What are your thoughts on 4chan?

I've only got hearsay and the odd snippet of threads where the words '******' and 'autism' or some variation thereof seem to be sandwiched between every other sentence, but pretty much every reference I've seen made to the site has been universally negative; the words 4chan in and of themselves seem to serve as an adequate punchline for many people. So yeah, it hasn't exactly left a good impression on me, I've never posted there and as things stand I have absolutely no desire to. Also, the layout is incredibly ugly. Bleh.

I enjoy it. I browse /b/, /v/ quite a lot and would consider myself a regular poster. /b/ really is the asshole of the internet but I find you can have some of the most honest conversations in that place. They don't sugar coat things, they tell it how it is. But a lot of the posters are just trolls talking out of their ass so it's rare to find quality threads.

Definitely don't recommend /b/ if you can't deal with porn 90% of the time and vulgarity. Basically if you get offended easily. /v/ is alright though they can be a bit elitist at times.

4chan is fine as long as you stay away from /b/. Sure there are some idiots, but there are everywhere on the internet and I've seen much worse. I only really go on /mu/ though.

Hm. That's a tough one.

I would say it's the internet in its most distilled form, which is both good and bad: on one hand, it's a funny place, if you can tolerate all of the shocking, disgusting things and all the hate. On the other, it's full of shocking, disgusting things and hate. However, a large amount of what makes the internet great originated on 4chan, and it can be a source of awesome things, such as all of the vigilantism that's occurred, though for every good act they do, there is one bad one that was done "for the lulz" or something.

People here know the site is comprised of more than just /b/ right?

I go there occasionally for the wallpaper threads, and the music thread here and there, as well as the games section.
4chan was how I found out about a cute little browser based building game years back known as Minecraft.

I can appreciate how they are no were near as easily offended. And how calling someone out on it won't bring down mod wrath.

I go on /k/ all the time and a bit on /int/. You have to remember that /b/ is not all of 4 chan.

That is one of the things I like about it, the fact that 4chan is so big and so fast that most of the time it is the one that starts big phenomenons or memes, you get to be their for the start of something big.

Like everything, it has it's ups and downs. Usually im on /fa/ and browsing /b/ for interesting topics, such as the recent "Oblivion Guard Raid" they did on facebook Where users all made an account called "Imperial Guard" and would bomb fan pages of say, Justin Bieber, with quotes from Oblivion.

and /fa/ because well.... being gay and working in retail, it helps.

It's the worst and the best and I love it. If you get past the shitposting, it really is a place you can enjoy. Plus anonymity and the lack of an up/down vote system promotes actual discussion without worrying about being censored for having a different opinion.

I frequent /v/, /g/, /r9k/, /mlp/ and occasionally a whole slew of other boards.

Below is one of the funnier recent posts I've seen,

Also, does anyone know what happened to that project where /mlp/ tried to create a micronation on some tiny island in Vermont?

It's a terrible, stupid place and I love it with all my heart.

I visit /tv/ frequently and hop around boards all the time.

As a strong believer in the concept of everything having a purpose and place SOMEWHERE on the internet, I feel 4chan is integral to the balance of things.
If you can speak the language, it's a great place to banter. /d/ is also very, VERY enjoyable. Because /d/.

I find it awful, immature and stupid. Any place with pony porn is awful.
Well, you'll be happy to learn that it's banned on every part of the site now as of last month.
Oh because THAT'S going to hold up.

Unless they're starting range bans, pony porn will NEVER be gone. At least, I certainly hope not.

It's a nice place, a place where you are still allowed to call bullshit and won't get banned for calling someone a troll.

I like the anarchy of it and the anonymity. And I like that it's a hated and feared place

/x can be very entertaining, I like spooky stories, legit or not. Apparently it used to be a lot better, though. Everyone talks about the "glory days of 4chan"...kind of like when people talk about "the old Escapist" or the first gen of Pokemon.

I never feel the need to post, though.

Excluding the Escapist news articles, I find 4chan better than the escapist. Nobody gives a fuck about sounding smart or being elitist over there and there aren't any trigger happy mods waiting to nab people for 'low content posts'. Whenever I get disgusted by the mods over on this site I go to 4chan and bathe in the glorious unrestricted freedom of that site.

I go on /b/, /g/, and /k/.

I've been there, and most of it wasn't all that great. /u/ is pretty awesome though, hehe.
Sometimes I've seen some hilarious stuff from 4chan, but it's always been in the form of screenshots uploaded to other websites. Much safer.

The people there are immature, selfish, and harbour every type of negative ism in the world.
In other words, in most regards 4chan is interchangeable with Reddit. Except 4chan's denizens know they're trash and rarely pretend otherwise.

I'm a (trashy) 4channer. I frequent /tg/, /fit/, /d/ and /vg/. It's a good place. A place that ought to exist.

Basking in the unpleasantness of people, when it's as open and embracing of its own vulgarity as 4chan is, is good catharsis. The honest hatred, the honest intolerance-- even the honest goodness of cool people comes without the sort of social-norms filtration that makes me feel like we're all pining for the polite, ordered, false glee of the 1950's as seen in Fallout flashbacks over here.

Communication there is either functional or it's outrageous, and that's brilliant. It's always entertaining to me. I enjoy 4chan.

It's unmoderated, hilarious and great fun. You can actually have a proper debate there would you believe? I shit you not, you can actually type things no one agrees with and you won't get banned. It's far more rewarding than any other boards I post on.

Not really, though it's funny that a few years ago 4chan was the big bogeyman of this site and now it looks like most people post there. Most people don't look beyond /b/ or the fact that someone insulted them and they've got a bad case of the vapours because there's no place to report them. For instance, most people I talk to about 4chan don't realise that /tg/ exists; oddly enough one of the best Magic: The Gathering and pnprpg resources I've ever visited.

Incidentally is the Escapist still pretending it knows about Magic?

I think I might've been one of the few people not introduced to 4chan though /b/. I started on /co/ instead. Still frequent it, too. Truth be told, it's one of the site's safest boards. I mean it's still pretty cesspooly, (what with it's frequent Homestuck generals), but otherwise the win-o-threads, drawing threads, storytimes, superhero redesign threads, (and currently the Pacific Rim threads...the hype for that movie on /co/ is an unstoppable freight train of the hypest high) are pretty top notch.

Though, a huge Protip: Never go there when there's a new superhero movie out, they will spoil the fuck out of it before it even comes out in the states/australia.

Also, /v/. /v/. /v/, /v/, /v/. Forward slash. Forward slash.
(I go there quite a bit too. They're exaggerated opinions are hilarious.)
