Did you play Darktide? The bolter feels pretty powerful there, just going though anything that doesn't have heavy armor.

Not played Darktide: I think I kept confusing it for the WHF game Vermintide. Personally, I expect I'll get the most 'on paper' Bolter experience from Boltgun since that's what the entire game appears to be built around.

I think that Darktide is much closer to the cannon bolter. It tends to shoot through any most enemies and less then a clip will take down most big enemies unless they are chaos spawn or something like that. Its balanced by being hard to control and not having many extra mags and just being unwieldy for a human to carry.
I mean keep playing and you'll run into the opposite problem where Argenta will just delete arch deamon and just about anything just from vaguely looking at them.
Also, not sure repeat playtrough are something you'll do a lot of, with no DLC a full playtrough came out at 102 hours.
Well this first play through may just come to a grinding halt because I've been hornswoggled by the fact that old school and old school influenced cRPGs do not in fact have full voice acting. So after the prologue with some really great back and forth and well chosen voices I suddenly found myself playing something from 1995 with a visual glow up because its all text based. And I'm sorry, labyrinthine dialogue trees in place of voice acting is not my bag baby. I genuinely had to go and check reddit and the steam forums to make sure I hadn't had a bug. I'm glad I didn't pay full price, `cos okay maybe I'm a spacker and a normie, but I know what I like and utterly do NOT like pure text reading in a game of this type.
Doesn't bother me cause I usually skip dialogue anyway cause its faster to read, but yeah most of the content is not voice acted (caused there's so much of it).
I get that, its a genre convention but I really do abhor silence in a game like this. Don't ask me why, because I don't know. I mean I played too long to get my money back and its not like the game is defective or anything - beyond normal cRPG jank bullshit but that's almost part of the genre's charm - and its really well put together and well made. So you know, Owlcat made a good game. Just not a good game for me, which is not their fault or their problem.
I go back and forth depending on the weapon I'm using. Probably the skull is where I blend the most (aside from doing the Blood Triad, that feels like it shouldn't count on this point), the rest of the time I have a definite preference toward one or the other. Ax is all omega all the time, but the punchbot just feels more fun punching non-stop, etc.
If only everyone had that mindset when playing a game that wasn't made for them. I respect it.
Look I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed that I can't get my $40 back, but sometimes that how it goes. Takes your luck, takes your chances.
Oh, for sure, I get it. I meant more "This game is not for me" rather than "This game sucks, and anyone who enjoys it is wrong" as a mindset.

Its not really convention, I'm sure they'd love to have full VA, but it would cost an insane amount for a small studio.
If you like a calming game with a chill, contemplative soundtrack then it’ll probably hit. Just have to understand it’s basically a roided out walking sim.
It's not so much a 'walking simulator' as a walking 'simulator', like a driving simulator but for walking. That doesn't vibe with everybody, but it's not inherently poorly designed or implemented IMO.
Absolum - Took me 8 runs total, but I finallly defeated the Undead/Lich King. One of the four major bosses. I got the frog guy as the final playable character. I also unlocked another NPC who goes back to the home base. I love how this games has hidden areas, and interactions that expand the lore. Cider his hands down, my favorite character. She's got multi hitting combos for days.I died in the training ground area after the swamp, so it's back to the beginning again, but I am so much stronger now. 16K+ is my best score run right now.
Finally managed to recruit Poo in Earthbound. The path from here splits a little bit, though you can progress them as you see fit until they eventually converge. The most common thing I've noticed is to pursue the fifth and sixth Sanctuaries as soon as they become available; the alternative is to go to Scaraba, through the Pyramid and Deep Darkness. The fifth Sanctuary dungeon is fairly difficult to do right away, but the extra levels help a lot in Deep Darkness especially; as a rule, though, I tend to do the Kraken to reach Scaraba's shops, then go back to the Sanctuaries before continuing to the Pyramid.
Poo's one of the more unique party members in an RPG of the time. He can't use most healing items or equip nearly weapons or armor; in exchange, he can restore PP (mana) more easily than anyone else, letting him cast damaging and healing spells near-endlessly, and the items he can equip are (mostly) very powerful and worth getting. He can be a bit difficult to work with, but he can also perform feats that the others have trouble matching.
I honestly kinda prefer systems like Earthbound where each of the party members are strongly different from each other, but you don't have to try and swap them back and forth to guess what might be the most effective against what's coming up because you just stick with them the whole time. RPGs with a lot of customization tend to throw me for a loop, especially when characters are so customizable they're basically interchangeable (see: FF7, FF8).

Guardians of the Galaxy
Just saw a video about this being the best game nobody played or even heard of. $200 million budget so I loaded it up on my Xbox 1X. On a 65" 4K QNED, it looked very washed out. Lucky I decided to play it (Xbox, play anywhere) on my PC. Dang thing said my card is too old and was initially on min. settings!!! Its a 6750 xt! Put it on ultra except for the 4K. 1080P looks fine and plays better and it is much better looking on my PC monitor.
And, pretty fun until a level (and I'm early in the game!) that fills the room with a ton of bullet sponges. I used "Wand" and made my enemies "one shot kills". Much better.

I did a playthrough of Guardians a few months ago and yeah its pretty dang good. Really my main issue with it is that the game is afraid of having its characters shut up and while the licensed music it has is good, its not really used very well, even when you do the team attack thing, the music is just kind of there. But otherwise, good gameplay, fun story, more meat then expected.
Yeah, that's about what I'm into nowadays: games that don't demand much but offer a lot to experience. I started RDR2, and I will continue it someday soon, but it throws so much at you in the way of mechanics and menus, it feels like a bit TOO much for me right now. The vibe outside of the story missions is exactly what I'm looking for, though.
Anyway, played maybe the first 20 minutes of Death Stranding yesterday, and what the fuck? I'm the guy who sided with Microsoft in the Second Great Console War, so my exposure to Hideo Kojima has been limited, though I've heard tell of his "unique" approach to games, but I wasn't expecting this. Literally in the first few minutes: rain that accelerates time and ages of whoever it touches, invisible creatures roaming the land, a "disease" called DOOMS, oh, and a baby in perhaps its third trimester (but clearly cognizant and aware) is being carried around in a wearable tank. What the fuck, dude? And that's not a complaint; I like weird shit, and so far, this shit is weird. Will play more today.
