is?

ETA:

(This, probably.)

Its still pretty damn goofy and all the big memorable parts of the original are there. After all they scene where Cloud dresses up in a dress is now a musical dance scene.

It's not the same. The original had a lot of just really weird slapstick. Whatever, if you feel the remake is goofy too, then fine.

Unrelated, but I just really hate Cloud's character design post Advent Children with his poofy hair and dumb blank face.

If you want slapstick then that is what Johnny and Yuffie are for. Also Barret sometimes and RedXIII sometimes.

Back to John Wick Hex. Restarting a level is no fun, so usually I just quit the game altogether, waste on the phone for a few minutes, then reload. That'll do the trick.

It's just a rather unrewarding game. You're alloted coins per stage to invest in modifiers or stash weapons and health ahead, but planning doesn't mean much when enemy numbers and placement are random, and you're not familiar with the layout ahead. There's also litle fanfare between stages. The "plot" is just characters recalling what already happened, so no tension there either.

Well, if you want to be out of this conversation that you started so badly, go right ahead. I'll just be here enjoying two very good JRPGs. And Doom Eternal, as soon as I don't have any people in my house that I don't want seeing the ultraviolence.

Speaking of that, I've actually been spending most of my time playing Rogue Legacy 2 instead of DE for that reason. Managed to get through NG+2 from a fresh start (I already have one NG clear but wanted the fresh start anyway). Definitely enjoying the extra lore that comes with the Prime bosses, and the game actually starting to become pretty challenging as enemies start to kill in only a few hits. It's a great game, and the constant variation works to its benefit I think. Definitely worth checking out.

I am playing Doom (PS1). This port holds up well and it's the best of the 90s consoles ports. I do love the creepier atmosphere the game implores. It's not perfect as there are some framerate issues, but not enough that it happens much often. It is amazing what Midway was able to accomplish with this port.

8 is the only one in the franchise that did that, its a bit of an anomaly because of that.

Ive been playing the Indiana Jones game, the Great Circle. Its better than it has any right to be. You're sneaking about occupied Vatican in a stolen Priest's robes, finding secret entrances to underground catacombs, sneaking up on Nazis but stepping on a lose rock and they spin around and you punch them and bring out the whip and the classic theme starts playing. Its a very organic and real Indiana Jones story and its so fun.

Well, maybe I'll think about it when Square releases all the games bundled on one disk for $30.
I wouldn't normally say this, but in your case: just don't bother. I can say with certainty based on your posts so far that even if you got it for free, you wouldn't enjoy it no matter what.

Beat the GDF campaign in Tempest Rising. Pretty damn cool. Its got some really cool design and missions, story is fine, units are fun and combat is satisfyingly. The GDF as a faction is interesting, they are stat wise, weaker then the Dynasty, but if you macro or setup a nice mix of units then they can hold their own pretty well. GDF also has really strong late game units that I think are hard for anything not a player to counter, top marks has to go to the drone carrier which is a somewhat slow aircraft that just launches a lot of drones that just shred faces, I've found few situations that 3 of those can't resolve. Looking forward to starting the Dynasty campaign.
