Battlezone 1998
Brilliant fps/rts until the furies, still have trouble believing that so many people don't know what it is.

Also Alien Swarm, to an extent.

There is No One Lives Forever, 1 and 2. It is amazing.
The Specialists, a great matrix-like half-life 1 mod.
TSRP - the roleplay scene of TS, that is dying.
Modular Combat, a half-life 2 mod thats hl2dm with skills, basically.
Fistful of Frags - a hl2 western mod.
Cortex Command, an awesome indie game that is amazing.
Gunmen Chronicles, a hl1 engine based game with fully customizable guns.
By that I mean you can decide if you want your shotgun to shoot 4 shells at high spread, or your pistol to shoot blasts of plasma instead of lasers!

No one has seen or heard of at least half of these, and they are all some of the best games i've played!
You should play them too!

GTA San Andreas is a perfect example of how story telling can be done in a video game. It was fucking amazing but nobody I know gets it when I try to explain it

Are you talking about IRL? Because then it would be anything Japanese. All the people I know are FPS/action game fans.

In general I have never found somebody else that likes Mirror's Edge, Far Cry 2, FF13, Persona 4, Bayonetta and the Sly Cooper series.

Seriously. Sly 2 is the greatest game of all time IMO... And literally nobody has even heard of it.
Sly 2 was my least favourite of the Sly series, oddly. But I agree that the series is of normally high quality.

I count Sly 3 as a superior sequel. It is a lot more refined.

I mean, most people are fans of the Kingdom Hearts series, but I've never found someone that gushes about them as much as I do, and mention it whenever one of those "your favourite game" threads pop up. In real life most people dismiss it as a children's Disney game, but it's the best game series I've ever played. Ever.
Same here. I don't mention it that much to most others because I'm afraid that they'll think I'm strange or something. That, and trying to give an overview of the series to them would be time consuming.

Most of them just don't know it, but yes, some of them think that they are "gay."

It's a terrible world we live in.

My current obsession is Wakfu, what is a lot like a final fantasy tactics mmo. I love the game but the North American sever has less users then their were students at my high school. I hear its big enough in France were it originates that I don't have to worry about it shutting down at least.

Pikmin 1 and 2. Love the games to death, and would consider them my favorite games ever, but never met another person in real life who's heard of them, let alone play them.

Clock Tower for the PSX.
The voice acting & dialogue is atrocious, and the plot has that dumb charm that accompanies 80's slasher flicks, but it was freaking awesome.
You know that style of survival horror that games like Amnesia are often lauded for, where you can't fight and can only hide and pray that your enemy doesn't get wise and rip the door off of your warderobe of choice, leaving you helpless? Clock Tower was doing that in the PSX era (SNES era as well if you go a bit further back). It was a gem lost amidst a sea of Resident Evil clones on the PSX, despite having nothing in common with it (besides the god-awful voice acting). Another thing is that while encounters with Scissorman could be triggered by the player's actions, they could occur at any time. Thus, even the menial item hunting with no sound save for your hero/heroine's footsteps became extremely tense and creepy, because you knew that at any moment, the sound of clashing shears would be heard just outside the room, and you'd suddenly be running for your life.
While a lot of people think Scissorman is kind of goofy nowadays (and to some extent, he is), I think that he's actually benefeited from his age; his jagged, twitchy limping has become much more disturbing and inhuman in this age of smooth, beautiful animation. That, along with his remarkable tenacity, adrenaline pumping theme music, and the aura of pure menace that accompanies him wherever he goes makes him one of my favorite villains.

Okami. One of my favorite games of all time, and no one I talk to has even heard of it. Makes me slightly sad to know what they're missing out on.
I got to say, my friend and I spent numerous hours per day chipping at that game for a month and we still never managed to beat it.

For me, it's the Way of the Samurai series. Something about that game made it really difficult to be distributed in America, but man, let me tell you. I gush over this game every chance I get. The game can be beaten in literally 10 minutes, but the way it is narrated just makes me love it.

I've only got one close friend who's played Mass Effect, and even then he's only played 2 and 3, and seemed much more invested in the gameplay than in the characters and story.
Me, I basically played that trilogy almost exclusively for the compelling characters and the engaging story, so I'd love it if I knew more people (personally) that shared my enthusiasm for those areas of the trilogy.

well i wont point out a single game but i want to say that most of my friends think other than call of duty, need for speed and counter strike, no other games exists in this world. so its futile to discuss any other game with them. they dont even fucking know what an rpg game is. sucks to have friends like that

For me it's God Hand. I played the hell out of that game and still fire it up occasionally, but hardly anyone I know has even heard of it much less played it.

Pretty much the only thing I didn't like about 3 was that there was way too many playable characters... That pirate level was amazing.

OT: Ooh I just remembered another one... It's called Knytt. The only other person that talked about that game was Yahtzee, oddly enough.

It's a combination of Nier and Final Fantasy X-2, with the former being a relative unknown in most gaming circles and the latter being the target of a great deal of undue discontent because it presents itself in a manner that isn't laughably melancholy or melodramatic. Well... it does, but you have to work for it.

Every single Warhammer 40k game. I haven't found anyone in real life who's even played it.
I'm a big 40k fan and played the hell out of space marine, i loved exterminatus on multiplayer but it was so frustrating trying to beat the last few waves. however I did manage it once after I joined a game with some players that worked really hard as a team.

the game I praise the most right now is the walking dead, I've never played a game that made me so excited to play.
sadly I have to wait for series 2 :(

The Extreme G series. A futuristic bike racing series that was fucking amazing. It was fast, it was fun, it was pure adrenaline. From the first all the way up to the 4th. Each sequel actually improved things.

Battletanx. A virus has wiped out 90% of all women on earth, and various cities have been nuked to stop it. As a result, various gangs of mutants and soldiers and people who just want to get their wives back have built battle tanks out of scrap metal so they can battle to the death and also take their women back. This game had lasers, swarm missiles, teleporters, ricocheting bolts, and even god damn nukes. This is the only game which has had full sized city destroying every person on the map damaging nukes. These aren't mini-nukes or half size nukes. I'm talking full size nukes. Fallout 3 had one nuke, this has them as a side weapon that you can pick up on any stage if you look hard enough. I have seen no other game that lets you use full sized nukes as a weapon. At least, not any deathmatch shooter games.

Oh, and before anyone tells me "Well blah blah blah mods", Battletanx doesn't need mods for that. It has nukes in the game without any need for modding.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 and Gotham city Impostors.

Test drive is just such a clean game which was overlooked

And for reasons I don't understand I have very few friends (2) that play GCI

Cargo! The Quest for Gravity is the only reasonable choice. I still haven't been able to convince anyone to pick it up, because the English language doesn't have words for what the game is.

It's a crazy Russian post-apocalyptic brightly-coloured fever dream with vehicle-building.
*plays demo*

...Well I can certainly see why someone would gush over something like this!
I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Of course, I can say that same thing about 90% of Cargo! in general.

While most people are aware of the Myst franchise, and many have played the first two, I can't seem to find very many other "fans" of them, and absolutely no one else who has read the books. And outside of people on the actual servers, I can't find any "Myst Online" fans.
I've read the books and played the games including Uru Online(which is now completely free to play with no micro transactions and includes all the expansion content). I think the reason a lot of people skip the games is because while the plot, mythos, and lore are very in depth and interesting you have to go find it in the games and it isn't shoved in your face.
The Myst series is one of the few things I will genuinely fanboy over, and attempt to blindly accept their flaws (Myst III's retcons - hey, their explanation behind it made sense to me!) Though I don't have the books anymore, and I haven't gotten the comics yet.

Chalk another person agreeing with Persona. Why, in the name of god, can't I find people who've played this game in real life?! I also can't really find any Realm of the Mad God, Dwarf Fortress, Nethack, and I Wanna Be The Guy players in real life. I did help spread the love for Dark Souls, so that's an achievement of mine that helped spread the news of such a good game.
That's because we don't have time to go outside and meet other people, naturally.
