And now have had a clear with each class. Not sure what I'll get out of it, though, as the unlock is not ready at this point it seems.

I decided to do a NG+ on Modern difficulty, and regardless of what you pick, Leon's storage box/shop unlocks from the start and you automatically can pick up credits at his very first section. Meaning you can buy his powerful weapons early enough, if you're skilled or killed lots of zombies.

You didn't unlock ascendency?

Oh, yeah, you unlock Ascension with each class. But there's nothing unlocked yet for doing so with all classes.
Hmm, wonder if that is intended or just not there.

I've been nibbling at my list of shame, for now focusing on all the free games I got from the Epic Games Store. I went ahead and played Dredge, though I've already seen others go through it; the story isn't anything I'd call revolutionary by any measure, but the fishing gameplay (including the Fish Tetris inventory management) is enjoyable enough. Thing is, though, that eventually going to the trouble of fishing just for its own sake is actively detrimental; you'll run out of things to spend the money on, and since being out on the water at night is dangerous, you're incentivized to spend your time looking for very specific fish or items for various tasks you're given.

Still, until you hit that point, finding resources to upgrade your boat and get access to better tools is pretty fun, and each upgrade feels like it makes a difference.

I am loving the NG+Run in Resident Evil Requiem. The upgrades reset, but you can access the Storage Box right at the start, can get Leon's more powerful weapons early, if you're good enough, find the credit tags lying around in the hospital, or kill lots of monsters. Having the military assault shotgun early makes early encounters mostly even easier.

Did anyone here love Disco Elysium?

There's a new game called Esoteric Ebb. It's a D&D version of Disco. Your mind is split DE, but this time it's separated into the D&D attributes. You have arguments with your attributes over whether you bully, trick or persuade people. You start with a Mind Control spell but if you use it, everyone will start closing off to you as they hate what you are doing. Failure is not necessarily a bad thing, and can be generally funny instead. You can read books that you can use later to win arguments instead of relying on dice rolls. The different factions in the city are far more active than in Disco.

I'm not going to explain too much about the plot or universe. If you are interested in this style of game, check it out... but you probably want to explore for yourself. So I won't ruin it anymore here. Nor am I finished it. They did build their own universe using 5E rules, and you don't really have a party. You can get a sidekick, and that's about it. So that might not be to your liking. Otherwise, it's excellent

What can I say ? It is surprisingly fun. It does nothing particularly new, but it is competent enough in its execution. Also nostalgia factor.

I forget what they're called specifically, skill points or otherwise some crucial upgrade material, but I lost some enthusiasm for the game once I discovered the shops basically sell an unlimited number.

I do wish the game would give you a reason to brave the sea at night. There're a few species that only roam around during nighttime but otherwise it's a mechanic that is designed around being entirely avoided.

It is a great little game up until you break the system though.

Pokemon Fire Red.

I am well aware Heart Gold/Soul Silver is generally considered a superior remake. And for the most part, I wholeheartly agree.

But there is something about FRLG that draws me closer; Maybe it's because it's one of the first games that I've owned on my GBA, or maybe it's a remake of Gen 1 that adds many QoL improvements such as UI, inventory management, and post-game content?

And for what I believe is their first attempt at a remake, Game Freak really nailed this one.

The Research Parts? Yeah, and they aren't even all that expensive. And the funny thing is that you can easily do everything you need without unlocking like a third of the upgraded equipment (most of the crab pots, many of the fishing lines), as they're centered around making money faster, and if you know what you're doing, money becomes trivial quickly. It was upgrading the boat itself that was fiddly, with having to find specific materials- and even the rare forged iron was purchasable, so that by the time I had the ability to blast rock formations and get to where it spawned naturally, I didn't need to.

Beat the ED-209 part in Robocop Unfinished Business. Not really a spoiler since they show it in the trailer. But it was pretty neat, even though the bad guys are seriously suicidal to line up and try just shooing it. Then again they have been doing that to Robocop also. Those mercs are really dedicated, despite not being paid. I suppose mercenaries are notorious for not being in it for the money. >.>

Finished up Spider-Man 2 over the weekend.

All in all a pretty entertaining game, fun characters and an interesting story ( except for Miles' place in it, he was there and helped out equally, but for the life of me I can't remember what his journey was, the major story beats were all Peter ). I enjoyed playing as both, having either of them jumping in when you're fighting random crime was pretty neat. Traversal through swinging or gliding was nice, the fast travel is just bonkers.

The thing I didn't quite enjoy was the combat. It got stale fast and by the end of the game I was dreading fighting the same group of enemies over and over again. Maybe I missed something, but it just wasn't very satisfying. You'd be fighting with one enemy and then you'd always get shot at from far away, forcing you to dodge and disangage from your current target.

Returnal.

I am about 3 hours in, and have beaten the first area boss.

I am usually not the biggest fan of rouglike games, but Returnal seems to address every issue I have with this genre:
  • The game gives generous amout of resources, buffs, upgrades, and ESPECIALLY health. Having low-hp, crossing my fingers for some sort of HP recovery materials has made me hate every run of any rougelike games I've ever played. But this game seems to have health pick-ups in 90% of the rooms I enter. They aren't rewards for clearing the rooms either; Just sitting there waiting for me to pick them up during combat, or if I need them at any point
  • I can actually go back to previous rooms, instead of having the doors close behind me. There are teleporters everywhere that saves travel time.
  • I don't have to kill area bosses on every run. I mean I enjoyed Hades, but fighting the area bosses have been a terrible experience. In Returnal, all you have to do is kill the boss once, get their keys, and simply go to the next area
  • There are lots of landmark rooms, which gives me clear signs that I am making progress. Unlike other games in the genre that feature similar-looking rooms, making me wonder where is the next part of the game.
  • Each encounter gives me plenty of space for me to reposition and catch a breath for me to strategize the next move.

Those are the ones, yeah! They should've limited them and made them into rare finds. It's a shame when a trivial economy sort of breaks a good game halfway through.
