Not really feeling RE3. Maybe I'll come back for it later, but at the moment I just don't feel like playing it. I barely remember anything from my first playthrough of it other than generally not being a fan, and I have even more reasons to dislike it on the replay, a lot of which are related to the game's random elements. How many herbs and ammo you get and where you find them is randomly determined when you start a new game, along with some enemy placements and whether you get the grenade launcher or the magnum first. Not enough's changed to add significant replay value, but expecting to see regular zombies and getting dogs (or vice-versa) makes planning a route next to impossible, when planning a route through repeated playthroughs to beat the game more efficiently is the whole point of Resident Evil's replay value in the first two games.

Not to mention, though I felt this way last time too: enemies are a lot faster and deal more damage because you're expected to use the new dodge to avoid them, but the dodge is on a weird button, there isn't a lot of feedback to help you get the timing right, and the lack of I-frames can lead to you getting a dodge but getting hit anyway. Regular zombies in particular, I find it basically impossible to figure out the timing on dodging them.

As for the big guy himself, it's usually possible to just run away from him in a 'straight' line to the next door without even worrying about his presence. Once you realize that, it takes a lot of the sting out of encounters with him beyond the initial jumpscare from a slamming door or breaking window.

I'm not saying anyone's wrong to like RE3, but I would never rank it anywhere near being my favorite of the series. I'll play something else for a while and see if I feel like finishing it after that, or maybe I'll just skip it and do another run of 4. At least 4's actually designed around its random elements due to having a different core philosophy than the trilogy.

Praise the Warding spell, which helped me through my first playthrough in the original even as a basic knight.

Think I might be done with Haunted Lands. Its a really cool game, but damn the difficulty is high, but not in a fun way, in a more "Fuck, I died and have to redo most of this stage again" way. Not to mention the two wolfs inside me, one fighting for just beating the levels, and the other wanting to get all secrets and treasure. Despite the fact that unless you collect the target challenge amount it doesn't matter, aside from silver which you use to buy stuff at the store.

I mean, I want to play more and get further but everytime I think about starting it I'm just like.... ugh, lets play something else.

So, I've been playing more Blood Refreshed Supply. They just had the Death Wish mod campaign come out. I beat the first episode and it was pretty cool, started on the second episode and I forgot how awesome it was. I'm 4 or 5 stages into it and damn its good. It starts off with a totally awesome stage where you start out on a personal hover craft, using it to get up to a cultist convoy while they shoot fireballs at you and eventually blow up your craft, but its too late, your on. Then you go between vehicles blowing bits of them before getting to the final vehicle and destroying the convoy. Then the next stage starts out the with convoy wreckage then goes to a cultist rocket base. You capture their rocket and fly it to the Monstroso (alien parody) stage, that is so damn well done it actually makes Blood creepy, which is hard to do when its got the napalm launcher and one of the best shotguns in gaming. After destroying the space ship I escaped to a secret level which is totally Hallys Hope from Aliens.

Good times.

Playing Nine Souls Sols.

I tried it back when it first released, but couldn't really get into it. So I decided to give it another go, and I'm liking it better now. Some stuff feels not as well explained as I think it should be though. For a while I didn't really know what internal damage was, till I looked it up online. And I still can't figure out what the point in having multiple pips for your magic/digital scroll attack is, since you seem to use them all anyway when you R1. If you can dole them out individually then the game hasn't told me how to do that.

I did another round of Rushing Beat X. This time on Free Mode, Hard Difficulty. I chose Kazhan. Well started as Kahlua for the first two stages, but she is way too weak in terms of power and health. She and Kazhan are both fragile speedster, but he can still take way more hits than her. Wendy can take more hits than here, but she's meant be somewhere between and Jack of All Trade/Light Glacier. Back to Kazhan, he does make this game the most fun, because of his infinite air juggles and cance-able moves that turns RBX into a DMC game. It was really fun experimenting with moves and everything. Hard Mode is much more balanced, and I rather play it than Shura Mode. Most bosses I was able to beat with no problem, but certain enemy types like the ghetto looking Weskers and robots get way over powered, or become a nightmare to fight in smaller arenas with other mooks.

I am going to try to experiment more with canceable moves with some of the other character. The game does have sauce, but I feel not enough people are going to experiment with the combat. I have no idea why they didn't bother with a training move. Every brawler has one at this point and should be mandatory. The tutorial is nice, but people turn that off after their first run.

Rushing Beat X - I did some more playing around, and other characters don't have infinite's like Kazan does. They got air juggle cancels, but there's are much more limited by comparison, and looks like Kazan's are a possible oversight. These characters are still fun. Wendy can still do some cool moves in the air, and I actually find her more fun than the new comer, Kahlua.

I talked with another person on a different place about this game, and they did not like it, and they were sorta going over dramatic about the game and how it's the "worst game in the franchise/worst modern brawler right now". Neither which is true, and I feel somewhat disingenuous. They're entitled to their opinion, but I feel like they were expecting this game to go beyond their expectations or something. I knew the game was going to be fun, and it is, but it wasn't never going to be better than Streets of Rage 4, The TakeOver, nor Shredder's Revenge. The Rushing Beat franchise, as always been between mediocre at the start and average or good depending on the people playing these games. Good as a 7/10, and X fits into that mold. Most people reviewing are giving this game a 6-7/10, with a couple of 5s here, and that's actually fair. CC are still patching the game, but it's not a broken mess and this franchise is known for jank, aside from maybe Shura.

The person disliked the game so much, he didn't want to go back and play the SNES games after hyping them up and claiming how they all have charm, but not X. They were still respectful and said if anyone enjoys the game, and it is fine with them. Which is heartwarming in itself, but I have feeling they just came to grips with the fact that this franchise has been fairly average overall.

I still stand by my 6 rating, but I am glad the game is a decent time and I consider it the best in the franchise, because the combat is so fun and addicting. It's much harder for me to go back to the SNES trilogy, because of this, but I am mainly referring to the first game.

It seems like you have unlimited continues in this game, no matter what difficulty mode you are playing. An odd design choice, but I get why since they're going for more casual audience, but I felt they could have done that better without giving their audience the easiest way out possible. Or not ignore players who want more of a challenge without self-imposing themselves.

My playthrough of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night hit a bit of a stall at the Steam Spring sale. I picked up Pacific Drive on sale, and haven't been playing much else since. So far, I'm really enjoying it. In fact, I have no notes so far.
I forgot about PD but if it’s on sale I might just pick it up. Also, this one looks interesting and the ratings are encouraging-

Seems like I'm almost done with Ape Escape.

It's unique. The expectation of the right stick controlling the camera wasn't yet established in 1999.

-It controls the direction of attacks with the laser sword and time net (that the monkeys are captured with). Rotate for spin attacks.
-Row boats by rotating both sticks.
-Drive an RC car to activate switches and scare the monkeys out of their hiding spots, while walking on with the left stick.
-Fly up a short distance and drift to the bottom of the space by rotating the right stick.
-Rotate while wearing the hula hoop to dash.

The monkeys do human things, like boxing and building sand castles, before noticing you. Unlike in Metal Gear Solid 3, they start defending themselves with machine guns, flying saucers and other tools in later levels.

Good number of varied levels. One frustration is being pulled out of the level as soon as I have captured the minimum number of monkeys. I know the game is gonna let me go back and get the rest after the ending, but there's really no reason to make the player go through levels twice except to get monkeys that needed later tools.

Oh, it also makes you hold the stick button to dive underwater and simultaneously tilt that stick in order to dive in a specific direction, which is of course uncomfortable.

Do the sequels live up to it? Did people just not like them as much because it was more of the same? Stagnation? Or was the formula tarnished?

Brace yourself, the final boss is probably the hardest thing I ever fought in a metroidvania.
Is it the final boss, or is it the 'you have to look up online how to even get to the final boss' final boss, like in Hollow Knight and Silk Song? Because I only ever cleared the default endings for the those games due to finding all that super secret REAL ending stuff a bit of a mood killer.

The novelty of it was using the analogue stick, but once every game used those, it kinda disappeared.

You'll get to a point near the endgame where you answer a no-brainer question and that picks which ending you get and whether the final boss has an extra phase or not. (You get sent back to that point after finishing either way). I think there may have been some set up to it like maxing out your health or picking up a key item but don't remember going out of my way to get it. There's nothing quite as cryptic or roundabout as HK.

Although honestly both versions of the final boss are hardest and second hardest for me.

I'm playing Warhammer 40K Mechanicus

Its a fun little turn-based tactics game, where you play as the Adeptus Mechanicus, versus the Necrons on their home turf.

I'm about half way through, and its been enjoyable, but I think I am ready to be done with it.

I'm playing on Hard, and whilst the early game was a challenge, the later game becomes a bit of a cakewalk when you disover the power of the flamer that shoots in an arc. And I feel like I am only going to find even more ways to get more powerful.

Honorable mention to the music though:

With Saros coming out, I've decided to give Returnal another shot. It is high on the list of games that look great but are roguelikes and therefore frustrating. However this time I will try to suppress my need to finish games and make "progress," and rather just enjoy the gameplay for itself and not care too much the larger game.

I'll be going between Demons Souls magic run and Returnal until something else interesting comes along.

My Demons Souls character is called Yen, had pale skin, dark hair and purple eyes, and castes magic as a first resort, in honor of my favorite character from the Witcher.

If you take too long it will actually start getting tricky again, but its easy to win before that happens and even when you start meeting the necrons that can actually be dangerous, you will probably be too powerful for them.

I finally beat season 3 of Vindictus. I played it for like 4-6 hours straight doing the 'tutorial', and got to level 115 with Calia.

I used to suck at this game, but now I know I just need a parry character.
